Fallen From Babel

An ancient tower. A future evil. A skeptic trapped between.

At the touch of an ancient vase...he is sent back to Babylon.

Peter Thornton doesn't believe in God. Or rather, he doesn't believe in one God. " All paths are valid," he teaches his university students. One evening he ventures to the archaeology museum and touches an artifact recently unearthed from ancient Babylon.

At the touch he is transported three thousand years back in time to Old Testament Babylon. Somehow he knows the language - and the people know him as Rim-Sin, sorcerer and high priest to the gods of Babylon. The moment he arrives he is accused of murder - a murder Rim-Sin committed - and he must run for his life.

Against the backdrop of Nebuchadnezzar's court at its zenith, he and rival sorcerers vie with Belteshazzar, the Jewish upstart, for the King's favor. As Peter scrambles to get back to the twenty-first century, he encounters a lovely young woman who has some disturbingly powerful arguments about the God of the Bible.

Peter won't get home until he has fallen from his pride. Fallen from his polytheism. Fallen from Babel.

About the Author:

T.L. Higley earned a degree in English Literature at Rowan University in New Jersey. Higley, who has a lifelong interest in history and mythology seeks to shine the light of the gospel into the cultures of the past. You can learn more about her at her website by clicking here.

My Review:

Being a huge history buff and child of the King, I was drawn to this story after Higley made me a fan of hers after reading Petra, City of Stone, and City of the Dead. Her uncanny ability to transport the reader back in time, is extraordinary. Her characters are well thought out and believable and her historical research is beyond measure. You are living in Ancient Babylon the first moment you grasp the pages. You are drawn into the story yourself and wonder how will Peter return.

Not only at the moment he is transported, he finds himself over the body of a dead Jewish man, but he himself has blood on his hands. Now he does what we all would do and runs! Hiding from the King as one of his diviners, he must find a way back home, back to the world he once knew. He tries to reason with himself that he is there for a reason, perhaps a way to convert people into accepting all beliefs, but when he comes face to face with Belteshazzar, otherwise known as Daniel by his Jewish name, who will interpret his dream and tell him why he is really here as a message from God himself.

I received this book compliments of T. L. Higley for my honest review and once more she has captivated me and drawn me back in time. Once again she did not disappoint me. This book rates a 5 out of 5 stars for my virtual journey back to ancient Babylon and back into biblical history.

City of the Dead

Deep in the heart of Egypt where the worship of the gods of Ra and Osiris is common practice, murders are happening. In the wake of the discovery of the body, a golden death mask is being left behind on the victim. The people being murdered are the high ranking official of Pharaoh, Mentu who was in charge of building Khufu's giant pyramid and then the Queen herself, Merit.

The Grand Vizier, Hemiunu, wants to find out just who the killer is and have them brought to justice, but the Pharaoh wants to make sure that the pyramid project remains on target as well as having the Queen's pyramid finished before the purification process on her boy is complete within 70 days. It appears his focus is abit jaded and Hemi vows that Egypt will not remain stable unless justice is served and more murders continue.

Using what little skills exist in that time frame, he begins to unwrap the details of the murders focusing on the craftsman who created the gold death masks recovered on both bodies. When he is provided with a name of someone, he believes he is one step closer, until he learns that he is dead as well.

Woven in the time of Ancient Egypt before the great pyramids are finished, City of the Dead by T.L. Higley once more immerses the reader into a history of great riches and mystery. Captivated by the details in the story based on intense research into the burial practices to the building of the ancient pyramids themselves, we, the reader, can feel a part of what happened so many thousands of years ago and perhaps solve the mystery ourselves.

I received this Kindle edition of the book to review on my own and once more love the details as well as the characters themselves in this rich historical fiction. This is my third book by T.L. Higley and it won't be my last! I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait to read the next book in this series of the seven wonders of the ancient worlds. This is the second book in the series. This book is available on paperback and eBook formats for your reading pleasure.

For a limited time, you can get the Kindle edition for only $ .99. For more information on the author, the books or where to get a glimpse into the chapters of these books, click on the links below:

Pompeii: City On Fire - Giveaway and Review

Gnaeus Nigidius Mauis. Just the name within the walled city of Pompeii is enough for any of it's citizens to cringe with fear. Being the duovir, or ruling politician of the city, he has gained his popularity not on the merits of good leadership, but through fear and intimidation of it's citizens. Those willing to pay a small fee will earn the protection from his guards, those that don't will find themselves bound within the prisons that lie underneath the city.

Quintus Portius Cato wants to make a fresh start in Pompeii making wine, some of the finest ever produced. After leaving a life of politics, he has come here in hopes of finding a wife and starting a business to support his family. However, when Mauis shows up unannounced at his shop, he makes his lustful desires known to Cato's sister Portia. Cato soon realizes that in order to make it here, he will either need to submit to the power of Mauis or become the new duovir in the upcoming election.

Ariella has been a survivor since the fall of Rome where she lost all of her family except for her brother Micah. Yet in a rush to leave the burning city, they become separated and Ariella finds herself a slave in more ways than one to her master, Valerius. She makes a valiant escape one night, cuts off her long hair and blends in with a troupe of gladiators heading to Pompeii. She believes that at least this way she can control her own destiny somewhat even if it means living her life disguised as a young boy.

In the latest novel by T.L. Higley, Pompeii: City on Fire, the historical novel is set among the backdrop of the infamous city of Pompeii before the mountain will explode. We get to see what life may have been like through the characters of Ariella, a slave/gladiator and Cato, a man of morals who has a destiny that God will guide him towards. How will their lives be joined together as the defeat the evils that run unchecked within the city walls controlled by Mauis and how will God unite them for His greater good.

I received this wonderful book compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and LOVED it. Being a huge fan of ancient history I was immediately drawn to the two paralleled lives of the Jewish slave and the powerful Roman. This one rates a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait to read more of Higley's historical novel. This is my second, after reading Petra: City of Stone and thoroughly enjoyed that one as well.

Petra City of Stone

Cassia never imagined how her life would turn out once she headed to the ancient city of Petra. She was returning there to her husband's family after he was tragically murdered in their home. Not sure just who they are, she enters the city among a caravan of merchants in search of a family she has never met and one her husband didn't speak of.

As night falls Cassia and her son, Alexander are assaulted and robbed leaving Cassia with nothing but their scattered articles while she lays unconscious. When an old man by the name of Malik offers her a safe haven and miraculous healing, she feels strangely at ease among the strangers.

What she learns at Malik's is that Alexander is the prince of the royal family and heir to the aging king of Petra. Relieved at the hope that they will rejoice in the reuniting of grandfather and grandson, she is about to face the worst evil and darkness known to man. The current Queen isn't about to give up her son's rightful place now that Alexander is brought before her and when she takes Alexander into the palace and has Cassia thrown out, all hope is lost.

Will Cassia be able to retrieve her son? What will she do now that she has no family in Petra? What darkness will attempt to reach out and keep the city in shadows while The Way moves in? Find out in the latest book by T.L. Higley, in Petra, City of Stone.

I received the eBook reader edition of this book, compliments of NetGalley and B & H Publishing Group for my honest review and LOVED it. The best part of the book is living in the times of the Ancient Egyptians and Romans and seeing just how difficult life was like. Not only that, seeing the pictures of the real city of Petra inspired me to imagine just what this story would be like during that time frame in a true spiritual warfare between good versus evil in the days where Christian were thrown to the lions. This book rates a 5 out of 5 stars for its historical accuracy to detail and in creating a very believable Christian fiction tale.
