God, Faith and Reason

"What you will see in this book are snapshots of God, not a complete film. This book is presented in an omnibus style and does not have to be read in precise, sequential order. What you will see is one man's glimpses of God - images along the road of life. It is a scrapbook of the highest power through dreams, memories and stories, much like the ancient texts. I know a lot of people who are not religious but say, "You know, it's terrible. We were once a great Christian nation, and the churches are empty and the mosques are filling up. They always wanted someone else to go to church. People who don't go to church don't' really believe in God. They want someone to believe for them. They cry, "Oh, why are the churches empty?" To which I reply, "Well, why don't you go?" They aren't religious, but they wish other people were. Well, you are the other people."

As I have said many years ago, we've gone from St. Christopher medals to dream catchers in one generation. When I was a kid, it seemed as though every other car had a Catholic owner. They had little St. Christopher's statues on the dashboard. Myself, I didn't have one, but I liked that there were people who believed in God. And one day, I woke up, it was post-Obama and there were dream catchers hanging off mirrors. There are so many things hanging off mirrors, I don't know how people can see through their windshields. Mirrors and beads and voodoo. There is voodoo paraphernalia hanging off automobile mirrors and the country is melting down. It's total anarchy." (God, Faith and Family Preface).

God, Faith and Reason is a hard hitting book from Michael Savage, who doesn't hold back blunt honesty. If you are looking for a candy-coated rainbow colored book on what has happened to this once great nation that was founded on Christian principles, you might want to find another book. Michael Savage is about taking the hard hits and giving readers the blatant truth of his own opinion on where he believes this country was headed and how we might hope to get back the same foundation it was once built on. But it is going to take people to stand up for what is right, regardless of the costs. We need to stop building more laws and put the old laws back into place. Our country was built on the Constitution the way our founding fathers wrote it, not reinterpreting it to please our latest mood at the moment. When did people start becoming so offended anyway? Do we all have to agree? Can we not all have differences of opinion any longer? Must we all be forced to get along even when we don't agree with the way things are going?

I received God, Faith and Reason by Michael Savage, compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. I LOVE his books because he doesn't hold back the punches that need to be addressed. For the last 8 years, we have had leaders in this once great nation, completely rewrite and reinterpret what our Constitution has meant. Almost reading between the lines as it was. Now bakeries are being sued because a gay couple wanted a cake baked to their standards even if it didn't agree with this particular bakeries standards and beliefs. In fact, they had turned down other orders for the same reason, but now, it seems like everyone is lawsuit crazy instead of merely taking their business to another baker, they sued based on what? Their feelings being hurt. Seriously, that is what is wrong with this country and it is time to take back the country from the children who were running it based on what certain people felt. In my own lifetime I never thought I would see it coming apart at the seams but thank God in His mercy, He has allowed us a chance to possibly get this country back on its feet and earn the respect it once had. Something people could be proud of. We just need to get rid of those in office that are making that difficult. Hopefully some of the things Michael talks about in this book might help us do just that. All it takes is one person at a time, doing the right thing. For me, I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. Check it out for yourself and I hope you LOVE what you find tucked inside.

The Paper Bag Christmas

One of my most treasured books in my permanent library at home is the Winner's Game by Kevin Alan Milne. It was in that novel that not only was I introduced to a talented author, but also to the incredible life-changing stories that he could weave through the use of words on a simple piece of paper. They are the kinds of stories that stay with you long after you have put it down. I have to share the one book I will probably buy for all my family members this Christmas and it is The Paper Bag Christmas.

Its a short book, with a lasting message. When two young boys Molar Alan and his brother Aaron are taken to visit Santa Claus late one evening, they are challenged by him despite their lengthy Christmas lists for all the presents that can think of, to take a gift of everything they never wanted. That alone is enough to make most readers want to read this book. I mean, just what does that entail? The boys are taken into confidence by Dr. Ringle, a generous old man who loves to spend time visiting the children in his oncology ward at the hospital and brings the boys along dressed as his elves. Besides handing out the required red paper wish lists and candy canes, each of the boys are tasked with befriending a child in the hospital.

They will spend the next several days acting in Dr. Ringle's absence to break through the barriers each of these children are facing. For Aaron, his is a young boy from India, Madhu, who longs to understand the Jesus of the Bible when faced with Santa Claus. As the upcoming Christmas pageant approaches, he longs to be considered as one of the wise men, and when he learns those have all been filled, he makes a wonderful intelligent plea for them to reconsider more than just three. For Molar, his is the most difficult. Katrina is living on borrowed time. Everyone in her family has already died and now she is a ward of the hospital waiting to see when her last day will come. She is also bitter and wants nothing to do with Christmas. It was something she shared with her grandfather who has died and to enjoy it would feel like she is betraying him. So she remains shut in her room and the only way she will allow visitors is when she is cloaked in a paper bag she wears to cover her face.

I received The Paper Bag Christmas by Kevin Alan Milne compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. This is such a wonderful and heartwarming book as you discover deep down inside what will break through each of the children. Despite what you might think more than just one life will be changed through their assigned tasks and the gifts they receive will be priceless in the end. I encourage you all to pick up a copy of this book, and incorporate it into that tradition of storybook time with your children especially at Christmas. This is the one book that your children will want to read again and again, and so will you. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars and hope you decide to pick it up!

