I guess you could call me a "hearty!" It is what fans of Hallmark Channels, When Calls the Heart refer to themselves as. Not just in the sense that we are lovers of romance and all things pertaining to the heart but the series inspired by Janette Oke and directed by Michael Landon Jr. Now in it's fourth season beginning to air soon, I had the chance to review When Calls the Heart Collector's Edition for Season 3 on DVD just in time for Christmas! What a perfect gift for fans of the series!

Their love is put to the ultimate test when Jack's mom (Brooke Shields) comes to town. Wedding plans are in order for Rosemary and Lee, and a possible budding romance between Abigail (Lori Loughlin) and Frank, the local church pastor. But like all happy endings, these will be tested far and above what most people would want and love doesn't come easily to those who truly deserve it. Of course the bad guys are still up to their old tricks and fans hope that Mr. Gowen will get his just desserts for all the grief he has brought to the town of Hope Valley. But the town of Hope Valley's faith will be tested to see if that faith is one that can be trusted before the last episode airs!

I received When Calls the Heart Season 3 Collector's Edition Boxed Set compliments of Edify Media Inc and Word Films. When Calls the Heart - Forever In My Heart

If you have not watched When Calls the Heart, especially if you were a fan of Little House on the Prairie growing up, you will want to tune it. Thanks to Janette Oke's novel, the Hallmark Channel and Michael Landon Jr teamed up to further the adventures of Elizabeth Thatcher, (Erin Krakow), a woman from a prominent family in Hamilton, and decides to try becoming a school teacher in Hope Valley, out west. Only problem is that life on the frontier isn't at all like Elizabeth might imagine but she is bound and determined to give it ago especially when there are so many children who are in need of a teacher.

Now in its third season, When Calls the Heart, Forever in My Heart has been released on DVD by Word Films and is the 4th DVD in Season 3. The development of some of our favorite characters are about to take another turn. Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) is working with some new settlers who have set up a temporary camp outside of town for men who are working back in the mines. Unfortunately one couple is dealing with the affects of long hours and being new parents and the young husband vows to do what is best for them by leaving. It will take some intervention and heart to heart talks on both ends with Jack to help them realize what is best for their new family.

Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) has been caring for Cody and Becky Connor's who have lost their parents and has taken on the role of a surrogate mother. Now it seems that a long lost wealthy aunt, Carolyn Conner's is about to uproot the family knowing that she is what is best for them above all the love Abigail has provided without taking their feelings into consideration. Once again, Abigail is about to lose everything she has invested her love in, or will she? Meanwhile Lee's feelings are about to be put to the ultimate test when Rosemary gets the chance of a lifetime, to become the lead actress in a producers movie. The only catch is that she will have to leave Hope Valley to do so. Will she stay for love or leave for fame? Only time will tell.

I received When Calls the Heart - Forever in My Heart compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a copy of this DVD in exchange for my unbiased and personal opinion. I am so thrilled that this has made it to DVD so I can share this with my grandchildren and family whenever they come for a visit. It is so wonderful to find great shows that still teach moral and family values of hard work, community and love in one amazing show. This is Dove Family Approved for all ages, and the DVD runs approximately 84 minutes. There is also some bonus material included as an added bonus.

Caged No More

Did you know that slavery is still happening in the world today? Human trafficking is the world's fastest growing global crime and that every 30 seconds a child is sold into slavery. Don't just think it's happening in some other country. It is happening in our nation as well. Every year 1.2 million children are sold from the ages of 12 to 18 into human slavery. Makes you wonder about all those kids that go missing. Are they simply part of the human slave trade? Did you realize that parents are often the biggest criminals selling their own children into the human slave trade market? An estimated 27 million people are enslaved worldwide. Slavery is not over, it is still happening and we need to put a stop to it now!

Caged No More takes viewers into the heart of a fictional movie inspired by real events. Aggie (Loretta Devine) Prejean, a grandmother on a desperate search to find her two granddaughters, Skye and Elle, who have been kidnapped by their sinister father (Kevin Sorbo). As the details behind the girls' disappearance begin to unravel, they have been discovered to have been taken overseas to be sold into the sex trade, under the guise of a modeling contest in Greece. Aggie enlists the help of the girls' uncle, a well-respected philanthropist, and his son Wil (Alan Powell), who is a former Special Forces officer. A global hunt ensues, and the team will stop at nothing to see the girls safely returned home.

