Over The Edge

How can you completely forget that you're married? Or that you have a son? Well that's exactly what is happening to Seth Kincaid, the youngest of the Kincaid brothers who suddenly finds himself at the scene of a stagecoach robbery. Only Seth is the one being shot at. When more men arrive from Colorado City with the sheriff, the learn that the only occupant remaining in the stagecoach is a woman, named Callie who was defending the coach against the robbers who already shot both the driver and his partner.

When Seth finds out the woman in the coach is his long-forgotten wife Callie, he immediately picks up right where he left off, carrying for her injuries and learning he has a son, Connor that was rescued by the parson when he left to go find help during the robbery. Now Callie is hailed as a hero by the town for saving the lives of the men from the stage coach but she only wants answers to why Seth left her and never came back. But Seth has been having many lapses in memory and that is why he is living on the land provided to him by the remaining Kincaid brothers, Rafe and Ethan in his own cabin. This way they can watch over him but still allow him to live an independent life.
Only what will they say when they learn that Seth has a family that has come calling for him?

In the Kincaid Bride Series by Mary Connealy, Over The Edge is the third novel that digs deeper into the lives of each of the Kincaid brothers with this one detailing Seth's life a little more. The brothers lives and those of their families still remain at stake when a man is still looking for them, Henry Jasper Duff who he believes has his money that was stolen by Wendell Gilliland. Now Jasper has had to live on the run hiding with his wife Bea, from those that he owes a great deal of money to from his opium trades. No matter how much Bea tries to convince him to forget the money, Jasper is just bidding his time until he can corner the brothers and get back what he believes belongs to him.

I received Over The Edge compliments of Bethany House Publishers and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. Having read the previous two in this series, Out of Control and In Too Deep, I couldn't wait to read this one to get to know Seth Kincaid more. Having experiences PTSD from the Civil War, Seth at times has the mind of a much younger man who sees things in a much simpler format, being more spontaneous in his actions and a bit impulsive at times without thinking things through. He also suffers from horrible nightmares which Callie still remembers that border more on night terrors. I couldn't wait to see where the money has been hidden or if there is a stash of money since it has been the conflict that runs through the other two novels in the series and keeps the family's constantly looking over their shoulders for the next threat on their lives. I can easily rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and if you truly love a great Christian Western Romance with a touch of suspense added, then you will LOVE this series.

Cowgirl Trail

Maggie Porter has grown up on the Rocking P Ranch and has come to love everything there is to about ranching, from riding horses, roping and driving cattle. As a young girl at 13, she had developed a school girl crush for ranch-hand Alex Bright because he didn't treat her any different because she was the bosses daughter.

Now that she has returned to the Rocking P as an older women, she wonders if that same crush exists and she can't wait to see Alex again. When she arrives home on the ranch, she learns Alex has been promoted as foreman, but even though her heart continues to chase after Alex, she finds out that things on the ranch aren't running as smoothly as her father would like. Maggie returns home after a long stay from helping her ill mother at the sanatorium and later attending her funeral, she finds her father isn't his usual self. She believes he is taking her mother's grief harder than she expected and learns that he has relinquished most of the ranch's task to Alex instead of being there on hand to help.

Maggie learns from Alex that most of the men are considering striking against the Rocking P, since her father has taken back some of the benefits they used to have working for him, from herding their own cattle on the ranch, to basic help in maintaining the bunkhouses and they haven't had a pay raise in ten years. Things get worse when Leo, one of the ranch hands is injured and her father refuses to help. He tells Leo that his wife will have to take him to town to see a doctor because he can't spare any men. That leaves Leo's wife, Sela to have to manage with an infant and leave her three young boys in the care of Dolores, the housekeeper. But when her father learns of this, he dismisses the boys and Sela to town because he can't afford to help them manage their family affairs on the ranch.

This places Maggie and Alex in the middle as Alex attempts to keep the men working on the ranch at least til they finish the cattle drive and they can get paid, while Maggie tries in vain to find out what is going on with the change in her father. It goes against how he has managed the ranch up to this point and if they can't reach a compromise, the ranch will fail.

In the novel, Cowgirl Trail by Susan Page Davis, the reader is transported back to Brady, Texas during the late 1800's for a look at what it takes to manage and run a large cattle ranch and how people made a living back then, either running a ranch or helping to maintain it. I feel for Maggie Porter, because as a daughter she is stuck between her loyalty to her father and toward helping the men when she feels her father is out of line. Will she be able to help them all find a compromise or will the ranch be lost along with her dreams of falling in love with Alex?

I received Cowgirl Trail compliments of Moody Publishers and Net Galley for my honest review and being a huge fan of Christian Western Romances, I absolutely loved this one. Susan Page Davis creates a different type of conflict and the way she has Maggie attempt to handle this as the only child of the Rocking P is brilliant and virtually unheard of in most western fictional books but one that works well in this one. I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars and shows the strength that can be required of us when faced with challenging and difficult situations if we are willing to look to God for answers! This is book 5 in the Texas Trails series and one I've really enjoyed if you love westerns!!

