A Matter of Trust

"No one in trouble should be worried about whether they deserve help. They need help, and that's the point."

For Gage Watson, a member of the PEAK Blackbear Ski Patrol, find the lost was just another day at work. Being a former national free-riding snow boarder, this was all that remained of his time as a champion. But that didn't mean that in the world of social media and YouTube, that younger adults didn't dream of following in his proverbial footsteps. With enough research, the things that Gage achieved in his former lime light, he now had to find those thrill seekers before they did something foolish and got hurt or even worse, killed. That was the past Gage was still trying to recover from. The day when Dylan was killed trying to follow in Gage's line along Outlaw Mountain. Even though he tried to dissuade this kid from trying the same thing he had success at, this time, an unfortunate avalanche claimed Dylan's life, but also the life Gage had known. Lawsuits lead to a settlement that cost him sponsorships, awards and his future as a professional snow boarder. Now he spent his hours saving those who got caught up in that fame to prevent another death from occurring if he could help it. He just never thought that Ella Blair would waltz back into his life three years later.

Ella was always trying to convince her younger brother Oliver that his need for thrills might just get himself killed. When she followed him to Montana, the last person she expected to run into was Gage Watson again. He had revoked Oliver's season pass along with his buddy Bradley who thought dressing up as an inflatable T-Rex and videotaping it was the thing to begin their own road to fame and garner some viral videos. Ella knew that Oliver wanted to try the same thing as Dylan had done but this time with success. So when she awoke the following morning and discovering that Oliver and Bradley were missing, she knew exactly where he was headed and who she needed to ask for help. The only one brave enough to find her brother especially when a blizzard was just hours away from them and they discover that a helicopter had already been charted to drop the two off at the top of the summit.

Gage knew that there was no one else to go after them but himself. He was the only one who possessed the skills needed to find two amateurs lost in Glacier National Park with a blizzard only hours away. When Ella insisted that she be allowed to accompany Gage on this mission, she knew she had to convince him to let her come. She could lose the only family she had left and the one man she loved but had never managed to tell him. She was the one responsible for taking him to court as a junior attorney working for a large firm that Dylan's family had hired. She knew that some of the evidence that was uncovered would exonerate Gage from all the charges and even if it meant losing her law license she knew she would need to tell him the truth, if he will let her come with him.

I received A Matter of Trust by Susan May Warren compliments of Baker Publishing Group and Net Galley. In accordance with the new FTC Guidelines for blogging and endorsements, you should assume that every book reviewed here at Reviews From The Heart was provided to the reviewer by the publisher, media group or the author for free and were received, unless specified otherwise. Since this is the third novel in the Montana Rescue Series, there were some back stories that I missed because I picked this one up without reading the prior novels, Wild Montana Skies and Rescue Me, but I hope to pick those up and enjoy reading it from beginning to end. As a random group of people that make up the PEAK rescue team, each of them has their own novel dedicated to their story as they weave into each consecutive one in the series. In this one, Gage and Ella get a chance to discover the true meaning of trust and also what forgiveness means if they are to have any hope of a future.

What happens when those choices go south? So often we blame ourselves or others - and maybe rightly so. But we also seem to forget that God doesn't stop loving us because we make a mistake or even a bad choice. Some people, like Ella, live their lives trying to do everything right, fearing that if they mess up, God won't like them, won't rescue them. And others like Gage, refuse to believe that God could be on their side because of their biggest failures. Lies. We can't live a life free of mistakes - they're one of our biggest tools for learning. And God lets us walk into mistakes! He warns us, yes, and suggests we stay in his line, but he not only lets us choose our line, but he stays with us if we take our own course. And helps us pick up the debris when we wipe out. Not because we're so awesome. But because He is awesome. And He loves us. Period. I easily give this a 5 out of 5 stars simply because I couldn't put it down til it was finished. Like a great piece of chocolate cake smothered in creamy frosting. It is that great and there is a fourth novel coming soon!

Chance at Loving You

When you take three very talented best-selling authors like Terri Blackstock, Candace Calvert and Susan May Warren and have them collaborate on three contemporary short romance stories and place them in one exception book, you have Chance at Loving You! This is such a beautiful collection of exceptional and heart-warming romance stories that offer the hope of redemption, the possibility of second chances and always following your heart despite the pain of the past. All of these stories do just that. This is a perfect book to pick up when you want a romance collection that will leaving you loving the stories and trying the recipes that concludes each one. Guaranteed to fill your heart and your stomach with love and culinary flavors!