This is not a family-friendly movie, but it is one that cannot be ignored. For far too long many groups that are working to put a stop to human trafficking, are merely overlooked by the public and media groups. Our goal should be to see this come to a halt, whether it is public and national exposure or even working with our local community groups to do all we can to see this crime exposed for the pure evil it is. It might be your daughter, friend, niece, sister or family member that is sold into the human sex trade. We need to ensure that every church and community sees this film, but more than that, to do our part to help. You can find out more information about human trafficking and how to help at CagedNoMore.com. You can even find the nearest group working to end this in your community.

I received Caged No More compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a copy of this DVD in exchange for my honest and unbiased personal opinion. One thing is certain, we need to spread this message and expose the darkness in this world and see an end to human trafficking once and for all. Every family, church and community needs to see this movie. We need to talk to our daughters and let them know that this is a crime that often goes unreported or falls under kidnapping or missing kids. Who are your kids chatting with online or through social media. It's time we all take a stand and protect our kids. I easily give this DVD a 5 out of 5 stars and encourage everyone to watch it. It is rated PG-13 and runs about 97 minutes.

When Calls the Heart - Heart of a Hero

Looking for a great family series that is suitable for all ages? Trust me, check out When Calls the Heart! It began with the novel from Janette Oke and spawned into a great series that you can find on the Hallmark Channel. Now going on it's 4th season soon, this is produced by Michael Landon Jr, whose family has produced some amazing series geared for families.

When Calls the Heart - Heart of a Hero, is the 3 DVD release in Season 3 that showcases the life of a frontier town called Hope Valley, a mining town out west that takes us into the heart of all the town's residents, and has roots in relationships, self-empowerment, love and enduring power of love. New arrivals bring excitement, love and danger to Hope Valley. Pastor Frank has been reinstated following the revelation of his criminal past, but the arrival of his old cohorts, the Garrison Gang, are making life - and his relationship with Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) - very tense. Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) has his own debt to settle with Jake Garrison, and Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), intends to stay Bill's hand from killing the man. Meanwhile, Lee Coulter's foot injury brings a pretty nurse, Faith Carter from Hamilton...and soon after, her possessive fiancè. And Jack rises to the defense of new settlers on Gowen's land when Gowen abruptly raises their rent.

Just when you thought love was blooming in all the right places for our favorite characters Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) and Abigail Stanton who have had their faith share of problems, now it seems they will have to deal with issues from the past in both of their situations. Faith was the nurse who helped Jack's brother back in Elizabeth's hometown of Hamilton and caused their relationship to be tested and now she is in Hope Valley. But will she stay? Will Pastor Frank even be able to face the town again as their man of faith, when he held back his own secret past? What will that do for the relationship that was just beginning to kindle with Abigail? It seems our heroes heart will be put to the ultimate test.

I received When Calls the Heart: Heart of a Hero by Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside from a free copy of this DVD in exchange for my unbiased and personal opinion. This has truly been my favorite series from the Hallmark Channel, in part because I grew up with Little House on the Prairie and now When Calls the Heart is this generations equivalent of the same. It has great moral lessons and the characters convey the consequences that come from wrong decisions, but forgiveness and unconditional love always win out in the end. Dove Family Approved and running time is 84 minutes approximately and worth all 5 out of 5 stars.

Chasing Grace

Sometimes you have hope when you pop in a DVD after viewing the trailer and truly look forward to a great movie. Other times, you wind up disappointed, that perhaps the best scenes of said movie were all combined in the trailer. That is the case with Chasing Grace by Catalyst Pictures. Now on DVD courtesy of Word Films, this is the story of one pastor's family and how they handle the grief and loss that comes when their daughter Grace is accidentally shot when she finds the gun her uncle Carter (David Temple) had brought to her birthday party. The uncle was just released from jail by his brother and pastor Jonathan Matheson (Michael Joiner), and had passed out in the family home when the tragedy happened.

Now each member of the family processes their grief in very different ways. Jonathan picks up drinking to bypass the pain same as his brother and father. He tries to hide it from his wife and board members of his church but soon even those lies are brought to lie with very profound circumstances. His wife Angela (Ashlee Payne), buries her feelings in trying to get the family back to normal as quickly as possible which leaves her in dark depression that even counseling can't seem to help. Her two remaining sons, Christopher, the oldest, has to fend off bullies at school and finds solace following in his father's footsteps to see how alcohol might help ease the pain. He soon finds himself in jail. While the youngest, David struggles to understand just what is happening to his family and how he can try to help.