Chasing the Wind

Ever wonder if certain things that happen randomly can be considered as signs from God? On October 12, 1977 at 8:47a.m, three very different individuals will soon be brought together in a very unexpected way when they all see the same thing but see different reasons behind that encounter with a flash of light.

Bingham Murdock flew into town on a star one day. At exactly 8:47am he banked the silver Lockheed JetStar at such an angle that the rays of the sun glanced off the wing and shot a glint of silver through the city of New Orleans. He'd never felt such kindred spirit with a city before. This was a town with open pockets and attitude. Amalise Catoir is a young lawyer with the firm of Mangen & Morris who has returned to her office on the sixteenth floor of the First Merchant Bank Building, after the recent death of her husband, Philip Sharp, who abused her during their marriage. As she stands at the window looking at the people below, it seems as if nothing had changed. It is only through the actions of her friend Jude, who she thinks she loves, that she has returned to work. As she took in the view, a quicksilver glint in the sky drew her attention. For a moment she tracked a small plane as it descended toward the Lakefront Airport, sunlight winking off a wing like a shooting star aimed straight for her. She wondered if she were the only person in the world who had just seen the momentary flash of light. In her office she shivered with the odd fancy that the flash somehow signified a fateful connection between the giver and the recipient of the light.

But someone else saw it, too. About a mile away, a small boy with delicate oriental features sat alone on the front porch of a sagging house in the Faubourg Marigny, watching the other children play. In the distance he saw a small plane shining in the sun. He watched it for an instant, shading his eyes with his hands squinting. Then a bright flash of light came at him like a burst of gunfire, and he flinched remembering.

Bingham Murdock, Amalise Catoir and a six-year-old Cambodian refugee in foster care are all brought together in what most would consider a random encounter much like the television series Touch shows how we are all connected through a string of random encounters that lead us to one another and impact our lives in profound ways. In the novel, Chasing the Wind, by Pamela Binnings Ewen, these three individuals will find out what God has in store for each of them and how that one encounter will change them in very different and similar spiritual ways through a flash of light.

I received Chasing the Wind compliments of B & H Publishing Group and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and found this story to have a profound impact on the so-called chance encounters we have with people we meet. Sometimes God places these people in our lives for reasons that may not seem clear to us at the time, but in looking back we can see how He uses them to bring about His purpose in our lives. I rate this novel a 5 out of 5 stars and look forward to many more novels from Pamela Billings Ewen in the future.

A Simple Autumn

The King family has had a rough time trying to raise a family in the Amish community. Their parents were murdered leaving a large family to find ways to work together. At first, like most Amish communities, whenever there is loss, they rally around and help one another, which they did at first. But over time as the oldest children Adam and Mary grew, they realized they could all work together as one to provide for one another. Adam the oldest son is being looked out through the eyes of the community because he has chosen an Englischer for his soon-to-be wife Remy McCallister. However Remy is a bit different because she wants to learn the Amish ways and works hard to become baptized in the church. Yet it doesn't stop people from whispering and judging them against the old Amish ways of the church.

For Annie Stoltzfus it is extremely difficult to come to terms with because her whole life, she dreamed of marrying Adam. Thinking she stood a great chance at becoming his wife, she never dreamed he would find love outside their community of believers and worse yet, bring her home to become part of the church. Annie now 20, wonders if she will ever find love or will she grow to become an old maid, raising the rest of her siblings and watching them leave and start family's of their own.

Jonah King loves Annie more than he ever thought possible only she doesn't seem to know he exists outside of being simply Adam's younger brother. Even though he spends as much time as he can helping her father out on the farm since needing additional help, he had hoped to find a way to let her know just how he felt. But it seems all Annie can notice is that her younger sister Hannah, would make a perfect wife for Jonah and spends all her time trying to play matchmaker. Will she ever learn just how close love is right in front of her?

In the novel, A Simple Autumn by Rosalind Lauer, we are drawn back to Lancaster County as two brothers in the King family try to find love as they battle their own personal feelings with conflicts with the women they love. For the younger brother, Gabe, he is spending his Rumspringa riding motorbikes until he feels called to the church. But when the local school teacher, Emma learns that he is doing things that go against the church, it may cost him the love of his life when Emma decides she isn't going to wait for Gabe to make a choice between her or his love of motorcycling riding? Either way it may just kill him if he isn't careful.

I received A Simple Autumn compliments of Random House Publishing Group and Net Galley for my honest review. Even though this title isn't available until the fall this year, I've been blessed with the opportunity to review it now and I can't wait for you to pick this one up for a great fall read while watching the colored leaves fall from the trees, to sit back on a crisp night and sit next to the fire for some great Christian romance! I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and just know if you're a fan of Amish Fiction, you'll definitely want to make a note to pick this one up or pre-order it now. While you're waiting, you can pick up A Simple Winter and A Simple Spring now, and get to know more about the people in Lancaster County.

Something Blue

Megan Weaver has a true heart for those in need. As the only daughter of Mennonite parents, she has had to define her own boundaries when it came to protecting her own heart. When their choices are narrowed down to just two men, Megan learns that both will be staying with them at her family home. What she doesn't realize is that one of the men, she knew from her time in Bible college, Joe Zimmerman, who she knew as Micah Zimmerman who was relentless in his pursuit of her affections. Now how will she ever be able to deal with this man living across the hall from her?