Terri Blackstock takes the lead with For the Love of Money. Both Julie Sheffield, a waitress and Blake Adcock, an entrepreneur learn how difficult it can be to follow your dreams. Despite how much you might want them, God might have other ideas in mind when Blake loses everything but knows he can't stiff Julie and instead offers her an IOU along with half of a lottery ticket. Will they both win big or will money just cause more problems than either of them could possibly understand?

Candace Calvert whips up quite the delicious romance in The Recipe. Aimee Curran is about to see the reality of her dream of being a culinary winner of a vegan cooking contest when she realizes that the recipes of her mother's she had been relying on to help her win the contest, may have more to offer than the food she is trying to create and that might in fact save more than just the life of the seniors she works with. Is God cooking up something more than just food?

Finally Susan May Warren takes us for a spin with Hook, Line and Sinker which showcases Abigail Cushman and the man, Ross Springer she has always loved but never told him. Now they are faced off with a fishing challenge between their two ministry groups to see who can land the biggest catch over a three day trip. Will the odds be in her favor or does God have a bigger fish for her to catch in the process?

I received Chance of Loving You by Terri Blackstock, Candace Calvert and Susan May Warren compliments of Tyndale House Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book for my review and the opinions are strictly my own. I simply can't wait to try each of the recipes that accompany these stories that will definitely stay with you long after you finish this romance collection. These are some of my favorite books because you truly get a taste of each of these best-selling authors all tucked into one sweet romance book. Duchess

Lights. Camera. Action.  All she ever wanted was to make it big in Hollywood as an actress. In fact she even married the right man that she believe would help make it come true. Dashielle Parks had offered her the sun, the moon and the stars. When she met him in Paris, she feel head over heels in love with the possibility she might truly forget her first love and when he proposed marriage and a steady, seven-year contract with Palace Studios, she felt that she hit the jackpot. It wasn't a marriage based on love, but on business and something that was never disclosed to anyone but Rosie Worth somehow felt cheated yet she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was and soon hoped that one day, Dash might have true feelings for her like any husband would.

But as time went on, and other women turned Dash's head, she soon resolved to pour all her efforts and energy into her films. It was the golden age of film making in Hollywood and Palace Studios was working hard to keep up with the big players in the film industry, MGM and Warner Bros. Now going by the name of Roxy Price, Dash is doing everything he can to keep his head above water and hope that some day soon, they might just make a film to generate enough money to keep their business from going under. Soon Roxy learns that Dash has sold her out to another production company in order to keep Palace Studios from going under and it's there she meets a man she could truly fall head over heels in love with, if only she weren't married. But what harm would it do since no one knows about her marriage and Dash seems busy with other beautiful women and isn't committed to their marriage at all. She soon learns that the man she didn't want anything to do with so many years ago, is the same man she is falling in love with after all.

However like all good dreams, soon what goes up, must eventually come down, and so the Palace Studios does during the great stock market crash. It seems the entire facade that Dash put on display for the world to see, wasn't the true picture after all. He believed if he could invest in all the right places, soon the dividends would come through and save the struggling studio business. Since most of Rosie's movies were drawing just enough to cover expenses, he hoped that by mortgaging off their home and business might prove to be just the thing to keep them going along with the big studios. But fate can be cruel sometimes and that is just what happens when Fate shows its head in the lives of Dash and Rosie.

In the conclusion to the Daughter's of Fortune series by Susan May Warren, Duchess takes us back to the golden age of Hollywood, when actors and actresses were making movies and giving their fans a chance to escape their every day boring routines and live vicariously through the eyes of the big movie screen idols. We get to see Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Lionel Barrymore, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks through the eyes of a struggling starlet, Roxy Price or otherwise known as Rosie Worth, granddaughter to August Price, a wealthy newspaper magnate. Now that Rosie has opted to forgo her inheritance and is trying to make a go of it in Hollywood, I find it interesting the twists and turns she has to undergo to try and make it to the big screen. Susan May Warren chose to use the back story of United Artists, a movie studio formerly owned in by Hollywood icons D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, and Douglas Fairbanks as her bases for Palace Studios and I think she did an exceptional job at transporting the reader back to that golden age as movies were just beginning to evolve from silent films into talking pictures or "talkies."