I received Chasing Grace by Catalyst Pictures compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside for a free copy of this DVD in exchange for my personal evaluation either favorable or not. I have to say, I was not that impressed. The story line is boring and the pace of the film moves so slowly, you find yourself wondering just how much longer this film can drag the story out. Each character's evolution into grief in so slow paced, you simply wish they'd get it over with, so you can find other things to do. While the run time on this is 96 minutes, anything longer than a hour is beyond brutal. I had to keep trying to find a way to convince myself to finish this in order to see how it might all end up. You have a pastor trying to convince and manipulate the local police to take vengeance on his brother in any viable means possible even killing him if need be. While I understand processing grief is different for everyone, I think the point of finding forgiveness is so missing until the final moments, that most people would turn it off before getting that far. These are not characters you feel any kind of connection with and therefore are missing that factor of wanting to know how it all turns out for any of them. For me, this one was a 3 out of 5 stars in my opinion, and even that might be a bit generous. This is just my opinion but others might have a different one than what I posted here.

Awakened

Sometimes we need to understand that there are certain things that can happen in this world, that are motivated by evil. While we may not see it, it exists in an unseen realm at times. Some movie fans flock to horror films like Paranormal Activity, thinking that is is simply a movie, but in reality, things like what you see happening on the big screen can and do happen in real life and the consequences can be life altering.

The latest DVD release from Word Films, Awakened, and isn't for the faint of heart or those who dislike movies on the supernatural. In this movie, Jacob Harker (Rob Boltin) is a newspaper reporter who has been laid off, just as his new wife Haley (Gwendolyn Edwards) announces she is pregnant. He insists that it will only be a matter of time until he is working again. Until then they move into a rental house that will offer them a bit of a break in their finances owned by Webster Cain (Michael Monks). He advises the couple that the basement still has old things he hasn't gotten around to cleaning out, but they are welcome to do it and utilize the space.

As Haley leaves for work, Jacob attempts to work on clearing out the basement space and uncovers an old reel to reel recording from Carol James (Hannah Hughes), who was involved in a car accident at an early age, that claimed the life of the up and coming new singer. As Jacob uses his investigative skills to dig deeper into the mystery of who Carol James really was, he finds himself becoming more and more obsessed with the ghost from the past, one that has a personal interest in Jacob and attacks Haley creating both fear and distrust in the Harker's home. It will take Haley using all her resources of faith to fight back against the evil that has found a home in their lives.

I received Awakened by Word Films compliments of Edify Media Inc and Word Films for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this DVD in exchange for my honest review. While the message is relevant, I believe the film lacks in the editing and production of the film. The sound quality of hearing the actors voices over the music is downright irritating and shows what a bigger budget might be able to pull off in the way this film attempts to get its message across. For me, the suspense element was there but the over all production quality just wasn't and for me, garners a 3 out of 5 stars in my opinion. Approximately running time of this DVD is 93 minutes. The message is what is important and that comes across pretty clear!

Living Hope - DVD Review

Ever considered being a missionary or head out on a missions trip to South Africa? You might want to check out Living Hope, a documentary on the lives of three missionaries who each have found hope in the darkness of despair in the DVD release from Word Films.

Living Hope is the story of three extraordinary individuals who have devoted their lives to serving the poor in South Africa. It is a feature length documentary of about 90 minutes created by the filmmakers behind Journey to Everest, Apostles of Comedy and Honoring a Father's Dream: Sons of Lwala.

We see the stories of John Thomas, a pastor who is leading his church to serve the sick, hungry and dying in the communities that surround them. Journey beside John through the neighborhoods where they work, meet the people their ministry has impacted, and hear from his heart why they chose to make a stand for the poor.

Joey Lankford, a businessman and father of four who moved his young family from the United States to Cape Town. Journey beside Joey as he equips men and women with job skills and leads them out of the bondage of poverty.

Finally, Leonie Rustin, a single mom and nursing assistant, who turned from a life of crippling drug addiction to follow Christ. Journey beside Leonie, as she attempts to help others in her community to unshackle the chains of addiction and prostitution.

