Family Honor Plate

In this day in age, with technology looming always nearby, it is sad to see that many families are spending more time online than with those in the present time. In fact, I see a trend that will continue to widen the gap unless family gather together and work on keeping things face to face and keeping traditions alive within the family, even if separated by the miles. Family Honor Plate and Table Thyme Discussion Questions are just the perfect thing to begin around the dinner table whether on that Sunday dinner, a special holiday, or simply whenever you can get together to enjoy a technology free moment.

The Family Honor Plate is a ceramic honor plate based on the Fruits of the Spirit found in the Bible under Galatians 5:22. To take those reminders a step further, the entire family can join in and create an honor plate. You simply paint it with the paints provided in the kit and bake it, and finding ways to incorporate it into your family dinners. It might be to place special emphasis on something a child or family member received, great grades, a special recognition at school or work, perhaps a dance recital or role in a school play. Your family decides how they want to incorporate the family Honor Plate. My family and I are so scattered throughout the country, we can agree that Christmas is the time when we all get together. So we designed our plate around that time, since my family now has their own families they are beginning.

We decided on Christmas dinner, that the recipient that receives the honor plate doesn't have to clean up after dinner, and they get a $15.00 gift card of their choice. The person doesn't know that they are the special guest until they look underneath their plate and see that they have been selected to be the guest of honor at our family dinner table. We have found a way to use the discussion questions included with the Table Thyme Discussion Questions. When we are on the phone with one another, we simply select a topic or question at random to generate more than the simple, how are you doing call. It allows to connect on much deeper levels in communication. We have also decided that throughout the year, the Family Honor Plate will be mailed out to the next family member to use until they bring it back at Christmas time allowing them to begin to expand the tradition in their own homes with family and friends.

I received the Family Honor Plate and Table Thyme Discussion Questions compliments of FlyBy Promotions and Honor Plate. This is just a reminder of how traditions are created and implemented within our families. It begins with an idea of finding ways to keep the family close and I can't think of a better way to do just that. The company is even offering you a 20% discount on your order, so why not find a way to put technology down and keep the family close and focused on what is really important and that is what is right in front of you. I easily give this a 5 out of 5 stars.

Nichole Nordeman - Every Mile Mattered CD Review and Giveaway

I can honestly say, I hadn't heard of Nichole Nordeman until I listened to her latest CD, Every Mile Mattered and I fell in love with so many of her songs. It's not just the words of the songs, but for me there has to be something different from the other songs we hear on the radio to make me a true lover of the artist and I found it in this latest CD.

There are 11 songs on this CD: (1) Every Mile Mattered, (2) You're Here, (3) Dear Me, (4) No Longer, (5) Lean, (6) Hush, Hush, (7) Listen to Your Life, (8) Beautiful Day, (9) Sound of Surviving, (10) Anywhere We Are, and (11) Slow Down.

The ones that really connected with me are Every Mile Mattered, You're Here and my all time favorite on this CD is Hush, Hush! Although I love them all, those three speak to a place in my life that God and I connect on a different level I can't explain. I can't wait to hear what your favorite songs are!

"These are songs that Nichole has been in her heart for years, long before they were bound by lyric or melody. They are mile markers. Places I've been. Things I have seen and maybe see a little differently now. Every mile on that road mattered. The endless miles of God's mercy and goodness. Every bump and bruise. The long stretches I'd rather erase. The journey really does change us, or should, anyway."

I think that is reason why I connected to so many of these songs. We are all on our own personal journeys, some we wished we could have taken a detour and wished God would have given us a "Dead End" sign so we could have avoided some of the issues we have faced. But they make us all unique, strong in our own ways, and they unite us. They are things we can all relate to in this road called life until God calls us home. I can tell you that you will find something in this CD that will speak to your heart and soul, whether by words, melody or simply the way God touches your soul when you hear a particular song on this CD.

I received Every Mile Mattered by Nichole Nordeman compliments of Capital Records and FlyBy Promotions. The lyrics are provided in this CD as well for those of you that love to know the words so you can enjoy your music even more!!! I easily give this one a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Touching Heaven

"Every human is guaranteed a forever; it's just a matter of where "forever" will be spent."

Scripture says, "People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27-28). The ungodly, the rebellious "will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life" (Matthew 25:46 NASB).

"There are no ordinary people," C.S. Lewis reminded us; everyone we see, meet or know is an immortal being, destined to live our eternity in Satan's realm or God's." I've heard Reinhard Bonnke say, "The border to eternity runs parallel to this life and is just one step away. It may be crossed over any time by anybody." The question is" What are we going to do with that? We have a choice to make.

