Sins of the Mothers
Sometimes we think that we know best, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Despite what her Texas Ranger father, Henry Buckmeyer had asked, Mary, his daughter waited until the entire family left for their trip to Europe, before she took her inheritance and hightailed it out west with the man she loved, Caleb Wheeler. Taking a 100 gold coins in some saddlebags and some paper currency, she believed it would be enough for a fresh start to a happy and wonderful life.
But as things always go, Mary was able to face insurmountable odds, when Caleb announces that his cousin Lanelle is joining them as well to watch over his stock of moonshine that he is hoping to sell for $1 a shot on the west coast among those who are searching for gold out in the hills of California. He has a vested interest along with his cousin John in opening a mercantile to sell everything a miner could need and make a killing. With Mary's knowledge and ability to barter, he knows he has exactly what he has planned in convincing her to marry him and head west.
But when they arrive, Mary doesn't realize that Lanelle and Caleb have a twisted love affair going on behind her back. When she realizes she is now pregnant with their first child, she is convinced it will be enough to settle down Caleb's wild ways, but unfortunately Lanelle also winds up pregnant but she is able to keep that a secret from Mary. Lanelle hopes that once Caleb learns she is pregnant, he will leave Mary behind and marry her instead. But she too soon realizes that she has been played by Caleb for his sole benefit alone and moves up into the hills where she marries Moses Jones, who offers to be a great husband and father to his baby and she realizes that love can come in all kinds of packages. It also provides her some distance between Mary and Caleb who are working on making a profit in the mercantile.
When Caleb winds up in the wrong place and the wrong time, Mary soon realizes how sagely her father and mother's advice was, to help her to avoid making the exact same mistakes they did. Now she realizes that just what the Bible says, that the sins of the fathers can visit the third and fourth generations of their children, Mary understands that is precisely what has happened to her and even though she wants more than anything to reconcile her relationship with her family, she knows she can never return home or face the humiliation her family must hold against her.
I received Sins of the Mothers by Caryl McAdoo compliments of Create Space Independent Publishing Platform for my honest review of this novel. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside for a free eBook copy and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. Oh how I love a great historical western and no one writes them as well as Caryl McAdoo does. I can't wait for the 5th novel in this series to be published before the end of this year. Sins of the Mothers is the 4th novel in the Texas Romance Series and in the heart of this book reviewer rates a wonderful 4.5 out of 5 stars. There are so many exceptional overlays of biblical stories that this one relates to that you can't help but enjoy it among all the excitement of the California gold rush!