Vengeance

Sometimes when you finish a book and lay it down, it can be hard to imagine that it is simply all a story. That it hasn't happened. But also that it could very well happen just as it is laid out in the book you just read. Vengeance by Newt Gingrich is a chilling political suspense novel that once more pits Major Brook Grant against her nemesis known only as the Falcon. He has sworn a death threat against those she loves before he targets his attacks directly on her. While an unknown terrorist breaks through barricades at her wedding, she didn't realize that the President would make a last minute appearance. Even though all attempts to stop the rental truck from drawing too near to the event, Oklahoma would be remembered after this deadly explosion that would claim the lives of more than 300 people and barely leave Brooke alive with only her daughter as the last remaining family she had left.

Now that the President has been killed, the Vice President moves into the Oval Office and he isn't going to take any chances now that a nuclear device has been bought on the black market and known terrorist groups like the Falcon are planning on making America pay for all the retribution and Muslim lives that have been lost while trying to turn America away from being the once great nation it claims to be. The Vice President is about to use some unorthodox methods of catching the Falcon and locating the nuclear device and now it is time for vengeance to rise to the top. He doesn't want them brought back alive, he wants all of them dead and the device recovered before it can be used against American's.

Brooke is just the right candidate for the team known only as KTB or Kill the Bast**d. She just isn't prepared to work with agents from other countries that have their own reasons for wanting the Falcon dead including an Israeli Mossad agent and a Saudi intelligence officer and this time all bets are off. There is nothing keeping this team from accomplishing what needs to be done and with full authorization from the White House, Brooke is about to take the game to the Falcon's playing field and this time the game is about to change.

I received Vengeance by Newt Gingrich compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. This is a chilling look at what could quite possibly be going on in the dark shadows in our own country with countless groups looking to take down our political leaders and turn this county into one of great fear and submission. Yet like all good novels, our goodness rises to the top and for Brooke, it will be a duality of sorts, coming to terms with her own personal vengeance and saving the country she has vowed to serve so valiantly even if it costs her everything. She truly has nothing more to lose and the action never lets up until the last page. This is what draws me to novels like this, a true adrenaline rush and an unforgettable roller coaster ride of emotions. Another 5 out of 5 stars in this reader's opinion. This is the third novel in the Brooke Grant series.

Dog Company

What does it take to hold a prisoner in a war?

You just might be surprised at the politics involved that most American's know absolutely nothing about, and if they did, I believe most would be as outraged as I am. It seems like America has to always come out like the good guy during the war and thus our treatment of those who are killing our own troops get treated better than our own soldiers do, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that would easily convict them in our own courts of law. Yet with regard to war time policies, most of this terrorists are allowed to walk free and even have our government provide them with money to leave. Doesn't this just make your blood boil?

In the book, Dog Company by Lynn Vincent and Captain Roger Hill, it highlights one particular event that happened in which American soldiers were abandoned by their high command, meaning anyone higher up the command chain. "In this case the Pentagon does not want you to read about its catch-and-release detention system that allows the same enemy fighters to ambush, bomb, and shoot at America's sons and daughters over and over again. They don't want you to read about the unworkable rules of engagement that ties our troops hands behind their back while sending them to fight against an enemy that has no such rules. They don't want you to read about a system in which young soldiers are court-martialed, kick out of the service, or even imprisoned, while enemy spies who kill Americans are set free.

Dog Company tells the story of one Army unit's tragic experience with all those evils. But Dog Company, a unit of the famed 101st Airborne, is not alone. Her story is being replayed again and again in a lawyered-up war in which, the enemy leverages our rules of engagement by blending into the local population while our warriors, operating in a combat environment, are held not to just the laws of armed conflict but to unprecedented standards of criminal law. Senior civilian and uniformed leaders allow our soldiers and Marines to be tried and convicted for war crimes when, in bygone eras, their actions, motivated by the desire to protect their mates, would have been viewed as collateral damage in the fog of war. " (Author's Note).

I received Dog Company by Lynn Vincent and Captain Roger Hill compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. In accordance with the new FTC Guidelines for blogging and endorsements, you should assume that every book reviewed here at Reviews From The Heart was provided to the reviewer by the publisher, media group or the author for free and were received, unless specified otherwise. This is such an eye opening book that really conveys to readers the politics that interfere with our soldiers ability to do their jobs. We know that our enemies don't play by the same standards of warfare that we do and they know what we can and can't do to them, so they simply play our own rules against us and further cost American soldiers more lives lost in an effort to combat terrorism. I was immediately drawn into their story that is conveyed in this book and even includes the blacked out redactions that our government executed in an attempt to keep this from being published. The authors left it in so they could share the book as it was intended to be written so you will see pages of the book with black out phrases or paragraphs the government didn't want shared to the reader. This is such an intense but honest look at what is happening behind the battle lines that the media and most American's don't see but need to understand what is happening everytime our soldiers go out each day to deal with terrorist threats or simply doing their job while being deployed in hostile areas. Well deserving of 5 out of 5 stars and perfect for a Memorial Day read! This book does more than simply talk about the lives of those affect and lost, but gives readers more information about what is really happening to our American troops!

The Mouth-Body Connection

"Inflammation is the final common pathway in a host of diseases, often starting in the mouth with gum disease. Untreated, major diseases in all organ systems can and do result. Dr. Curatola delivers an excellent, easy-to-follow program to combat inflammation while maintaining the critical balance of our oral microbiome, the unique ecosystem of the mouth. Solidly scientific, informative and engaging."