I received Duchess by Susan May Warren compliments of Summerside Press and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review and received no monetary compensation for a favorable review. I LOVED this conclusion to the Daughter's of Fortune series. Being a huge fan now of classic movies, it was wonderful to see this through Rosie's eyes and get the opportunity to see this time in history with new perspective. Susan May Warren had such more direction she could have taken this final novel in the series but I love the path she so eloquently chose. I feel in love and struggled like Rosie did through her choices and got to see that for an up and coming actress the path to the big screen wasn't as easy as most dreamed it could be. If you love historical fiction dealing with the late 20's and 30's from old Hollywood, then you will LOVE this one. Even though it's written as a series, you can pick this one up and enjoy it, but you'll want to know a bit about the history Rosie had prior to her trip to Hollywood and the difficult relationship she shares with her mother, Jinx. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars. I only wish there were more to this series to look forward to with this being the conclusion.

Baroness - Plus Exclusive Giveaway

The Roaring Twenties is not all its cracked up to be, especially when you're Rosie Worth or Lilly Hoyt. While Rosie is the seemingly wild child, wanting to experience the painted faces and short bob's fashionable to the flappers, her cousin Lilly just wants to head back to the ranch she left behind in Montana and creating a haven for buffaloes.

Both Rosie and Lilly are the daughters of wealthy families and thus the need to be looked after, especially when their carefree ways take them on paths that their mothers don't desire for them. For Rosie, she falls head in heels in love with a man named Dashielle Parks, whom her mother warns isn't the man for her and isn't the marrying type. When she vows to prove her mother wrong, she soon learns that Dash isn't looking for marriage but merely a good time.

Lilly on the other hand finally finds something of an adventure in Paris when she finds herself separated following a celebrity funeral for Sarah Bernhardt. Knowing where she is likely to find her cousin Rosie, she is befriended by a handsome gentleman, named Rennie Dupre' who promises to show her the sights of Paris. None of them is quite so grand as when seen from an airplane flown by Rennie, but does he have his sights set on more than just Lilly's heart or is it Lilly's wealth that he is ultimately after?

In the latest novel following Heiress by Susan May Warren, Baroness catches up with the Daughters of Fortune series and follows the chaotic lifestyles of two young girls on the heels of trying to find something in life that makes them happy besides money. As both girls struggle to pull away from their parents strong-handed ways of finding what is best for them during this time in history, however, neither set of parents ask what the girls want, thinking they are simply to young to understand their emotions.

They do what any wealthy parents would, and threaten them not to see either of their men and whisk them back to New York, thinking that will solve this problem. It doesn't. Rosie and Lilly have a lot to learn in this coming-of-age story of two socialites trying to find their happiness and searching for love and self worth in the process. Susan gives the readers such viable characters to relate to and their journey will leave you breathless by the ending page. Thankfully there will be a sequel to pick up where this cliffhanger will leave you.

I received this book compliments of Litfuse Publicity for my honest review and LOVED it just as much as Heiress. It can be read as a stand alone but if you're looking for the back story of their moms, you'll need to pick up the first book. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait to pick up another Daughter of Fortune novel in the very near future.

The Shadow of Your Smile

The Hueston family is dealing with the loss of Kelsey, who at 17, was the victim of a robbery in which she was killed in the process. Each of them is trying to move forward but from outsiders looking in, they don't seem to be moving forward at all. More like avoiding the subject and pretending at times that it didn't really happen.

For Eli Hueston, he personally feels the responsibility of the loss as the father who should have been able to prevent this tragedy from claiming his daughter. Had he simply ran the plates of the teenager he stopped that fateful night, he would have learned that there was a Beyond On The Lookout for the boy who was speeding. Instead he simply let him off with a warning to slow down.

Noelle is dealing with the loss as only a mother can. Spending the first three months not being able to learn how to live, she dove deeper into despair and depression. Her and Kelsey shared an unbelievable closeness that really seemed like best friends and soul mates. She had a difficult time learning how to deal with things especially when Eli packed up all her stuff and moved it to storage without her knowledge. Now her and Eli have spent the last three years more apart as roommates than as husband and wife. He has been sleeping in the den and spending every available moment out fishing in the woods.