The Ranch Next Door and Other Stories

Like little samples of your favorite desserts all wrapped up in the pages of this debut ebook, The Ranch Next Door and Other Stories by Elisabeth Grace Foley. This writer truly has the beautiful gift of being able to offer a taste of what she can write in this simple but powerful short stories. I found myself lost immediately in each one and wanted to much more when I got to the end.
The way I viewed each of these stories were like the old radio western stories our grandparents and parents would listen to on the radio. Just enough of the episode to keep you on the edge of your seat and then tuning back in the following evening just to hear what happened next. I would LOVE to see Elisabeth Grace Foley write a full length novel on one of the stories she has so eloquently captured in this collection, but for those of you that love those classic western tales of life on the wide open range with danger and intrigue around the corner with a touch of romance tossed in for good measure, then this is the perfect collection for you. Here's a synopsis of what you'll find in the book from the author:
Suspense, humor and a touch of romance await in seven short stories of the American West. In the title story, "The Ranch Next Door," a cattleman's young son dreads breaking the news to his family that he has fallen in love with the daughter of a neighboring sheep rancher despite an ancient feud between the two families. In "Cross My Heart," a boy is torn between betraying his conscience or a fugitive friend, and in "Delayed Deposit," five people are taken hostage during a bank robbery that turns into a tense standoff. The collection also includes the award-winning "Disturbing the Peace," honorable mention in the 2010 Rope and Wire short story competition. These seven stories total approximately 40,330 words or 161 book pages.
As you can see there are some great stories locked within the pages of this wonderful ebook and I was honored to be asked to review this book by the author for my honest opinion. Being a huge fan of western historical fiction, I couldn't wait to read this one and hope for many many more from her in the future. In my opinion the reader will not be disappointed and this one rates a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. Hearts Aglow
Deborah Vandermark has always dreamed of becoming a doctor in Texas, yet amid the constant stares and whispers around her, it seems as though the town isn't quite ready for a woman doctor. Christopher Clayton is the only doctor in these parts that is able to treat the people of Perkinsville. He sees hope in Deborah's eyes and such a passion and desire to care for the people of this town. So whenever possible he passes along his medical journals and magazines for Deborah to read as well as help out in his office whenever possible. He sees more in Deborah than just an interest in becoming a doctor. He just can't forget about his own past to move forward and court Deborah properly.
In the town of Perkinsville that isn't the only thing stirring in the night, as Sissy's husband and son are hanged in the middle of the night strictly due to the color of their skin. Sissy only survived because she managed to walk into town and fall into the hands of Deborah's mother and her brother G.W. With her having a degree of medical training, Deborah is the only hope Sissy has until they can locate Dr. Clayton.
Now it seems like Deborah isn't the only one to question why God allows such things to happen. Seems like a whole lot of people in town are going to start to wonder the very same thing.
In the sequel to Embers of Love by Tracie Peterson, we are once more reunited with Deborah Vandermark and her mentor/doctor Christopher Clayton in the novel Hearts Aglow. Set in the late 1800's in a town called Perkinsville, Texas, the town is about to come full circle when the past that Deborah and Clayton thought were behind them suddenly throws both into the faith of God. I couldn't wait to read this one as the love between Clayton and Deborah captivated me in the first novel as well as the strong character and ambition that Deborah displays in rising above the stereotypes of the town amid gossips and rumors of her personal character to become a woman most men would be willing to die for.
I received this book compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and fell in love once more. Not only with the characters of Deborah and Clayton, but even the courage of Sissy to deal with the loss of her husband and son and once more find love and hope in holding onto to God. This one rates a 5 out of 5 stars! I can't wait with fingers crossed that once more Tracie will continue this story into a third book.
Here's even more great information about the book, the author and a first chapter glimpse that is guaranteed to have you wanting to read this amazing story.

ABOUT THE BOOK
The future should be bright for Deborah Vandermark, who is now pursuing her interest in medicine alongside Dr. Christopher Clayton, who is courting her. But the lumber town is resistant to the idea of a woman physician, and she feels thwarted at every turn.
A more devastating blow occurs, however, when Christopher breaks off their relationship to return home to his troubled family. Despite her own love life going awry, Deborah is still intent to be a matchmaker for both her widowed mother and her brother, who has caught the eye of the spit-fire daughter of the local pastor.
But what will Deborah do when faced with the truth about Christopher's family? Is there hope for the two of them...or will Jake Wyeth's attentions finally catch Deborah's eye instead?

The Vigilante's Bride
Emily McCarthy has just learned that the orphanage she has been with for as long as she can remember is having her shipped to Montana as an answer to an ad for a mail order bride for a wealthy rancher named Bart Axel.
Only being 18, she is told that her prospects of finding a man where she is currently is slim at best and seeing as she would most likely be well cared for by Mr. Axel the arrangements for her trip have already been made.
Bart Axel is a very wealthy rancher, but not an honest one. He's made most of his money swindling honest people out of their land, cattle and anything else in order to make a buck and gain the potential for making even more money if the railroad decides to buy the rights to the land. He's even been accused of killing his last wife, but no one has been able to prove that except to say the "accident" seems suspicious. However when he learns he is about to gain an 18 year old wife, he is more than content with his latest conquest.
Luke Sullivan has spent most of his life as an orphan being raised by Miss Molly. Now for the past few years he has joined Grant Stuarts vigilance committee in order to keep law and order on the open ranges. Whenever cattle is stolen or breaking the law occurs, the committee is the one to deal the swift hand of justice. When Luke Sullivan learns that his family had been swindled out of the land in a bad game of cards, courtesy of Bart Axel, Luke is going to settle the score once and for all.
Upon seeing Axle's banker in Montana taking his latest "treasure" back to the ranch, Luke finds that this is the time to settle the score. However when he learns that the "treasure" is the mail order bride for Bart Axel on the stage, he isn't about to let this one go.
I received the book, The Vigilante's Bride by Yvonne Harris, compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. This was such a great western romance book for me to read. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars for the way the story draws you in from the first page.