Who would have ever thought that simply by looking in to the mouth, gums and tongue of someone would you be able to tell the state of their health? I remember distinctively visiting a Chinese herbalist in Los Angeles, who asked to look at both my tongue and mouth and new what what going on with my body. Did you know that your mouth can be an indicator for things like cancer, diabetes, anemia, liver disease, Hepatitis C, Crohn's disease, stress, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, HIV, Leukemia and others? Your mouth, gums and tongue can give up oral symptoms of these diseases often times before other signs begin to show up in your body.

Dr. Curatola provides the details in how we can ensure that we live a more healthier and happy life simply by what we take into our mouth and how our bodies react to it. He instructs readers on how to restore the microbiome balance in our mouths and reduce health-destroying inflammation by means of diet, supplements, exercise and stress reduction. This book even includes 4 weeks of meal plans and recipes that will convince you that eating for balance can be a treat!

I received The Mouth-Body Connection by Dr. Gerry Curatola compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. In accordance with the new FTC Guidelines for blogging and endorsements, you should assume that every book reviewed here at Reviews From The Heart was provided to the reviewer by the publisher, media group or the author for free and were received, unless specified otherwise. I absolutely believe that everything that is plaguing our bodies is based on what we are eating and drinking. We are seeing more evidence of diabetes, obesity and disease on the rise with nothing to stop it. Our lifestyles are too busy to allow us the time to educate ourselves that we are virtually eating our way to early death and disease when we don't have to. I absolutely LOVE this book and the insights it offers on how to get healthy and even more importantly how to have more energy and vitality to live our lives better than we thought possible and eliminate drugs to get us back on a healthy way of living. I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

My Brother's Keeper

"They are perhaps the sole rays of light in this dark era, the few whose consciences prevented them from being indifferent." ~ Yad Vashem

"Many did nothing - even though they called themselves Christians. Others joined the Nazis and supported Shoah, or Holocaust - the dark deadly storm that swept over Europe with the rise of Nazi Germany. In it more than six million Jewish men, women and children perished, killed by starvation or illness, fatally tortured or beaten, shot by Nazi death squads, or executed in concentration camp gas chambers. Contrary to popular misconception, in may ways the Jews of Europe resisted the evil that befell them. And as the unimaginable horror of the Holocaust descended upon Europe, countless people who professed the name of Christ also refused to remain silent or inactive. Many risked everything to help rescue Jewish targets of Nazi tyranny. Some even made the ultimate sacrifice, faithfully fulling the words of Jesus: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

My Brother's Keeper by Rod Gragg records the stories of thirty of them, all of whom have been honored by the State of Israel as "the Righteous Among the Nations." One of the Christians whose story is recounted in this work likely spoke for all herein when he explained why he chose to risk everything to save a single Jewish life. "I know that when I stand before God on Judgment Day," he said, "I shall not be asked the question posed to Cain - where were you when your brother's blood was crying out to God? " (pg 10).

My Brother's Keeper shares both the stories of these men and women who rose up in the face of perhaps the greatest evil atrocities of human kind and vowed not to stand by and do nothing when Hitler and his men tried in vain to rid the world of the Jewish race. Notables like Corrie Ten Bloom are captured as well as those whose names people might not recognize but save thousands of lives through their heroic efforts, some even paying with their own lives instead of standing idly by. This book also shares the history of such people like Hitler, Oskar Shindler and others so you get a full sense of what happened from the beginning until the brutal end. Why did the US and other nations not get involved when they knew what was happening in Germany and in other countries that Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini were controlling piece by piece. This is a part of world history we cannot forget and it shows that good can still overcome evil if people are willing to step up and challenge them.

I received My Brother's Keeper by Rod Gragg compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. It is hard to read these accounts and in the process you, the reader, are transported back to this time in history where people were stripped of their world possessions, wealth, and humanity for the sole reason of their birthright. The book shares these 30 accounts along with some historical pictures and is one I will not part with, and thus has become a part of my library sharing the history of the Jewish Holocaust as well as those that died trying to risk all to protect them. For me, this is a true 5 out of 5 stars.

Treason

"I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within." ~ Douglas MacArthur

Hard to imagine that you could take down a super power nation like the United States of America, but we all know too well that in order to take down any terrorist threat is is best to do so on their land and not wait for them to come here. However that is just the premise behind the latest novel from Newt Gingrich, Treason. With the threat of Islamic Terrorism on the rise and happening in remote locations it seems like it is coming from within our own borders. American bred terrorists makes for a chilling premise that even appointed officials in the presidential cabinet might be on the wrong side of fighting our own enemies.

When the President is the target in a potential suicide attack, sources show that someone from within the White House may be the source of the threat. Ever since 9/11 our nation has been fighting an invisible battle against radical terrorists while the Muslim people want their religion removed as the basis for this ongoing terrorism, as it is singling them out as a people and a religion. Even those in the White House are asking the President to stop using key words like Islamic, Muslim and religious fanatics, in order to bring down the hostilities against the Muslim people living in America.

But when a new terror figure emerges on the national scene known only as the Falcon, his target is now Major Brooke Grant and the young girl she has sworn to protect, as he issues a fatwa against her and those she loves. The only problem is that the threat is closer than she could have ever imagined, an American-born traitor burrowed inside the U.S. government itself.

"Treason is a story of a nation fighting for its life not only against outside threats but also against an internal threat - a fanatical jihadist who uses liberty as a shield while trying to destroy the civilization crated in its image. Can she unmask the traitor and stop Falcon's most skilled assassin sent to kill her before he strikes? Or will she fall victim to betrayal by a false friend in this gripping tale of treachery, courage, and ultimately patriotism where good battles evil?" (inside cover).

