Medical Judgment

Sometimes no matter how much we want to put the past behind us, it keeps rearing its ugly head. For Dr. Sarah Gordon, as much as she wishes each morning that her nightmare isn't real with the death of her daughter and husband, reality comes each morning when she realizes her bed will always remain empty. Work for now at the hospital is the only solace she can find to keep moving forward. She has all but given up on church, believing that God doesn't care enough about her, because if He did, why didn't he stop that accident that took her life from her? She is angry, and bitter even blaming her husband if that were at all reasonable, but that is what grief does. It keeps you in a senseless bondage at times and nothing seems rational.

She had thought perhaps the noise she heard and the subsequent smell of smoke, might just be in her imagination, but when she goes to investigate, she realizes that someone has attempted to set her house on fire, leaving behind some oily rags to be the catalyst. Good thing for her, quick thinking and a rapid response from her local fire department prevented any real damage from happening. She can't imagine not living in the house where so many memories of her previous life are still ingrained. But who could have deliberately set her house on fire? Those of the questions Detective Bill Larson has for her when he has her come into the station, but for the life of Sarah, she can't think of anyone who would want to do that.

Kyle Andrews, attorney and best friend to her former husband, understands what it is to lose someone you love. He vows in his mind that even if Sarah doesn't ask, he will step up and do the right thing and that means being there for her, when her husband can't. It is what he knows he would of wanted so as both her attorney he offers his legal and personal advice to keep Sarah safe. He helps makes arrangement with a local friend and contractor to help get her home restored from the smoke and fire damage so she doesn't have to move out. He offers to help with a security system and even a suggestion she might want to have a gun, but all those are not options Sarah is willing to consider. For now, she just wants the person/s caught so she can move forward in her life, without the attentions of two men who simply are looking out for her best interests. But things are about to escalate in the worst possible way and it will make you wonder who can you really trust in the end!

I received Medical Judgment by Richard L Mabry, MD compliments of Litfuse Publicity and Abingdon Press for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside for a free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased and personal review. I've been a huge fan of Richard L Mabry's novels for quite some time, because they are realistic in their core pertaining to medical procedures without being cheesy like Grey's Anatomy. There is always a mystery behind the facade and you just never know what you are in for each time, but you know it will be exceptional. I loved this one as well because during the entire novel, I kept trying to figure out who it might be. Richard does a great job at keeping it concealed until just the right moment and then you are hooked to the very end to see how it will all play out. Nothing like a great cat and mouse suspense thriller and this one garners a 4.5 out of 5 stars in my mind.

Miracle Drug

Richard L. Mabry has such an expertise at writing hardline medical suspense thrillers and his latest is exceptional. In Miracle Drug, we take a look at the world of a fictious pharmaceutical company that holds the only cure to a rare and fatal disease that has been launched against the former president of the United States as well as an innocent by-stander Rachel Moore. His only hope lies with his recently appointed personal physician Dr. Josh Pearson, who only obtained this position when his colleague passed away of an apparent heart attack. Now it's a race against time to figure out just what these two have been infected with before their symptoms quickly claim their lives.

But is it all really an elaborate assassination attempt, or it is a way to take an ailing pharmaceutical company and bring it back from the verge of going out of business by coming up with the only cure for the former president. What happens if they isn't enough of the antidote to cure them both. You might think it would be a no brainer until you realize that one is the former president and the other is the girl you have fallen in love with. Now the pressure is really on for Josh to figure out what to do as the body count begins to rise and the trail of clues begin to divide among quite a few possible theories.

I received Miracle Drug by Richard L. Mabry MD compliments of Abingdon Press and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review. Aside from a free copy of this book, I did not receive any monetary compensation and the opinions here are my own honest and personal ones. Because I have had the opportunity to read so many of Mabry's previous novels, I now automatically choose these because (1) based on his knowledge as a former physician, the medical terms and procedures will always be spot on without all the soap opera drama one might expect and (2) it will always take me to a place where you wonder just how true this could be, especially in light of the recent Ebola scare this year. It definitely gives the reader something to marinate about while you are reading this one. Most people don't have a clue to how far medical science has really advanced and the ways it can be used against others if it falls into the wrong hands. For me, another home room and a well deserved 4.5 out of 5 stars. There is a reader's discussion guide included at the conclusion as well as a sneak peek at the next novel coming out soon, Medical Judgement.