"Depending on which side of eternity's question you take, death is either dreadful or desirable; the greatest loss or the consummate gain. Charles Spurgeon preached, "Death to the wicked is the King of terrors. Death to the saint is the end of terrors, the commencement of glory." No one can anticipate advantage, benefit, profit in death - except for the Christian. If we don't live for Christ, dying means hell."(pg 110).

In his latest book, Touching Heaven: A Cardiologist's Encounters with Death and Living Proof of an Afterlife, Dr. Chauncey Crandall shares his many years of witnessing healing, loss of life including his own teenage son, and resurrections of many of his patients that he now prays for all of his patients as part of his practice and God has come through and shown him so much, he can no longer deny that God is real, and heaven is an eternal realm that goes beyond our senses. He has observed that when people are dying, they either register frightful reactions, including shock, torment or despair...or they reveal peaceful reactions such as calm and restfulness. There is almost never a middle ground - it is one extreme or the other, regardless of their symptoms or medication. He shares some of these first hand accounts that help him confirm that heaven does exist for those who believe in Jesus and hell awaits those who don't.

I received Touching Heaven by Dr. Chauncey Crandall compliments of Faith Words, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the book, in exchange for my fair and unbiased personal opinion. What I love are the stories of what he experienced as well as those of his patients, all coupled around what the Bible says about heaven, God and what believers can experience in their faith through Christ. There are scriptures referenced throughout to back up the claims of what he or his patients observed as well as Bible verses to conclude each chapter. I have no doubt that what he has seen and witness is true and look forward to the day when I too, step into my eternal life in heaven one day. This is a true testimony of the power of faith and what a life with Jesus awaits those who breathe our life. It also gives hope to those dealing with their own grief and loss until we are reunited one day in our eternal home. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Phil Wickham - Children of God CD Review

I have been a huge fan of Phil Wickham's music for quite some time. I've had the privilege of being able to see him live in concert both at my church and at the Harvest Crusade in 2013. His music just moves you in such a way and what I find contagious about Phil Wickham is his undying love for Jesus Christ. It comes through in not only his music, lyrics but in his performance, Now I have the unique opportunity to be able to review his latest CD, Children of God. Even before I had the chance to listen to the entire CD, I fell in love with one of the songs from that track, Your Love Awakens Me, which is rising to the top of the Christian music charts!

Children of God contains 12 songs and truly contains exactly what one would expect to find, devotional songs of mighty worship and praise that will last long after you stop the final song. They are what I call worm songs or soul songs. Ones you find yourself singing when there is no music and that is part of the power and conviction of Phil Wickham's music.

1. Doxology/Amen -  is a worship song that defines the purpose of praise and worship music, that are prayers to Jesus Christ.

2. Better Than Life - will be just like what This is Amazing Grace was to Phil's previous album on this one! Definitely upbeat worship song!

3. Your Love Awakens Me - conveys the sense of what it is like for a believer of Christ to experience God's love in their life. It creates an awakening in their soul. This is such a catchy song and one I know you will absolutely love!

4. The Secret Place - features Madison Cunningham, talks about what its like when we experience God in our hearts. Its a place others can't see, but we can certainly feel. More like a worship song.

5. Wide Awake - Not one of my favorites on this one, but still an uplifting worship song.

6. My All in All - Speaks of the great love and presence of Jesus Christ, who is the stream of life and victor in any battle we face. A definite battle-worthy song!

7. Starmaker (High Above the Earth) - Definitely a worship song of our dedication for the salvation that Jesus Christ alone offers. I can this one being incorporated by churches as part of their praise and worship service!

8.  Children of God - Another great praise song. It conveys a song about whom children of God are in Christ. We are more than warriors, but children of God.

9. Stand in Awe - Another powerful praise song, that takes what a believer feels for God, and puts it not only in song, but in a prayer to our Heavenly Father!

10. Body Mind and Soul - another praise song, that conveys in the heart of the believer what where our praise and worship comes from, body, mind and soul.

11. As It Is In Heaven - a great song that comes off more like a prayer set to music.

12. Spirit of God - Speaks of our longing for the Spirit of God to have His in our life.

I received Phil Wickham's Children of God compliments of Fair Trade LLC and Propeller LLC for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside for a copy of this DVD in exchange for my personal and honest evaluation. Phil Wickham just has one of those amazing voices you can recognize the moment you hear him. His conviction and devotion comes across in every single song and that is what makes this such a wonderful CD a great addition to your praise and worship music library. This is his first album in three years, for in 2014 Phil Wickham didn't know whether or not he'd ever be able to sing again. He had vocal polyp, a small lesion on his vocal cords, and while doctors could remove it, the outcome would be up to God. Thankfully, we serve an amazing Healer and Creator and Phil is back once again. These are the songs of the reawakened heart, and his passion and love for God come through on every single song. For me, this rates a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The lyrics are not provided in the CD but you can find them by visiting philwickham.com.