I received Living Hope by Word Films compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this DVD in exchange for my personal and honest evaluation. This documentary is perfect for any one considering entering into becoming a missionary or considering taking part in a missions trip to South Africa. Narrated by Joel Smallbone of For King and Country, this is such an impactful moving film that shows Christians taking on the task of helping the poor, destitute and the needy as Jesus commanded. When others question the motives of Christians, they need not look far to see how people are helping around the globe and these are just three of the remarkable people who gave up their own lives to help others find purpose in theirs. This is Dove family approved and winner of 5 doves from the Dove Foundation as well as the winner of the Great Commission Award from the Attic Film Festival in 2014 as well as the Official Selection in the UK Christian Film Festival in 2015. For me this one resounds with a 5 out of 5 stars.

Looking for a television series that is great for all ages? Check out Hallmark Channel's When Calls the Heart Series, based on the novel from author Janette Oke and executive producer Michael Landon Jr. Now in its third season, the DVD When Calls the Hearts: Troubled Hearts is released to fans of the series known simply as "Hearties!"

The entire series is based on a fictional town in the west known simply as Hope Valley, formerly Coal Valley. Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) leaves her well to do family in Hamilton to head west in search not only for adventure but answering the ad for a school teacher. She falls in love with Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), a Canadian Mounty, and realizes that she has finally found a true home. In this episode, Elizabeth finally has her own home, at last after living with Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin), owner of the cafe. She is excited as she prepares to write her novel of life on the frontier in her new home but first it will need more than fixing up and Jack is just the person to lend a hand. He had hoped that one day he would build her a home, but for now those plans are on hold.

Rosemary begins to see signs that her love interest Lee Colter, the owner of the Sawmill might be having financial difficulties and she lends a hand helping him to economize and save money at every opportunity without first confronting him. She believes its not her place to ask if he needs money. Meanwhile just as things are beginning to look up for Abigail as she expresses an interest in Pastor Frank, an unexpected visitor Jesse shows up to make things difficult based on Frank's past he is keeping hidden. Things are about to get complicated once again for the residents of Hope Valley!

I received When Calls the Heart: Troubled Hearts compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the DVD in exchange for my heartfelt and honest opinions. There honestly has not been much I don't like about this series, except that you have to wait for each new season! The DVD's however help to pass the time. This one includes exclusive behind the scenes interviews  and runs about 84 minutes in length for the feature. This is truly one series that every single member can enjoy and fans of Little House on the Prairie will definitely want to make sure you pick this entire series up from the beginning. It has humor, romance, adventure and a few tears along the way as you cheer on your favorite character or couple! For me, another 5 out of 5 stars!

When Calls The Heart: It Begins With Heart

Looking for something that the entire family can watch that has a great lesson, keeps to moral integrity and is a fun way to spend the evening as a family? Then look no further than When Calls the Heart, a series based on the novel by Janette Oke and produced by Michael Landon Jr. for the Hallmark Channel. Now in its third season, this series follows the life of Elizabeth Thatcher, a school teacher for Hope Valley that leaves her life in Hamilton to help teach the children of a mining town that there is hope for a better life out west.

In the DVD, When Calls the Heart: It Begins With Heart, this opens Season 3 with some changes for the towns residents of Hope Valley as they are beginning plans for the New Year's Eve celebration. For cafe owner Abigail Stanton(Lori Loughlin, Full House), she plans on investigating who is stealing the food from her kitchen and winds up with two orphan children in need of a family. Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) vows to prove herself worthy of earning the trust of Rip, a dog owned by Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), who comes between her and Jack as he is jealous of their romantic relationship. Sometimes the best way to a dog's heart is through his stomach, but unfortunately Elizabeth is not the best cook in Hope Valley.

Rosemary is bound and determined to use her literary skills to win a contest about real life on the frontier with the San Francisco Herald and it seems she has managed to fabricate things a bit which will pose as Lee Colter's wife when they come to see things in person. Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) is still trying to convince Jack that he is innocent in the counterfeiting ring and two visitors arrive in town to cause problems for both Jack and Pastor Frank just as he is beginning to start building a relationship with the town as pastor and win the heart of Abigail.