Fatal Trauma

I can't imagine anything more stressful for a ER doctor than a simple day at work. Everything changes and it truly is never the same day twice. Every patient you get into the Trauma department could be that patients final chance at life, and it all rests in your hands. But what if your typical day at the office was interrupted by an armed gunman who brought you a patient bleeding out. His request, if you don't save him, you all will die one by one. Definitely not what you dreamed would happen when you arrived for work today, but such is the premise behind Richard L. Mabry's latest suspense novel Fatal Trauma.

I have absolutely LOVED every single novel Richard L. Mabry has written because to truly appreciate any medical suspense novel, you have to have a working knowledge of what it takes to be a doctor working in a hospital and the terminology and procedures have to line up correctly to be believable, and thankfully due to being a retired physician, this comes across beautifully in all his novels.

Dr. Mark Baker is attempting to keep a handle on things when the armed man holds a gun, to ER nurse, Kelly Atkinson's head. Unless they can save the unconscious man in the wheelchair, more people will die beginning with Kelly. Just how does someone save a man who clearly appears to be dead while waiting for the possibility of help to arrive? How do you distract an armed gunman who seems to be drug induced? Will there be a possible future for Mark and Kelly if they can find a way out of what has walked into their ER tonight? You'll have to pick this one up to find out!

I received Fatal Trauma by Richard L. Mabry M.D. compliments of Abingdon Press and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review outside the complimentary copy of the novel and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This novel is definitely adrenaline filled. From the first chapter, readers are thrust into a situation one hopes never happens in real life and as the body count begins to rise, you wonder how it will all turn out. My favorite part about this novel is the authentic medical descriptions that move the story along. You can tell its genuine because of the author's background in the medical field and for me, this is why I love any of Richard L.Mabry's novels. He takes you someplace you could have never imagined happening to people in the medical field, but there is always that possibility. For me, this one rocks the suspense at a full 5 out of 5 stars! Readers even get a sneak peek at the next novel, Miracle Drug coming out soon. A reader's discussion guide is also included.

Critical Condition

"The valet parking attendant assisted Shannon Fraiser from the car, and she pulled her sweater tighter around her against the gusty autumn wind. "Todd, this place looks expensive."

Todd Richardson made his way around the car and took Shannon's hand. "Yes, but I hear the food's wonderful."

As they walked down the canopied sidewalk toward the leaded glass doors, Shannon said, "But if it's too expensive..."

Todd grinned at her. He shook his head and a few strands of dark hair dropped onto his forehead. "Don't worry. I can handle it." The grin became a smile, and Shannon's heart rate sped up, as it always did. "I just got a nice promotion, with a significant boost in salary. On the other hand, you're not going to be earning anything until you get out of medical school. You deserve something nice every once in a while.

"I'm proud of you for getting the promotion," Shannon said. "And the bigger salary would be nice if..." She let the words trail off. When Todd was ready to ask the question that was on both their minds, he would. Meanwhile, she'd just enjoy tonight.

Todd seemed to read her mind. "I know what you're thinking." Todd said. "We can talk about it -"

Shannon felt a tug on her arm a split second after she heard the gunshot. She felt, more than she saw, Todd crumple to the ground beside her. When she looked down, he lay on his side, eyes wide, a stunned expression on his face. His lips barely parted as he whispered, "Help me." (excerpt from Critical Condition)

In the latest medical suspense thriller, Critical Condition, by Richard L. Mabry, MD, Shannon Fraiser, is about to put it all on the line to salvage a career in medicine. When a man is subsequently shot on her front line much in the same way as Todd, she begins to wonder if there isn't a possible link in the two similar shootings. Just when she is on the border of dealing with this, her sister Megan calls looking for a last minute place to stay now that her boyfriend has been stealing her pharmaceutical drug samples and has left her without a job. The final straw comes in how well Shannon is able to deal with crisis is when her father is diagnosed with cancer and her boyfriend wants to understand why she can't commit to marriage. The story is about to get more interesting than she could ever begin to imagine and life may never be the same again.