I received Treason by Newt Gingrich compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups. What makes this novel so interesting is our current President who is establishing Muslims within our current governmental offices and I can see how this book could become a very real threat even though it is a fictional based story. The quote by Douglas MacArthur is valid and it should be the concern of every American citizen to be educated enough about the not only the religious beliefs of Muslims but also what the intentions are of our enemies both abroad and now from within. For me, all of Newt's novels are action-packed and edge of your seat adrenaline rushes because once you begin them, it never lets up until you get to the final page. I read this one in a couple of hours. Definitely makes me sit up and take notice of what is happening in Washington and in light of the coming presidential election, we need to take note of protecting not only our borders but the people assigned to various roles within our own government offices. The threat is real and thus the reason for my 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Good Leaders Ask Great Questions

It has been said that it isn't the person who talks the most that is in control of the conversation, but the one who asks the questions, contrary to how it might feel. That is why, Good Leaders Ask Great Questions by John C. Maxwell, is such an amazing reference tool for anyone in any level of business. It helps with all kinds of situations and provides you some helpful advice you can use to not only get you through difficult situations on the job, but also to help you articulate your position and move you ahead in the corporate world.

Some questions you might be interested in are: What are the top skills required to lead people through difficult times? How do I get started in leadership? How do I motivate an unmotivated person? How can I succeed working under poor leadership? When is the right time for a successful leader to move on to a new position? How do you move people into your inner circle? And so much, much more. In fact it was two of those very questions that prompted me to pick up this book. My husband's company has been going through a standard reorganization as well as a lot of the higher ups are moving into retirement. Hence, the reason for wanting to know what you might want to do when working for someone who is less than skilled at the position that have been asked to take on temporary when they truly lack the skills to do their job? Is is time to move on or simply find a way to hold on for now? How do you handle that in dealing with a team as well as your own internal and external contacts that are less than thrilled with whom is selected?

This book was a true god-send for my husband. It provided him with the necessary questions to pose his temporary boss but also to address himself before he reached out to address the situation. The advice was well thought out and even gave him some insight he hadn't considered such as the implications is this is not handled or received well. It definitely is like having John C. Maxwell by your side as a consultant. I received Good Leaders Ask Great Questions by John C. Maxwell compliments of Center Street Publishers, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book, in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinions. Oh how I wish I would have had this book when dealing with so many situations when in a corporate world. It would have made my life much easier and thus the reason for a 4 out of 5 stars.

Scorched Earth

We have all seen what a fire can do when it burns through a forest. The devastation, the charred and blacken remains, and we reflect on just how bad things were for it to burn through the area unstopped. That is the very thing that has been happening under the current leadership of Obama. The America that once was is slowly being burned through from our constitutional rights, the blatant lies of those in leadership when confronted with the truth and facts and how the America that was once great is being slowly changed from within our own borders.

In his latest book, Michael Savage, takes a hard look at what has been happening in our government, our country and behind the man seated in the White House and wonders if the nation can recover from Obama's scorched earth policies? Progressive policies and open borders have poisoned America. Our constitution has been trampled by a divisive president and America is a third world nation of terror, riots, mobs and chaos. Are we simply one bad election away from losing the America we once grew up in?

"We are fighting for our very lives and freedoms. Where there's a one man rule, there's a chance for great corruption. It's very much like organized crime. That's why we in America enjoyed a great government for a very long period of time until it became what it is now: a Ponzi scheme in a criminal empire that runs off one-man rule where there are few checks and balances. Witness what Obama did with the Iran deal. The American people opposed it by a large majority. Only 20 percent supported giving Iran a path to nuclear weapons. Think about that. Where's our representation? Congress opposed it, yet he used quasi-legal maneuvering to support Iran. If that is not a one-man rule, I'd like to know what is."

"Here's a short list of his crimes and misdemeanors: providing arms to people who would kill Americans, whether they are Arabs in Gaza or the Mexican drug cartels; using the Internal Revenue Service as a political weapon against legitimate nonprofit organizations that dared to oppose him; changing laws by executive action, rather than the way laws are supposed to be made or amended: through congressional action - Congress, not the president, is the lawmaking body in this country. We are not a banana republic - yet. Look at the way he implemented the so-called DREAM immigration law: when Congress didn't go far enough to carry out his agenda, he just executive-ordered it into existence." (pg. 41-42)

We have an openly mad president who is doing everything he can as quickly as he can to decimate everything this country stood for, stands for and would stand for. This is the one election that all Americans have to vote for. If there is one man who stands in opposition of everything Obama has done and continues to do it is Trump. The fact that the man is self supported financially means he can not be controlled by special interest groups and Obama has his opponent ready to replace him with Clinton. She will continue to do all he has done and more to help cover his tracks that we all know Trump will bring to light. This is an eye opening look at just what stands to be lost if we fail to take action this November.

I received Scorched Earth by Michael Savage compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups in exchange for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased and personal opinion. I really love how Michael brings to light what motivations Obama has been using over the last 8 years in office and what Clinton's plans are. It is hard to fathom in this day how she is even eligible to run for office. I think we all owe Nixon an apology for his impeachment. Even more important is what we can do as Americans, while Obama is doing all he can to get Muslim support in this election to ensure Trump does not get elected, because he will make American great again in restoring the constitutional laws and rights of our country, our military and our borders and go after terrorism in a bold way. We can't leave this up to chance. Read this book for yourself, and if you're like me, it a great reminder of what has been pushed under the carpet in order to keep those secrets in the dark just prior to election year. Well worth every 5 out of 5 stars.

