Light of the Last

I've been a huge fan of Spiritual Warfare fiction since my introduction to the genre after reading Piercing the Darkness and This Present Darkness from Frank Peretti. I know find myself drawn to any novels that pertain to the spiritual realm of angels and demons and the unseen warfare that happens all around us without being seen.

Light of the Last is the latest book in the Wars of the Realm series, by Chuck Black and is the perfect fit into the spiritual fiction novel. However since this is book 3 in the series, you must read them in order to understand where the reader will wind up in this novel. Drew Carter has been given the uncanny ability to see into the spiritual realm during an accident in college. However he doesn't understand what it is he sees since he remains unsaved and a non believer, but he knows others can't see what he can. He is also being trained in a unique way to prepare for a future battle and when his talents are put to the test, Drew comes through with flying colors until he takes down two CIA agents and winds up facing prison for the rest of his life unless he tells them what is really going on. But how can Drew really explain it when he doesn't understand what is happening.

The CIA knows the Drew could be extremely valuable to them if he is willing to undergo extensive training and work for them. His only other choice is prison for a very long time. The one condition to accepting the position of working with the CIA is he can't tell anyone he knows nor can he have any contact with them for the next 30 years. What a choice? In the spiritual realm a secret has been uncovered which will put Drew under protection of the angelic armies because if they fail, the darkness will gain a victory that will hold unprecedented consequences for both the seen and unseen world.

I received Light of the Last by Chuck Black compliments of WaterBrook Multnomah Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this novel in exchange for my personal and honest evaluation. I really loved this series and especially this novel. I hope this will not the be the last. The one thing I wish was because there is a great span of time between the release of each novel, I would love if the author would do a small recap within the storyline to refresh the minds of the readers of his subsequent novels. I do love the character list that is included at the beginning as there are quite a few to keep track of both in the seen and unseen realms of both light and darkness. For me, this one rates a 5 out of 5 stars.

Rise of the Fallen

Angels were created long before humans were and as such, they have been there to witness the creation of the world. They hold some valuable positions in the Heavenly Realm, some act as messengers like the Archangel, Gabriel, others are warriors like the Archangel, Michael and still others have found another purpose like Lucifer, once the most beautiful of all of God's created angels before he believed he was higher in authority than God and succeeded in persuading a third of the heavenly angels to follow him to the earth.

In the amazing new young adult series from Chuck Black, Wars of the Realms, Rise of the Fallen is the second book to make its way into the series. While I was anticipating a continuation of sorts from the first novel, Cloak of the Light, this was a very different sequel. In this one, Chuck takes readers back in time to the creation of the world and showcases how the rebellion of the fallen took place and how it will subsequently impact the lives of the characters we find in this series. From the initial rebellion, to the many events in history that showcase how evil has tried to take precedence over the humans God so lovingly created from that moment in the Garden of Eden with Eve, to the corruption that impacted the God's decision to cleanse the Earth with the flood.

While this is merely written from a fictional perception, Chuck references biblical facts through the use of bold text and a great reference at the conclusion of the book that highlights the biblical implications used to complete the storyline. In this novel, we see how an angel Validus who was the last created angel feels less than worthy considering his angelic role at first, not a warrior, not a messenger, he finds himself in without a place among God's elite until the fall of Lucifer. He is then assigned a role before the birth of Jesus Christ, as a warrior angel to help control the evil that is taking both human lives and angelic lives in the spiritual and physical realms. He soon finds allies with a group of angels known at the One Hundred who befriend him and make him feel like a part of God's plan. It won't be until the rebellion in Heaven when Validus will have to make up his own choice to be part of God's plan or find his calling in Lucifer's domain on earth.

The novel is written as a chronological look back into the history of earth and how evil might have played a role in being instruments of the fallen to use humans to gain an upper hand in taking over the earth. It moves slowly forward to the present where we find Validus has been assigned a new role that of an assistant guardian to watch over Drew Carter, the main character in the first novel. It is through the marriage of these two novels that the reader can see what is happening though the eyes of the angels in the spiritual world while at the same time, connecting these events to the first novel in a quick look back before the end of the book. Now the two stories are complete and can move forward to the final epic battle between good and evil in both world in the next novel in the series.

I received Rise of the Fallen by Chuck Black compliments of WaterBrook Multnomah Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. I absolutely love how Chuck decided to write this novel because there is so much information you want to pass along before you move your story forward for readers to truly understand the impact that demons and angels have in our lives as both believers and non believers in Jesus Christ. It is truly eye opening and made me really consider just how much goes on in our daily lives where we are simply unaware and just how powerful prayer really is. Now I can't wait for the next novel in this exciting new supernatural spiritual warfare series and one I can easily give a 5 out of 5 stars too!

Cloak of the Light

"It's wrong to do nothing when you have the power to do something."

This isn't just an alien visitation. It's an all-out invasion. That's why I call them invaders."

Ben sat back in a daze. "It makes perfect sense."

"What do you mean?"

"Think about it. What better way to take over the world than without the inhabitants even knowing it's happening? If an alien race has cloaking technology, it would be the perfect invasion."

Drew nodded. "You're right. But their ability to cloak themselves goes beyond just being invisible. They can walk through walls and doors. It's like they are in some interdimensional state. What I don't get is how come they can see us but we can't see them. Oh yeah, I can't hear them at all. It's like watching a silent movie. I haven't figured it out yet, but they can affect the outcome of naturally occurring phenomena. Like make a tire go flat to cause an accident or maybe weaken a bridge support to make it collapse. It's usually the small things though. They do what they do is such a way that people would never suspect the event has been tampered with. They are extremely careful and crafty that way." (excerpt from Cloak of the Light.)

There seems to be an interest in aliens and other dimensions that parallel our own. At least that is what Drew Carter and Benjamin Berg believe for now. When a science experiment at the local college reveals the ability to gain insight and see into a parallel dimension running alongside our own, they don't know what else to believe the shadow-like figures really are. Since Ben has always believed in aliens, he convinces Drew that is precisely what Drew has been seeing with his ability to see faster than light travels.

However Drew also see's what he calls light invaders as well. They have the ability to wage war in a world that no one but Drew can see. He can't understand what their true purpose is, but when the dark invaders attempt to kill both himself and Ben, all he knows is he can't stand by and do nothing. His unique abilities of heightened senses have allowed him the ability to be one step ahead of the human race and he believes he must do all he can to convince others that there are aliens all around us that we simply can't see. The only person he isn't able to convince is a girl he met in high school Sydney, a church going girl, who believes there is more to what is happening than Drew is willing to admit.

All Drew knows is that the light invaders are always present and helping in the battle against the dark invaders whenever Sydney or her church group is nearby. Even Sydney seems to radiate a blue flame like aura all around her and she seems to be illuminated in a way that offers a sense of peace and power that aid the light invaders. Now it's a race against time for Drew to aid Ben in rebuilding the device that will enable others to see into the parallel dimension before the dark invaders attempt to stop them.

I received Cloak of the Light by Chuck Black compliments of Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own unless otherwise noted. I LOVE this series as it explains precisely what an unbeliever would see if they had the ability to see into the spiritual realm. With no basis for any other explanation, it is logical that Drew and Ben would believe they are seeing aliens. This is such an amazing new series dealing with spiritual warfare and I especially love how Chuck explains his ideas using biblical references in each chapter at the end along with scripture verses to back up how his ideas came to life, such as angels using swords to further enhance the readers experience in enjoying this amazing fictional series!
I personally give this one a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait for the next one to come out. This has definitely made it to my "watch list!"