I received Critical Condition by Richard L. Mabry compliments of Litfuse Publicity and Thomas Nelson Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own unless otherwise noted. I love every novel that Mr. Mabry has published because it utilizes his experience as a medical physician to keep the story captivating, on the edge of your seat and turning pages faster than you ever thought possible with just the right blend of suspense. Once again I believe he has hit a home room with this one and easily rates a 5 out of 5 in my book. This one even comes with a discussion guide at the end that is perfect for book clubs!

Stress Test

What would you do if while walking to your car after a long night at work, you suddenly found yourself being beaten and thrown in the trunk of your own car? What if you managed to escape only to find yourself waking up in a hospital accused of a murder, you are quite certain you didn't commit? What if all the evidence seemed to point to you and everything you claim had happened, can't be proven?

Welcome to the life of Dr. Matt Newman! He was about to begin a new job as assistant professor of surgery at Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and give up his private practice. He was in a thriving relationship with Jennifer who worked for the District Attorney and was making plans to marry her and begin a family. Just when it all seemed like everything was going his way, he found himself being kidnapped and the last words he recalled hearing before being thrown in the trunk of his own car was "Get rid of him."

Matt did what he had to before they were able to follow through with his plans and managed to escape into a dark alley. When his captors finally gave up trying to find him, he managed to fall off a pile of pallets and wound up in the hospital with a head injury that required surgery. It's when he woke up that life changed in an instant. Suddenly the police were there asking him about a body they found in the trunk of his car along with his wallet. Despite Matt's pleas for innocence, the police believed they had an iron clad open and shut case against Matt for the murder of one of his colleagues. They informed him that he might want to obtain a lawyer.

Sandra Murray considered herself one of the best criminal defense lawyers now they she branched out and formed her own practice. When she received Matt's call from the hospital, something told her that despite all the evidence piling up against him, he might just be innocent. Knowing that everyone deserves a chance at being represented, she agrees to take the case and before long, it seems as if Sandra is finding a hard time, believing that Matt didn't commit murder based on the evidence that keeps working against him. No matter what he claims, there is no proof that anything Matt claims really happened to him.

In the novel Stress Test by Dr. Richard L. Marby, M.D., the author once more takes the readers through the world of medicine to an intense thriller when Matt is wanted for murder. All of those around him, suddenly wonder if he is really innocent. His girlfriend fears that being associated with a possible murder suspect will put her own career at the District Attorney's office at risk, his future job is placed on hold until Matt's case is resolved which means he is literally out of a job with no viable way to pay for a defense attorney. What is even worse is that the people who are out to kill him are still out there and soon Matt learns that he is the next victim. They won't be allowed to let him escape again.

I received Stress Test by Dr. Richard L. Marby, M.D. compliments of Thomas Nelson Publishers and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review and received no monetary compensation for a favorable one. This is the second book, I've had the opportunity to review one of his fictional novels and LOVE every single minute. It is heart-stopping and adrenaline rushing excitement from the very first page. While you have a guess at what could be going on, you won't believe the unbelievable ending. For those that LOVE a bit of medical drama along with a touch of romance and suspense, you'll definitely want to pick this one up. It's definitely a 5 out of 5 star winner and I literally stayed up too late to finish it. I just had to know how it ended. I couldn't wait for morning.

When Chelsea shows up with paralysis weeks later, Sara soon discovers that she may have just administered a lethal remedy instead.

In the medical suspense thriller, Lethal Remedy by Richard L. Mabry, MD, the reader is taken into the dark world of the clinical trials for a pharmaceutical company that will stop at nothing to make sure this drug is approved and ready for sale. I LOVED this book and being a fan of medical mysteries, this one had me on the edge of my seat and questioned just how safe are the drugs we take on faith today. What would happen if this occurred today? I rate this one a hands down 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait to read more by Richard Mabry in the Prescription for Trouble series. I received this Kindle edition compliments of Abingdon Press and NetGalley for my honest review.