ESV Men's Devotional Bible - Giveaway and Review

Our world presents daily distractions that can easily displace Christ as the center of a man's heart and life. The goal of the ESV Men's Devotional Bible is to strengthen and encourage men through the life-giving Word of God and sound devotional content aimed at nurturing godliness. With 365 theologically rich and gospel-centered devotions drawn directly from the Bible, this all-new resource was created under the editorial oversight of Dr. Sam Storms with contributions from over fifty Christian leaders. Introductions orient men to each book of the Bible, exploring its unique contribution to a man's walk with God. Thoughtful and instructive articles address the importance of sound doctrine, life in the local church, leadership, the heart, calling and a host of other relevant issues for today. The Men's Devotional Bible will strengthen men in their walk with Christ, helping them apply the gospel and the truth of God's Word in their homes, churches and workplaces. (back cover).

The biggest challenge facing men today is that they have been called and set apart by God to be leaders that in a sense report directly to God. This does not mean that they are called to dominate those underneath them but to care and love them as much as Jesus did for His church, the body of believers. Men face challenges of leading a home, being the counselor of sorts for his wife and his children, to lead a moral and ethical life in their workplaces and to help spread the gospel to the world through our daily interactions with others. This does not mean men aren't perfect and go through their own struggles and challenges as well.

The ESV Men's Devotional Bible is a two-fold resource. First and foremost it is the Word of God designed to provide the truth that men can rely on to help in their spiritual and leadership walks with God and those in their life. Along with that are 365 devotionals sprinkled throughout God's Word that men can pick up and read in any order or simply follow the guide at the conclusion of each devotional to know where to find the next one. They are designed to encourage you in what Book your are reading to help guide you in your understanding of what is taking place. These are designed as well to help you apply what you are reading to what is happening in your life today. This is my favorite aspect of this Bible, because besides reading it and looking for God's inspiration in the text but also how we can apply things from the Old Testament into our present days lives and the subjects that are likely to come up in every day situations like why is going to church important, understanding the implications of pornography, understanding a mans identify, a man's work, dealing with doubt, communion with God, singleness, marriage and fathering.

I received the ESV Men's Devotional Bible by Crossway Publishers and Propeller LLC for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside from a free copy of this Bible, in exchange for my honest review. I had my husband actually write the review listed above so that you got a man's opinion of the Bible instead of my own. It is such a wonderful addition to our home and one that my husband can utilize when He is traveling on business. It is a hard cover, black letter text with an 8.5 font type and includes a dictionary of key terms. In his opinion, he easily rates this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The only reason from not providing it a true 5 out of 5 stars is he would have liked to have a red-letter edition so the Words of Jesus truly stand apart from the remainder of the text in the New Testament.

NIV Bible for Teen Girls - Review and Giveaway

There are a lot of things that teen girls from the ages of 13 to 18 have to deal with in their lives, beside processing through hormonal changes, peer pressure, dating and interests in boys, to handling making the transition from teen to adult as well. They harbor their own unique challenges and thus there is nothing too big that God can't help them with. That is the first place as parents, we would expect our teens would turn aside from their parents on how to deal with the challenges life brings, we want them to turn to the One who created them to be just as unique as our teen daughters are!

The NIV Bible for Teen Girls: Growing in Faith, Hope and Love has been designed uniquely for teen girls 13-18 and is packed with daily readings, highlighted promises of God, challenging insights, smart advice and open discussions about the realities of life. This Bible is designed to help teen girls grow in their own spiritual walk in faith, hope and love. It is as sincere about a teen girl's walk with God as they are, helping them discover His will for all areas of their life, including relating to their family, dealing with friends, work, sports, guys, and so much more.

What the NIV Bible for Teen Girls offers inside include: Daily Readings by popular Christian female authors including Bethany Hamilton (Soul Surfer), Annie Downs, Christine Caine, Nicole Wider, Else Kok Colopy, Crystal Kirgiss, Bekah Hamrick Martin, Denise Van Eck and more. Character Profiles of women in the Bible; Book Introductions for each book of the Bible; Highlighted Promises of God are verses worth remembering; a Concordance for help in finding verses and the NIV, New International Version is the best selling version of the Bible.

When I presented this to my own 16-year-old daughter, she immediately LOVED the cover. It's definitely feminine without being overly childish, the colors are appealing and she loved that along with her Bible, the font size is perfect. In fact the teen Bible she had before, is now replaced by this one which is her preference. The daily readings are listed at the back of the Bible and are listed by the topic instead of the individual authors, so if your teen is struggling in a particular area in her life, she can find a resource from a strong Christian role model along with the applicable Bible verses in that section. The only thing I wish they would have included would have been the authors names along with that, so if she wanted to search for articles by Bethany Hamilton, she wouldn't have to search for it through each of the daily readings. I would have also loved for it to include Jesus' words in a different color to really set that apart from the rest of the text for importance.