A Gathering in Hope

There is nothing funny about a bunch of bats living in the attic of the meeting house. While the committee members continue to struggle about the best use of the financial windfall they have inherited by the recent passing of a former member of their church, it seems unlikely that the building of the addition to the church is going to happen. At least not under the watchful eyes of the Department of Natural Resources who have declared that the bat colony taking up residence is under federal protection of the species and can not be disturbed for at least three months possibly more.

While the pastor of the church, Sam Gardner, couldn't be more pleased, things are about to get interesting as one series of events will lead to a chain reaction that will have everyone questioning one another's real motives. The Fink couple who manage to wind up in the middle of everything is the catalyst. Sam doesn't care for them because it seems like they are just waiting for him to mess something up with running the church so he can be removed. So while it may feel like walking on eggshells that is nothing compared to what is coming. It can only be described by the reader as downright comical in the scheme of things, but to those who it is happening to, it is catastrophic as assumptions are made, rumors spread and everyone is questioning everyone's true motives over what they would rather believe is true.

Who would have ever thought that a colony of Indiana bats could stir up the congregation and cause such outright division about the community but also within its members and even right into the core of one's family. When someone kills all the bats without knowing they have been declared protected, pretty soon rumors spread that the bat bodies found in the trash bag by the local trash company is just the beginning of a Satanic cult begin lead first by the pastor himself but then fingers are pointed that it really began with the wife and the pastor is just an innocent bystander. Will they ever get things sorted out so they can reestablish the community of believers and finally decide on how best to spend the inherited money? Be prepared for the ride of your life!

I received A Gathering in Hope by Philip Gulley compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside for a free copy of the book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. This series is really all about the quirky personalities that make up a small town community church and how each of them interacts with one another. From the church busybodies who want to know everything that is really going on, to Sam's mother who in her old age, believes that she can still bike ride about town like she did when she was a girl until she is hit by a teen while texting and driving. In her confusion, she knows she is prescribed one pain pill for her injury but thinks if one is good, two can be better, and then again why not double that. Rumors fly when her doctors think she has a prescription drug problem and soon everything is off and running again. I thoroughly enjoyed this book better than the previous one in this series and this one truly makes up for it doubly so! Well worth 4 out of 5 stars.

Watchdog

When you think of the word Scandal, you are probably thinking something to do with Washington right? It is hard especially when you consider everything from the Benghazi murders, to the corruption that seems be never ending at all levels of government. You begin to wonder who is running this country and more and is there truly anyone out there willing to expose the truth?

In the book Watchdog, Darrell Issa, gives readers real stories behind the headlines from the Congressman who exposed Washington's biggest scandals. As I began to read this book, the one thing that really hit home is besides exposing these scandals, what else has been done? I believe more has to be done besides simply exposing this corruption, but it is holding people accountable from the bottom all the way to the top. It seems however that lately those committing this crimes are getting off with nothing more than a hand slap.

While the book Watchdog gives readers more of an inside look at the background of Darrell Issa, along with some of the biggest scandals he was responsible for investigating, it just seems that lately more needs to happen. Working on the Oversight Committee just means that he investigates and attempts to provide information necessary for further charges to be administered, but like most things in Washington, it all gets buried under more red tape.

The book does give you insight into how broad the corruption really is from bribes to money laundering, to uncover what is really happening in the Obama Administration and Hillary Clinton's state department. The one thing you really come to understand is while the truth might be exposed, there are those who will stop at nothing to ensure that these issues never come before the public, while paying off the media to simply look the other way. Makes one wonder if there is any hope for some real change. Guess we owe Nixon a huge apology for the way things were handled today in light of everything happening from Obama Care to the many issues with Hillary Clinton. One thing is certain, while people might want the truth, when it is exposed, nothing happens and that is where the true problem in Washington lies.

I received Watchdog by Darrell Issa compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and unbiased personal opinion. I was hoping for more than I honestly got and even though it really dug deep it saddened me as an American citizen to know that all we are seeing now is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There is so much much more happening that we don't even get to see and part of that is given in this book. The worst part is that is seems like this monster is growing and there seems to be nothing to stop it. What will the world look like in another 10 years is downright frightening. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

A Lesson in Hope

I love small towns. Perhaps it is because you truly get to know everyone in them and there are no strangers. Harmony is one of those places, in the fictional world of Philip Gulley anyway and A Lesson of Hope is the second novel for fans of the Harmony series, that takes us back once again to the people who live there. From Sam Gardener, the pastor of Hope Friends Meeting, one of several churches in town, who is trying to hang onto his job in light of those who saw him filling this position as a temporary sort. You have your long time residents who sit on the board whenever there is an issue and I would have to say that these folks are a bit vocal in how they deal with anything concerning the church. They are not your nice small town church folks, you would think of.

When one of their own passes away Olive Charles, she leaves the church in a dither about leaving them a million dollars to be used as they see fit. Well of course, each of the board members sees fit to use the money in the manner they most want, from Wayne Newby who believes the church needs a new roof. But since they have insurance on the church he feels they should simply punch holes in the existing roof and call it hail damage and submit a claim. When Sam tries to argue that this would be lying, Wayne does it anyway and falls off the roof in the process.

Meanwhile, Olive's niece, Regina who hasn't seen her Aunt in more than 20 years shows up at the funeral service to pay her last respects in a drunken stupor hoping that there might just be an inheritance in the making and wonders if any other family members have come forward. When she learns Olive left all her withholdings to the church, she immediately gains a lawyer to sue the church board for what she believes she is entitled to. When that doesn't seem to be working, she hires a slick lawyer on TV to sue the church for one million dollars for the uneven payment she claims she slipped on and now can no longer work. Seems like small town life for the residents of Harmony just got more interesting.