I received When Calls the Heart: It Begins with Heart compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the DVD in exchange for my honest and personal opinion. I only wish there were more shows like this on television especially for the entire family to enjoy. This is truly a great series that every single member will enjoy and for fans of the television show Little House on the Prairie, this one will make you feel right at home. It will make you laugh, cry and cheer for your favorite Hope Valley residents and well worth 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. This is Dove Family approved for all ages!

Noble - DVD Review

Sometimes we simply need to step back from our own personal lives to gain a deeper perspective into what one life can do to make a difference. So many people won't try because they feel their own efforts are simply not enough. Then there comes a person who proves that statement wrong, that one person can make a difference if they are only willing to try. Christina Noble is one such person.

In the DVD, NOBLE, based on the true life events of Christina Noble, an Irish woman with a heart like no other, she struggles to find a way to make a difference in the lives of the orphans living in the streets of Vietnam, which she feels God has led her to for some reason. Growing up on the streets herself when her mother dies and leaves her behind in the care of her drunken father and brothers and sisters, the courts intervene and place them in foster care. Christina is separated from those she loves and winds up living in a convent home when child labor is utilized to help meet the needs of the church and community. But Christina has been blessed with a voice she emulates from her idol Doris Day but which others use for their own profit and gain.

She flees from the nuns and lives on the streets making her way any way possible until she finds herself a victim of a brutal assault which leaves her forever changed. As she talks with God during her life, she has a vision of going to Vietnam to make a difference, she just never imagined she would flee the slums of Ireland to battle the government of Vietnam to save the children that no one wants.

I received NOBLE by Word Films compliments of Edify Media and Word Films for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation, aside from a free copy of this DVD in exchange for my honest personal opinion. While this based on the life of Christina Noble it isn't a documentary but the story of one woman's courage to make a difference that is conveyed in such broad terms by the end of the movie. NOBLE is the winner of six U.S. Film Festival Awards and stars Deidre O'Kane (Moone Bay, Paths to Freedom), Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey), Sarah Greene (The Guard, The Cripple of Inishmaan), and Liam Cunningham (Clash of the Titans). Well worth 5 out of 5 stars! Based on the content on subject matter this is not suitable for young children and teens and viewer discretion is advised.

When Calls the Heart - Follow Your Heart

As Season 2 draws to a close, fans of the series, When Calls the Heart are waiting for resolution for our beloved couple of Jack Thornton and Elizabeth Thatcher who are now standing at the crossroad in their relationship. Returning home from Hamilton, the couple have had quite a few differences of opinions and the relationship remains strained. They will soon see that each time that one of them is faced with a life or death situation, like Jack's run in with the counterfeiters, they have to be honest with how they truly feel about one another. Will they realize that their hearts have always belonged to one another or for those they left behind in Hamilton.

Abigail is faced with trying to make Mr. Gowen's latest repairs otherwise she will have to shut down her cafe. The problem isn't the money but trying to get it done in time. Pastor Hogan offers to join in helping Abigail and Elizabeth in hopes of meeting the deadline. Unfortunately Bill Avery has returned to complicate things with his confessed feelings for her still and struggles to see her with someone like Frank Hogan. He hopes to speak with the man Jack arrested in hopes of discovering who is in charge of the counterfeiting ring against the orders of his superiors.

Rosemary has now relinquished her duties at the school now that Elizabeth has returned, even though she focused more on the children learning their parts for the Founder's Day play instead of their school work. However since she has rejected Lee Coulter's proposal to take their relationship to the next level, she now realizes how jealous she is when she see's that Lee has taken up courting one of the local widows. It makes her realize just how foolish she was but now she has to find a way to convey her true feelings for Lee without coming straight out and telling him so.  Elizabeth's sister Julie is still struggling in Hamilton with her feelings for Jack's brother Tom despite the fact that her family doesn't want her in a relationship with anyone less than what they desire for her.

The season concludes once more with a bit of a cliff-hanger ending and just when it looks like everything might just get resolved between our town's favorite couples, there will be a huge plot twist. For families truly looking for a series that the entire family can enjoy without the questionable content you find on television lately, you might just want to check out When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel. When Calls the Heart: Heart and Home - DVD Review

Those of us that adore Hallmark Channel's series, When Calls the Heart, are referred to as "Hearties" and now with the introduction of Heart and Home, the latest DVD from the series has now caused a bit of a stirring up among our favorite characters.

