The Engagement Plot

I don't think there isn't one person who doesn't know about online dating reality shows like the Bachelor or the Bachelorette. Where an eligible person tries to find the perfect person among a host of suitable candidates and hopefully a happily ever after will ensue. Fans of such shows will love Krista Phillips new novel, The Engagement Plot. Here we have a similar premise as the setting for our novel, with the reality show named The Price for Love and instead of the infamous red roses, the contestants receive gold coins with hearts verifying their commitment to find true love. Everything appeared to be going well for the final two, with most of the audience rooting for an all around honest church loving girl, they aptly named Holy Hanna, after Hanna Knight, the one woman who vowed to keep her integrity and morals intact despite all the pressure to bend to the viewing audience. She was the one, the upstanding CEO and eligible bachelor William Preston asked to marry him.

Only while Hanna was busy making wedding plans in her mind during the two month hiatus that they were instructed to have no contact with one another expect for an off-camera date, while the show wrapped up for the final unveiling. Hanna was hoping she had found the right man, when in reality, when it came to push the shows ratings as well as his own status in the company, Will led both the show's host and viewing audience to believe that Hanna had compromised all her moral beliefs for a quick weekend away with him. That was the end of the relationship and the end of Hanna's heart. She vowed to find some way to look for how she could have been so easily misled by Will. It cost her almost everything and now her reputation has been in ruins no matter how Hanna might have tried to salvage it.

So now, while avoiding reporters, she has moved back home with her father in Minnesota heading home in the midst of what is turning out to be one of the worst blizzards in history and finds a car trapped in a snowbank. She knows that no one will be out here for hours and her father wouldn't even leave a person stranded. What she didn't expect to find was Will Preston stuck in the snowbank almost freezing to death. While she is more than tempted to leave him there, she knows she can't in good faith no matter what he has done to her in the past. That was not how she was raised and now, she is stuck bringing him home back to her fathers house and undoubtedly hoping the storm might be delayed until he can get on his way to wherever he was headed. Only for now, she will have to deal with all the pain she thought she put behind her again.

I received The Engagement Plot by Krista Phillips compliments of Barbour Publishing and NetGalley. This is such a great story because you only know it's going to get better the further you get into the book and at each crossroads it appears as if God has other plans in store for the two to be reunited again. Can she risk her heart again for the second time? Has Will Preston truly changed? Or does he have another motive behind his visit? You'll just have to pick this one up to find out. I thoroughly enjoyed it and easily give this one a 5 out of 5 stars. This would make a great Hallmark Channel movie!

Raptor 6

Captain Dean Watters made a vow that he would remained 100% dedicated to his team and not allow himself to get emotionally involved with anyone. It would be better this way, especially now that he was carrying the guilt for doing just the opposite with him that weighed on his heart more than the weapons and pack he carried into his missions. What he wasn't planning on was his heart following its own path when an American missionary teacher, Zahrah Zarrick, witnesses someone she wasn't supposed to see when her school is bombed. But there is simply more to her than simply being an attractive woman. Her file doesn't provide the missing clues that his superiors expect him to find on his own and the longer it takes the more danger she will be in.

To make matters even worse is the fact she is also the daughter of a four star retired general who will make sure that Dean will serve in the most isolated and desolated places on earth is any harm comes to her. Zahrah is torn between wanting to convey all her secrets to Dean but the strict religious and cultural upbringing of her family forbid her to be alone with any man. All she knows is that with the bombing of her school, she will have no where to teach the young girls who want an education. She just didn't expect to lose one to Taliban terrorists who are stealing military computers in order to gain top level secrets that will expose men like Dean to the terrorist organization. All they need now is the perfect hacker to break the codes that will expose the military best kept secrets, codes, and organizations without destroying the computers.

While Dean attempts to convince Zahrah to leave the county and head back to the United States, she lets him know she is here on a mission from God and when He tells her it's time to leave than she will. What she doesn't realize is just how much danger she is truly in and what terrorists will do to a woman who refuses to cooperate. But will Dean and his team known simply as Raptor 6, be able to locate the missing computers in time or will he be faced to revisit his haunted past that will put him to the ultimate test of his own faith and endurance once again?

I received Raptor 6 by best selling author Ronie Kendig compliments of Shiloh Publishing and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review. I did not any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions here are strictly my own. This is the first novel in The Quiet Professionals Series, and I can't wait for the next one. Before you begin this novel, a warning! You won't be able to put it down once you start, so you need to set aside some time where you won't be disturbed. Chores won't get done, dinner will be late, and the phone will have to wait until you get to the last page. The action is fast paced and does not stop until the final page, leaving you breathless wondering how it will all play out. For me, personally, this is one of Ronie's best novels to date and I can't wait to go back on tour with the Raptor 6 team! Hands down a well earned 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion and a MUST READ for fans of Special Forces fiction!!! I can only pray someone will make a movie out of this novel!

Simple Faith

If you have followed my book reviews for any length of time, then you know I am a huge WWII fan of both historical fiction and non fiction books. I am so thrilled I got the opportunity to review Anna Schmidt's novel, Simple Faith, the second novel in the Peacemakers Series. In this one she utilizes the true story of a group of German medical students who banded together in what came to be known as the White Rose to speak out against Hitler and the Nazis.

The journey of the characters of Anja and Josef and Beth take in this novel is set against the background of historical fact. Amazingly, during World War II there were several so-called escape lines managed by brave local citizens of countries occupied by the Nazis. Like those who worked on the Underground Railroad, these individuals - at considerable risk to their own lives and safety - provided false papers, safe houses, food, shelter, and clothing to move Allied airmen from the site of their downed planes behind enemy lines across much of Europe until they could reach Gibraltar - a British territory - and move from there back to England. They traveled hundreds, even thousands of miles by train, bicycle, or on foot, and perhaps the most amazing piece of this story is that the best known of these escape lines - the Comet Line - was created and manage by a young woman.

This is the story of Second Lieutenant Peter Trent who was shot down while attempting to escape a fire in his bomber that was activated by a photoflash bomb and thus requiring an immediate evacuation of the plane. This was not before being shot in the leg and as he tries to remember all his survival training tips as he parachutes into Belgium in November of 1943, he only hopes he can make it out alive along with the five other crewmen who jumped with him. But for now with being shot in the leg, he can only hope that a "friendly" comes to rescue him before the Nazi Gestapos do.

What Peter does discover is a band of people who are willing to risk their lives and those of their children to make sure that he finds his way back home instead of being shot or captured by the Nazi's. Peter and Anja are about to embark on a life changing journey that will do more than test their survival skills but also test their faith in God along the way.

I received Simple Faith by Anna Schmidt compliments of Shiloh Publishing and Pump Up Your Book Tours for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained in this review are strictly my own unless otherwise noted. For me, this one was aspect of the war, I have never heard about until picking up Anna's novel. I can't imagine how difficult it would be the not only find an Allied airmen, but to risk their own personal safety against being arrested or killed while trying to get him home while the Nazis continually searched for these men. Knowing their plane was shot down, it only seems logical that they would search nearby farms, homes and businesses looking for people who were willing to hide them. Almost like what countries did during the Holocaust to hide the Jews who were being shipped off into concentration camps. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the research that went into the creation of this amazing novel and can easily give this one a 5 out of 5 stars. I look forward to picking up the first novel in this series, to see how Anja escaped the Nazi death camp in All God's Children.