I received A Lesson in Hope by Philip Gulley compliments of Center Street Publishing for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and personal opinion. Having read A Place Called Hope, I was looking for a repeat of the same, but found it extremely difficult to get interested in the lives of those in the church who seemed more motivated by selfish gains than being what I would call true believers. Perhaps that is what internally what most folks might think, but these people make it their livelihood to voice their discontent even at the expense of others. That was my biggest disappointment of all. For that reason I could only give this one a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Others might have a different viewpoint, but I found it truly hard to care about any of the characters in this novel.

Just Life

Could you imagine simply turning in your dog because of a viral outbreak? What if you had no choice? What if you were mandated to do so under the fear that you might never see your dog again if they believe that destruction is necessary to prevent the spread of the virus to keep from killing children? How far would you go?

These are the choices that residents of Riverside, a small neighborhood in New York have been asked to do as part of a quarantine to prevent the spread of what the CDC has determined might be a killer rabies virus. First they thought the recent deaths of the children of Riverside was caused by the bird flu, but tests are coming back confirming that it is rabies and with the presidential election coming, the Governor wants to ensure that his rally goes off in Central Park without any issues.

Samantha Lewis, owner of Finally Home, a non kill pet shelter and veterinarian has her work cut out for her. Not only does she have to find homes for the pets currently in her shelter due to a mandate from the city that they are closing her shelter but they have placed a quarantine on the cities dogs within Riverside. She can't bear the thought of how the CDC will handle the situation if they deem the dogs are the carrier. Despite all the tests and blood work she is doing on the dogs being brought into her from the residents, she knows once people go into panic mode, the dogs will be slated to be killed in order to contain the virus. But based on all her knowledge is seems suspicious that rabies would find a way to cross over to humans without being bitten. She will have to reach out to the one person who can help her and the one person she doesn't want to call. Her father.

I received Just Life by Neil Abramson compliments of Center Street Publishers, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside from a free copy of this novel, in exchange for my honest and personal opinions. This is such a great novel despite the profanity and makes you consider just how we handle these viral outbreaks with the slaughter of animals that are called into question. This really impacted me personally as a pet lover, and wondered just what I would do if called to give up my dog knowing they might be killed in an effort to contain the viral outbreak. Humans or animals? That is the choice up for debate in this political thriller! For me this rated 4 out of 5 stars only due to the profanity and my own personal rating system I have established. Without it, 5 out of 5 stars.

True Reagan

"Though Reagan was famous with his generation for having starred in movies, the fact was his resume included many more jobs than just appearing in films - all of them preparing him for and leading up to his ultimate starring role as President. Reagan was President for eight years, but the world was never on intimate terms with him. The world never owned a little bit of him as it has some other leaders who have lived out their personal lives in public. He made many of us feel better and more secure about our own lives but we were never invited into his. According to Fouad Ajami of Stanford University, 'The Reagan presidency was about America, and never about Ronald Reagan." (pg 63).

In the book, True Reagan by James Rosebush, readers are given a rare glimpse into the man who many considered the last great President of the United States, like we never have before. James Rosebush was the longest-serving Chief of Staff to Nancy Reagan and Deputy Assistant to President Reagan, and through this book, we learn what made Reagan tick, what was the secret to his greatness, the source of his influence, the key to his character and the strength behind his leadership?

"He has been out of office for nearly three decades, and yet the name of Ronald Reagan is heard often today. Even as history fades and the precise details of his presidency become less distinct, many believe that the fortieth President of the United States would have answers to the complex and almost implacable issues we face today, or, at minimum, he might have the bearing and the strength of character to significantly improve global geopolitical conditions. In our extraordinarily disruptive world, Reagan is recalled as a leader who could verbally wrestle global agitators into submission. Some people look for his character traits to be represented in the voices of today's leaders. Few find them there." (pg 1).

It is hard not to look back in history and see the confidence and strength that came from a man who gained the respect not only of his own country but of the world in his negotiations with some difficult situations in office. Many claim that Reagan was the one responsible for Gorbachev tearing down the Berlin Wall in spite of ongoing tensions during the Cold War with Russia. Many don't know that Reagan was both a Democrat and Republican, Actor, Life Guard, Sportcaster, Governor and President, but also the son of a preacher, not his father but mother, and wonderful devoted husband. While he led our country through eight years, he never hid behind his title or garnered attention in office. In fact, he was a private man who spent most of his time, living out his faith in ways many won't understand until he left office. He was bold, yet humble, strong yet assertive, and most of all I believe he was the last great President this nation has had.

I received True Reagan by James Rosebush compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups in exchange for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my personal and honest evaluation. There are so many great quotes from this book in numerous speeches that Reagan gave during some of his highlights during his presidency. Since I grew up with him as President, I never considered the depth of his character until many years later. I feel I missed an opportunity to really know him in light of the recent presidents that have held office after his. You can't help but wonder how this country and world might be if he was still in office. For me, this one rated a 5 out of 5 stars and has found a permanent home in my personal library. Highly recommend to anyone looking for evidence of Reagan's faith while in office as President.

Duplicity

I have heard of Newt Gingrich, but never realized that he was a published author as well of some amazing fiction novels like Duplicity, his latest. Sometimes I believe that those that have an inside view of what goes on within our government offices offer us the best types of novels because there is so much to be gained by having first hand experience in those areas. In this political thriller, it could be the next headlines we read in the news today as terrorism within the Islamic groups continues to escalate unchecked as in the recent events in Paris and now San Bernardino.