Just when we believe things are settled, there comes a bit of chaos to the mix. Charles is still there as Elizabeth Thatcher's (Erin Krakow) childhood friend that seems to be encouraged by those in Elizabeth's family, all but her sister Julie, that Charles would make a more suitable match than Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). As they both arrive back to Hamilton with news that Julie and Jack's brother, Tom have been involved in a car accident, the car belonging to Elizabeth's dad. He is all set to prosecute to the full extent of the law and have Tom tossed in jail. He knows that Julie has been a bit headstrong in her opinion that she and Tom are in love and had hoped to get married. But there is one thing Mr. Thatcher wants to control is who his daughters marry and he isn't too thrilled to have either of the Thornton men with interests in his daughters.

As Jack and Elizabeth arrive, the tables get turned a bit for viewers. Jack spends time visiting with his brother Tom in the hospital and manages to convince Elizabeth's father to drop the charges against his brother especially when evidence Jack uncovers tells a much different story about who was really driving the car that day. However he does find a friend in Tom's nurse Faith as the two discover they have quite a bit in common. As a way of thanking her for all her help, Jack meet Faith over dinner and is discovered by Elizabeth's sister and her husband.

Not one to keep secrets she is quick to let Elizabeth know that she saw Jack having dinner with another room, which once again throws a monkey wrench into our favorite couple. Julie and Tom decide not to let their families tell them what to do and make plans to elope. Rosemary is head over heels with the excitement that she has managed to convince Lee Colter to build her a theater. Of course what man wouldn't for a woman he loves. But he still has issues with Mr. Gowen who has vowed to put an end to the impending railroad contract that would promise to be quite the thing the town needs to bring more industry to the town of Hope Valley and make Lee a very wealthy man. But with Elizabeth now heading back to Hamilton to deal with the issues with her family, she leaves the school to a back up teacher who has a less than pleasing disposition with her students and Rosemarie offers to lend a hand of course.

I received When Calls the Heart: Heart and Home from Word Films and Edify Media Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review, aside from a free copy of the DVD for review, the opinions contained here are strictly my own personal ones. I have loved this series from it's inception and from Janette Oke's novel which inspired the show. It is one of the true shows that is still family appropriate for all ages much like Little House on The Prairie did for my childhood. Michael Landon Jr is the executive producer and truly the show gets better with each new episode. Much of what I love about this series, it's the fashions and the simplicity of life in Hope Valley compared to that of Hamilton. For me, another 5 out of 5 stars and I can't wait for more. This DVD runs approximately 84 minutes and includes some exclusive behind the scenes interview.

Find A Way - DVD Review

God appoints a time for our birth and a time for our death. It's what we do with the dash in between that makes a difference in the life of a believer. Word Films introduces their latest DVD, Find A Way, which features an all-star high school football player, Smiley Cain, has it all together both on and off the field. Not only is he well known, but he is an all around guy. One who wears his faith as much as he wears his football jersey. Never one to turn down helping out someone in need from someone named "Stick" who is getting bullied, to a young girl, Casey, who has just been broken up with my her boyfriend because she doesn't seem to have the right look. Not only that he inspires and encourages his teammate and best friend Nick Whitefield, the coaches son, who dreams of following his passion in music over playing football like his dad wants.

Then one day, Smiley doesn't wake up and is immediately rushed to the hospital where the town takes stock in their own lives. From Casey who is watching her family fall apart while she is struggling to come to terms with her recent break up and now watching the one man who had faith in her struggle to survive while he is in the hospital. Her mother is simply too busy with her career and her older sister has plans that involve pursuing her own career with shopping at the mall for the latest in fashions. Her father is struggling to keep the family together but it seems like it is all in vain.

The coaches family faces a similar situation when Nick's mom overhears his father talk down to him about his music career telling him it's a waste of time. When she attempts to correct her husband, he reminds her where her place is in the family and that is of a wife and nothing more. Soon she wonders if divorce from him, might just be the best thing for the family. Finding faith in the midst of difficult circumstances is the theme in this movie.