For Kyle, the oldest son, he's had to endure watching his family literally fall apart. Besides losing his only sister, he's also had to watch his parents lose sight of who they were together. Now it seems like the only thing he can do is find a way to make sure nothing like this happens while he is working for the sheriff's department again. He has moved out and is struggling with his own grief of watching his family fall to pieces and not knowing how to pull them together again. When he finds Kelsey's best friend Emma, he learns that she too is dealing with the loss of her best friend whom she feels she had a hand in killing. Had she not switched shifts with her that fateful night, Kelsey would still be here and so would her dad, the deputy that confronted the teen that night.

When an accident at a truck stop coffee stop leaves Noelle with a concussion and temporary memory loss of the last 25 years of her life, the family sees this as a way to deal with their loss again as a family in helping her to remember and in the process enabling them all to heal.

I received The Shadow of Your Smile compliments of Net Galley and Litfuse Publicity for my honest review and LOVED this one. The Shadow of Your Smile by Susan May Warren is the beautifully written story that shows how loss affects everyone not just the person who died but everyone who was connected to them. It shows how people deal with things internally instead of turning to God who can help them heal through the grieving process when they are ready. He shows that they are never alone and He can mend all things and restore broken hearts again in time, we simply have to be willing to turn to Him for help. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars!

Baby It's Cold Outside

A storm house for those of you that are not quite sure what that is, is simply a house of refuge in a storm, created when families that lived really far from the school, an hour or more, would be assigned a storm house. In the event of a storm once school was dismissed, you were to head to your storm house and wait out the storm or until your parents picked you up from there.

There hasn't been a blizzard to hit the town of Frost, Minnesota, for quite some time but in 1949, there are about to get another, and with that the basis for the novel, Baby, It's Cold Outside by Susan May Warren. Five people are about to spend Christmas snowed in and miracles are about to happen.

Dottie Morgan is the librarian for Frost, Minnesota and has in a sense isolated herself from people ever since the death of her son, Nelson in the war. She now spends her time all alone in a fairy-tale like Victorian home on the outskirts of town. Her son, Nelson's star used to top the tree in the center of town but for the last 5 years, Dottie has been unwilling to part with it, so now the tree stands decorated in lights with the exception of the tree top.

Violet Hart, has spent the last few years serving in the WAAC's during the war and now her mother firmly believes that since she can fix engines better than most men, she will spend the rest of her life alone. Little does she know, she's been writing to a service man, named Alex for over 4 years now and has even invited him to the town Christmas dance. However when she shows up at the post office, she finds her letter is stamped Return To Sender. Feeling a bit blue during this time of year, she is convinced she can get Dottie to let her use the star for the top of the Christmas tree. When she leaves the community center to head out in the storm, she is about to get more for Christmas than she ever dreamed of.

I received this book compliments of Litfuse Publicity for my honest review and LOVED it! A lot like, It's A Wonderful Life, we see how God works things that were once intended for sadness bring a whole lot of joy and love into Christmas. I would love to see this picked up and turned into a holiday classic. You see how people perceptions of others, leads them at times to think the best and the worst of some people and simply just being yourself is the best way of all! Thank you Susan for sharing this beautiful and heartwarming story with all of us. A MUST READ for Christmas, this rates 5 out of 5 stars!

Heiress

What if you could buy anything you wanted, at any time? What if you had servants to wait on your every desire...had numerous glorious homes, clothing, and jewelry...and could take extended vacations on a whim? Would you be happy? Or is there something deeper about life that money cannot buy?

Yet underneath all of that money and power lies stories of adultery, murder, embezzlement and unrest. People who will never be satisfied. People who thirst for more out of a life that has already given them "everything."

Yet the one thing they are searching for remains, because it's the one thing money can't buy and that's love. Yet they simply didn't realize that they couldn't buy it.