In Duplicity, we have those same threats on the horizon as two separate storylines unfold. One is the upcoming presidential election between the current president of the United States, Sally Allworth, and upcoming candidate, Timothy Coldridge. Coldridge is hoping to utilize a new strategy to poke holes in the recent developments of disregarding issues in America with regards to the citizens concerns while highlighting the results of Allworth's stance on working more on international and foreign issues. His campaign is geared to promote a sense of nationalism into this election and show the voters that the current president is more focused on international issues than dealing with the concerns of citizens. It is just the goal a presidential candidate might need to sway the voters in the next election, bring troops home, help the homeless and veterans at home, deal with the concerns of the United States over issues abroad. It will take a boatload of work now that it appears that Coldridge has found the right type of bait to lure voters to the polls and elect him over Allworth.

Meanwhile the terrorist plots continue to unfold in all kinds of locations with ties to Islamic groups who are seeking the destruction of the United States and its foreign enemies abroad. As the political interests line up for the next election, Allworth decides to focus her campaign on how she is preventing threats from happening in America but attacking the issues on foreign soil first. She is advised by her staff to reopen an American embassy in Somalia, even though they know better than to actually staff it with any real leaders from America due to the recent Islamic threats in the city. However, if she can show that they are making a dent in terrorism, she may just sway the voters to accept her current political agenda. But like all great plans, this one winds up much like the Benghazi attacks and now our military is at risk and hostages are taken. Will America have learned nothing throughout its historical failings and shortcomings? The time is running out.

I received Duplicity by Newt Gingrich compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside from a free copy of this novel, in exchange for my honest opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Like I stated before, insiders often have the best storylines because you don't know how much of it is true or not. I was especially impressed by how well emails are encoded with messages simply through the pixels in an image that to the ordinary eye would simply just be a photo embedded until it's passed through a series of coding software and the true message is revealed. I think this novel was well worth the time to read through it all and I only hope, this remains just a fictional story and never truly comes to fruition. I would rate this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Government Zero

In America, we have only a left wing and a far-left wing. A bird needs two wings to fly. This country is going in circles because it has two left wings, flapping around the clock. A bird needs a left wing and a right wing to fly. In Michael Savage's latest book, Government Zero, he really focuses on what exactly is going on with the current leadership in our government, congress, the Supreme Court and of course, the Presidency, while many American's, like myself, are shaking their heads and wondering what is going on with those in charge of leading this once great nation literally into the ground.

So what is Government Zero? We're facing something  the West hasn't had to deal with since the wars of religion in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The same thing is happening right now. We are supposed to be a nation where the government is "of the people, by the people, and for the people." Yet every poll shows this rogue government of sneaks and traitors seems to relish doing the opposite of the will of the people. It is a government of itself, by itself and for itself, run by lobbyists. In short, Government Zero is absolute, unchecked government power and zero representation of the people. It doesn't exist to promote conservative or liberal principles. It is not pro-immigration or anti-immigration. It is not capitalist or socialist. It is not religious or atheist. Those are all just means to its end.

We are paralyzed as this most evil of administration swings its sledgehammers at our most revered institutions. A climate of fear grips the people as the sneaks in high places spy on us, sell us out to Red China in a secret trade deal, decimate our medical system, eviscerate our military leadership, evaporate our borders, erase our culture, and attack religion's basic tenets. Meanwhile, millions of illegal aliens pour over our southern border, bringing with them an unwillingness to assimilate into American culture, refusing to even speak English. "That's why the government is attacking everything that makes the world livable for the rest of us. It is attacking free enterprise, because it needs higher taxes and more regulations to expand its wealthy and power. It is promoting open borders, because immigrants from socialist or Islamic countries don't share our traditions of individual liberty and limited government. It wages war on police, because civil unrest allows it to exercise more centralized power or even martial law, eventually with a federal police force answering only to the kings and queens of government. It attacks freedom of speech, because dissent is like dryptonite to an all-powerful government." (pg 5).

I received Government Zero by Michael Savage compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. It is hard to not read through this book and see the very things that Mr. Savage points out that is happening, from the smug looks from Hillary Clinton when testifying on her role in email scandals to the Benghazi failure, she seems to think she is above the law. When we watch the Supreme Court, take matters of deciding what will be the law of the nation away from the hands of the voters in matters like the Obamacare and Same Sex Marriage issues, all the while people are shaking our heads and wonder if we have woken up to some alternate version of the United States, but it is truly a living nightmare. However, Mr. Savage gives readers hope on what we can begin doing to help get our country back on track before it's too late, and I have to agree with Mr. Savage, that it truly is a spiritual issue that has gotten us off track and we need to turn back before we turn this sad state of affairs over to the next generation. We, as the people, need to take back our freedoms, our liberties and our country. I would rate this book, a 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

A. D. 33

WOW! Three simple letters that define how blown my mind is by Ted Dekker's latest novel. It quite literally goes beyond what the human mind can comprehend or even begin to put into words. Perhaps the best part of this novel is the disclaimer that Ted offers to readers that this is a fictional novel written using various portions of Scripture from the Bible to transport readers back in time to a pivotal moment in history that has forever changed the world.