In the novel, Something Blue by Dianne Christner, Megan Weaver finds herself at a difficult intersection in her personal life. Faced with friends that have already found a man to marry, she finds herself with two likely candidates who couldn't be more different from one another. One is the man who relationship and standing with God is the one she promised herself she would willingly accept in a marriage, and the other one has not only claimed her attraction but it seems her heart as well for missionary work around the world as a pilot. When she decides to leave fate up to whatever God decides, she finds faced with two difficult situations; when a tornado threatens Megan's life and home, will the new pastor be able to save her? Or when a chance to finally go on a missionary flight to help out disaster victims in a nearby city as a fellow Mennonite, will Megan be able to keep her heart from taking flight as well?

I received Something Blue compliments of Barbour Publishing and author Dianne Christner for my honest review and LOVED it. This is the third book in the Plain City Bridemaids series and never having read the previous two, I found this can be read as a stand alone book as well. But trust me when I say, that once you begin this book, you will be hooked! Dianne has a way to engage her readers right from the beginning that you immediately feel a part of the story and have to keep reading just to see where it will end up! For that reason I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait to pick up the first two books in this series, Something Old and Something New!

Temptation

Chris Buckley has been struggling with a lot of issues since he and his mother moved to Solitary. That's just what seems to happen to when you move here. You find yourself a bit isolated from everyone else. It's hard enough trying to fit in and when you finally make friends, something happens so them. They move away. They disappear. Or they are murdered.

Chris attempts to come to terms with what has been happening in this town, and once again he finds he is alone. Aside from a small black dog named Midnight, Chris wrestles with the inner demons inside himself. Those that constantly blame him for things that have gone wrong. That as a sixteen-year-old boy he should have been able to put a stop to things in Solitary. But he's being watched. Every single thing he does, he's being watched. He still can't trust anyone in town and he's afraid more than ever to make friends. So when faced with dealing with spending the summer once again back in school at Harrington High, he tries to make the best of it by keeping to himself. With only a few other people in his summer school class and a teacher that wants to be anywhere but here, Chris finds himself digging a bit deeper into the darkness surrounding the town.

This time he attempts to confront Pastor Jeremiah Marsh who promises him anything his heart truly desires if he is willing to seek answers with him. It seems like Chris is the only one centered around the dark happenings in this strange town where secret buried tunnels beneath the town and people who can't die have something to hide. Will Chris face his greatest temptation in facing the darkness head on or will he become part of what the town is trying to hide?

In the third book in the Solitary Tales series by Travis Thrasher, Temptation looks at what happens when I believe you're pushed to the end of your proverbial rope and sanity at the same time. You begin to question what is real and what isn't. What is worth a risk and what isn't and it's at this stage that Chris is finally facing his darkest fears and those that seem to have the answers he seeks. But once again, those that move in to become his allies, are they just playing him for their own purposes or do they truly have good intentions at helping Chris finally get to the bottom of the darkness and evil that thrives in the town of Solitary?

I received Temptation by Travis Thrasher compliments of David C. Cook Publishers and Net Galley for my honest review and have to say, when you pick up anything by Travis Thrasher you are instantly hooked in the world he creates for his readers. It borders on the darkest places in our minds and show the reader just where the true spiritual battles are fought, in our minds! I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and now, can't wait for book 4 due out next year. For those of you who have never read a book by Travis Thrasher, think Stephen King, but with a Christian twist you don't see coming!!

Gravestone

Chris Buckley is looking for answers but it seems like he doesn't know quite whom he can trust anymore. The one person who meant the world to him has been murdered and his mom seems to be in a perpetual drunken state all the time. Now that he finds himself back in high school again, he reaches out to the only three friends he had left, but he can't find Rachel. She doesn't seem to be in school any longer and Poe, refuses to acknowledge him except for angry outbursts. Relying on the only friend left, he meets with Newt over lunch. But all Newt will say to him is that lunch is the place for eating only.

In the chilling sequel to Solitary by Travis Thrasher, the reader is brought back with the aftermath of what happened in the deep dark forest with Jocelyn and the cult that murdered her. There appears to be something happening in this Zombie-like town but Chris isn't sure who he can trust any longer. When an encounter with a man who claims he is Chris's cousin Jared who is searching for his father Robert who has gone missing, he isn't sure what is real any longer. Is Jared someone he can truly trust. He tells him that his mother is part of what the town is hiding and that knowing just who he can trust will make the difference between choosing light or darkness in the battle for his own soul.

I received Gravestone as a personal purchase to continue in series of Travis Thrasher's Solitary Tales. I enjoyed Solitary so much I had to see where the story picked up with Chris on the verge of wondering just what is going on and how much of it is crazy and how much of it is a chilling reality that the town wants to remain a secret. What will it cost for Chris to solve the mystery? You'll have to pick this one up to find out, but I would advise reading book 1 in the series first, to gain an understanding of the darkness keeping this town in secrecy! This one rates a 5 out of 5 stars and I can't wait to review the 3rd book in the series, Temptation!