Set in the 1896, two Price sisters are about to experience this over the course of their lives in the novel, Heiress by Susan May Warren. Esme is the oldest, therefore, she is the one who will be promised and married into an affluent family that will only increase the financial holdings of her family as well as enlarge her influence in society circles of such elite as the Astors, Vanderbilts, Carnegies, Rockfellers, Roosevelts and JP Morgans. However Esme has no such desire for the world of the opulent and wealthy. She desires to be a journalist, speaking out against the crimes against the lower working class people in America, only women were not encouraged to share in this type of work, even though her father, newspaper magnate, August Price owns the Chronicle. Will she rebel against her families wishes for marriage or will she find her place in society after all despite her longing for love?

However, the social circles and lifestyles of the wealthy appeal to her younger sister, Jinx and she can't wait for her older sister to be married so she can be seen by the wealthy men and hopes to marry soon. When she realizes that Esme will not marry Foster Worth, a very wealthy man who has proposed to her sister, Jinx and her mother make plans for her to marry him instead. However what Jinx will get from this marriage is not what her heart longs for despite how much money Foster makes. Will she be doomed to a life in a loveless marriage where the only thing Foster wants is a heir to his families fortune?

In the novel, Heiress by Susan May Warren, the reader is in for a surprise as this is a modern day twist on the biblical story of Esau and Issac, where the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Just when one sister thinks she has it all figured out, she soon learns that that her timing would have saved her from a lifetime of mistakes and pain. This is the first book in the Daughters of Fortune series, and one I simply could not put down once I started it. After finishing it in a few hours, I was immediately sad because it was over so quickly. Yet the message behind it lingered. Too often we may think we know what's best for us, but sometimes it's much better to wait on God's timing in it all.

I received this book compliments of Litfuse Publicity for my honest review and LOVED it! This is such a powerful story of what happens when we take our lives in our own hands instead of merely waiting on God's timing. The consequences that result can be painful instead of simply being patient. A very valuable lesson and this story illustrates it well in the lives of Esme and Jinx! I rate this novel a 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend this one for a modern day parable on what happens when you take things into your own hands. This book is available in paperback formats.

My Foolish Heart

What are you afraid of? Is it that you will never find the perfect love in your life? That you'll end up less than a person? Perhaps it's that you afraid of something in your past, you don't want anyone else to know and would be devastated if anyone knew about it? Or perhaps even more, perhaps you are afraid of the person you've become after having such high hopes for yourself?

But doesn't perfect love cast out all fear?

Meet Isadora Presley or Issy as her close friends and family call her. She's the mystery voice behind the radio program, My Foolish Heart. Created to assist callers with their love life and to avoid making those heart breaking decisions that leave us crushed in the end. Only no one in her small down of Deep Haven knows she is the voice of Ms. Foolish Heart except her close friend Lucy Maguire.

Lucy's been Issy's only link to the world outside her home. Issy had witnessed her own mother's death in her arms during a traffic collision with her father and her, leaving her dealing with panic attacks. Her father now resides in a care facility that Issy is terrified to visit because it would mean leaving her home. Now she finds solace in working from home dispensing love advice to radio callers.

Caleb Knight, is the upcoming coach to the football team, if only he can prove himself worthy of bringing the team back from a losing streak. If only the war in Iraq hadn't left him with an artificial leg, he might be able to show the teams players just how to be great again. So to avoid pity from the school board and his own players, he decides to keep it to himself. What he doesn't expect is to fall for the girl next door quite literally.

In the latest novel by Susan May Warren, My Foolish Heart, takes readers intimately into the lives of four struggle residents of Deep Haven who have let fear take control of their lives. We get to see how each of them lets it take root and keep them from the greatness that lies just within their reach. We also see how God will weave His way through their lives and restore and heal them while teaching us all, that despite our fears of what has happened to us, God will use it for His Glory and His good in the end.

I received this wonderful novel compliments of Litfuse Publicity for my honest review. This book is just perfect for anyone looking for a great summer escape romance book with a unique twist of a Christian lesson in it. Never reading any books by Susan May Warren, I've been missing out. Her unique way of capturing the characters in her books, makes them believable and makes you want to become their own personal cheerleaders along the way. This one scored a 5 out of 5 stars for me and it won't be the last book I read of hers.

We also see how God will weave His way through their lives and restore and heal them while teaching us all, that despite our fears of what has happened to us, God will use it for His Glory and His good in the end.

I received this wonderful novel compliments of Tyndale House Publishers for my honest review.