A.D. 33 is the sequel to Dekker's previous novel A.D. 30 in which the queen of the desert known as Maviah finds herself questioning the very experience of Yeshua whom she encountered in the city of Petra. She now finds herself in great opposition in defending that very faith for the lives not only of the Bedouin people, but also the life of the orphan boy, Talya, she is raising since the death of her own child, at the hands of those that defy Yeshua and His teachings. As she attempts to reconcile the recent kidnapping of the love of her life, Judah, she finds she must search within herself and resolve the very identity she believes defines her and those around her.

As a woman in the culture of the Middle East, she carries as much weight as those considered outcasts by society. She struggles with knowing how to apply the power she has found in her faith in Yeshua, but like all of us, when pushed to the breaking point, realizes that her faith is much like that of seed scattered among the rocks, when adversity comes, it withers. As those she truly cares for and loves is brought under the tyranny of those in power, she wonders how those who follow Yeshua keep their faith. Not until she meets up with Him once again, does she realize that they will all follow away until they realize what Yeshua means to take up your cross and follow me. One by one as they follow Yeshua up to the point of being betrayed and crucified, the realization of all His teachings won't be understood until they accept His way over the way of the world.

I received A.D. 33 by Ted Dekker compliments of Center Street Publishers, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest opinion. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review, aside from a free copy of this novel, and the opinions contained here are my honest and personal ones. There are simply so many great take aways from this novel I never understood til I walk through this with Maviah's character and truly felt the impact of Yeshua's wisdom from the Bible. For those of you looking for a wonderfully powerful biblical historical fictional novel, pick up not only this novel but A.D. 30 as well to gain the full impact of Maviah's story of finding her faith and understanding it as never before. In my opinion, one of THE best novels of 2015 and well worth all 5 out of 5 stars. Well done Mr. Dekker, well done!

Water From My Heart

In most of our lives, we wonder if the path we began on can ever change. For some of us, we believe that it is simply too late after we have been on that path for too long, especially when you're doing something illegal. For Charles Finn, he knows that if he can keep himself on the path without any connections to family, or any type of involvement in any relationship, it will benefit not only himself but those around him. It is also a very lonely lifestyle to live when you realize in looking back, you have absolutely nothing to show for it except money. Those that flock to that are often only looking out for their own best interests and will only hang out until the money dries up.

For Charles, he knew that he was always great with numbers especially after graduating from Harvard with an MBA in Finance. But he was only interested in what he could get out of life and nothing more. From learning how to win at cards, he took advantage of those who were not as educated as he was in both life and learning. He soon gained the attention of Marshall Pickering, not with his business mind, that would come later, but it was his interest or apparent lack of interest he showed in Amanda, his daughter. While most tried hard to gain Marshalls attention through dating Amanda, Charles knew how to play the man better than he thought and soon gained both, a place in Marshall's business world and the option to date Amanda, even though he kept that on a casual basis.

But working with Marshall soon gave Charles insight into a corrupt business world that would forever change the path he would remain on. As long as he didn't get caught using his valuable life skills he made both Marshall and himself a lot of money running drugs to Central America and gaining the financial acquisition of a coffee company that cornered the market on organic great tasting coffee that went beyond anything the world had ever tasted. It would be that obsession in doing whatever was needed to take over that company that would come back to haunt Charles in his immediate future. Is there a way for a man to gain redemption and acceptance or is he forever doomed to a life of immeasurable consequences?

I received Water From My Heart by Charles Martin compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions found here are strictly my own. What I loved more about this novel wasn't so much the story that surfaced from true life events but the author's own self discovery of who God was in the process of researching this novel and how he couldn't deny the existence of God any more. I think for readers that is such an important moment that is shared when after reading this, you discover how it all came to be. That is how God-moments occur on a personal one on one basis, and God meets you in a very personal way that you are forever touched and can never go back. This novel alternates between current time frames and Charles past so you can see how they all converge to where he finds himself trying to come to terms with who he is and trying to find a way to change for the better by those wonderful people he meets along his journey. I rate this one 4.5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Love Gently Falling

Just when Rita Jansen thinks she finally has the perfect life all figured out, tragedy strikes with one phone call from her dad. Her mother has had a stroke and they aren't sure if she will recover but it doesn't look good. Now she will leave her life as a hair stylist in Beverly Hills to face the cold winter of Chicago to help her mother for the next two weeks. Her passion for hair began working with her mother at her salon Hair and Now, and it was her mother who funded the money to send her to school to get her license even though it was in California. Her mother had always been there to support her, now it was Rita's turn to help in any way she could.

When she arrived at the airport intending on finding her own transportation to get to the hospital, she is more than surprised when an old friend from school, Johnny Hollister, is there to pick her up. This way her family can stay at the hospital and not have to worry about Rita. They share a great reunion in the drive there and she learns that Johnny has added her mother's salon to his growing number of clients for his janitorial company. She also learns that her childhood best friend has opened her own shop in the same mall as the salon.

When Rita arrives, she learns that her mother's recovery and stroke was worse than she imagined and it will take about six months to get her back on her feet again. Until then, it's long hours of physical therapy to get her speech and movement back. Rita vows to spend those two weeks renovating her mother's outdated salon to something she would be proud of. But how will she be able to manage it with only two weeks and a very limited budget. All she knows is she has to try because by the looks of things if she doesn't her mother may be out of business before she can return to the salon again.

I received Love Gently Falling by Melody Carlson compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This is such a beautiful contemporary romance perfect for Valentine's Day! The love that abounds not only for Rita's family and friends but even for her own childhood skating rink comes full circle by the conclusion of this book and teaches us that it's never to let to find love in the places we might least expect it. This one is worthy of 5 out of 5 stars.