I received the NIV Bible for Teen Girls: Growing in Faith, Hope and Love compliments of Zondervan Publishers and Propeller for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the Bible to review, and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. Aside from the recommendations I have listed above, this is a great teen Bible for girls. Some of the best parts of our families devotional time is when my daughter will add something that is on the particular page of her Bible we are studying and it opens up a great discussion point for us with her like peer pressure or dealing with some things teens face but might not know how to approach them with their parents. This is how it has worked for us when she reads them to us and we can talk about them openly. I think that is how this Bible was designed to keep the lines between parents and teens wide open. For us, this one rates a 4 out of 5 in our opinion.

Now for the best part, thanks the generosity of Zondervan Publishers and Propeller, they are offering a giveaway of this Bible to one lucky reader: Here are your guidelines to enter and it's a bit different than what I normally offer since I am opening this up to both my blogging and social media readers.

1. Be a follower of my blog, Reviews From the Heart or my Facebook page, Reviews From The Heart. If you are both...2 entries, 1 for each site.

2. Leave a comment on my blog for an additional entry telling me why you'd love to win a copy of this Bible. Don't forget to include your email address, so I have a way of reaching out to you if you're the lucky winner of this giveaway. If you "share" the link on your blog, you get an additional entry.

3. Leave a comment on my social media pages, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and/or Pinterest. For each comment you leave, you get an additional entry. If you share my links on your social media pages, you get 2 more entries into the giveaway. Don't forget to let me know why you'd want to win this Bible giveaway.

4. The giveaway will end on November 6th and the winner will be notified by email or instant message. You will have 72 hours to respond otherwise another winner will be drawn. Remember you can enter as many times as you'd like just make sure you meet the requirements to do so a second time.

Disclosure: This is for US or Canada only. Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising") : Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. Finding Noah - Movie Review

For over 2,000 years, man has been searching for the final resting place of Noah's Ark.  Though there have been many attempts, few have been able to fully explore the one place specifically noted in the Bible: Mount Ararat.  Located in Eastern Turkey, Agri Dagh or "The Painful Mountain" is the tallest mountain in the region and lies in the very center of a centuries old, geo-politically unstable hot spot.  With constant threats of deadly rock slides, hidden crevasses, and glacial ice falls, the Kurdish Rebel held mountain poses great risk to any explorer, let alone those performing a thorough scientific investigation.

Join director/producer Brent Baum and the FINDING NOAH film crew as they follow an expedition of intrepid explorers on a perilous trek up to Mt. Ararat's desolate summit.  There, using state of the art technology and real-time satellite imagery, this team of archeologists, scientists and professional mountaineers will begin a grid work of exploration unlike any before, hoping to finally resolve the age-old question:  did Noah and his Ark actually exist?

Shot in never-before filmed locations in the harshest of conditions, this unprecedented feature-length documentary shows just how far men are willing to go to discover the truth.  Narrated by Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise, FINDING NOAH is more than a quest for answers, it is a testament of the human spirit, where belief and the need for exploration transcend risk and limitation.

My Review:

I am a firm believer of the Bible and in the Book of Genesis, it states that the ark rested on the top of Mount Ararat when the waters began to recede after the flood. The one thing that no one can argue is that in virtually every religion and in every culture, there is a story of a great flood or deluge that covered the earth. It is also why I believe that fossils of species are found on virtually every continent despite that the environments may not have been suitable for that species. It is the only plausible answer that fits and once science will one day come to accept. In this documentary, I am in awe of the spirits of the men from various backgrounds and skills sets that have banded together using information that has been acquired for more than a hundred years in an attempt to locate any sign of Noah's ark.

I won't tell you the outcome because that would ruin it for everyone, but sometimes its the persistence and desire to locate what has been kept secret locked beneath 30 some meters of ice and glaciers in a region where the territory and rights of those that control it, have been ever changing for centuries. Now under control of the Turkish government and even then against two opposing sides, the team must gain permission to begin the climb otherwise they are fair game to those who continue to fight in that region. It is unbelievable what it takes to begin this journey and will be a huge favorite for those that love a challenge or are hard core climbers.

I received the opportunity to preview Finding Noah before it hits theaters on October 8th for one night only, compliments of Propeller LLC and 17K ASL for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review, aside from my opportunity to preview it and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. I love the background history into the cultural aspects behind trying to find the ark and what it would mean if they could find it. It goes beyond simply proving it exists, and now just need to find out precisely where it is buried. I hadn't realized that many other documentaries that have claimed they have found the ark were fakes in order to make money on their movie. For me this one rated a 4 out of 5 stars and is Dove Approved for ages 12 and up.