I received Find A Way from Word Films compliments of Edify Media Inc and Word Films for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review, aside from a free copy of this DVD and the opinions contained here are my own honest personal ones. I would have liked to see this movie made from a higher quality film company because the edits on this one were pretty bad on both the sound and focus issues in certain scenes. The sad thing is that this is meant to have a great impact and with the acting portrayed by the people in this film, you find it hard to truly care about any of the characters in this story. This is based on the true story of Harry Cohen, which should have been the true star of the movie and unfortunately for this reviewer and her family, it fell far short of our expectations. For this reason, I would rate this one a 3 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul

Looking for a great family friendly television series, that still models the wholesome family values from shows like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons? Then look no further than When Calls the Heart, based on the novel from Janette Oke and from producer Michael Landon Jr. for the Hallmark Channel. If you haven't watched it, trust me, go back to the very beginning and get acquainted with Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), who ventured west in the dreams of becoming a teacher despite her wealthy upbringing. She brings a love of learning to the children of Coal Valley, a mining town who recently suffered a massive mine explosion that claimed the lives of the men of the town, living the survivors to pick up the pieces.

In the DVD, Heart and Soul from the series, we find the long awaited trial into the suspected tampering of the mine by owner Henry Gowen, underway. Most of the women hope that the evidence against Mr. Gowen will be brought to light and absolve the mystery behind what caused the explosion that cost these men their lives. While Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) works with Bill Avery (Jack Wagner), the investigator on the case to prove her husbands innocence to the town, Elizabeth Thatcher is still in Hamilton caring for her ailing mother. Even though Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), went with her, he must now return to his duties and leave Elizabeth behind, trusting that their love will survive despite the distance. Her father, however has other plans in mind when he continues to invite her childhood friend, Charles Kensington to fill in her available time in hopes she might forget all about Jack.

Back in Hope Valley, Rosemary always looking for that next big break in her budding career as an actress finds herself with a prospect of returning to San Francisco to star in an upcoming play. The two producers arrive with just the right lure for her to give up any hopes of remaining in Coal Valley, now Hope Valley. Only as usual some things are simply too goo to be true, and she finds herself being kidnapped with only our reputable hero, Jack Thornton to her rescue. When the weather turns on both of them, it forces them to take shelter in an abandoned mine overnight, which leads to ongoing rumors of what really happened among those in town. Is this the end of Elizabeth and Jack?

I received When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul compliments of Word Films, and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. Aside from the complimentary copy of the DVD, I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. Just like in any of our favorite romances, there always has to be conflict tossed in for good measure and in this case, with distance now separating Elizabeth and Jack, we find Rosemary and Charles are the antagonists without truly intending to do so. It will be something that either strengthens their relationship or will be a wedge that will drive them apart but I'll let that one remain a mystery until you pick this one up to enjoy. This is a Dove Family Approved DVD and one I know, you will treasure as much as my family and I do. We can't wait for more in this series and well worth all 5 out of 5 stars.

The Father's Love - DVD Review

Sometimes when we want love so badly, we are willing to take it in the most unlikely of places. Far too often in places we wouldn't recommend a friend to do it, but often times willing to accept less than for ourselves, just to have it.

As a young girl, Sarah struggled to find a way to fill the hurt in her own life when her father failed her and her mother in being loyal to his family. Now as she has grown she is looking for it in all kinds of places, from work, to partying in her free time with friends, and even dating multiple men at the same time, in a way to fill the void in her own life. Her father continues to write her letters, but she refuses to open a single one, banishing the letters to a growing pile, much like she feels he had done to her.

When just the right man shows up, Sarah believes she has finally found the right one. He offers her everything under the sun. Wonderfully romantic dates, gifts and words of love and affirmation, even offering to share a great apartment in New York with her. But soon afterwards the phone calls from Reese grow in distance, always having to work, always being called out of town to help his family, and soon Sarah discovers that the love Reese has for her isn't the same definition she has.

I received The Father's Love by Word Films compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review outside the complimentary copy of the DVD. The opinions contained here are strictly my own. This movie has a great message but due to the subject matter involved, I wouldn't recommend this for the entire family even though the Dove Foundation has offered a review. It truly shows us what unconditional love looks like and how we can achieve that through God and through His Word found in the Bible and not from any man. It shows the power of God's love and how it has the ability to heal wounds we would never imagine possible and just how wonderful forgiveness can truly be. Well worth 4.5 out of 5 stars for this reviewer.

In Plain Sight

Hard to believe when you think of sex trafficking, you would think it happens in countries like India, Africa, China, or Cambodia. But its not. Over 80% of the sex trafficking is occurring in the United States with 100,000 children and even thousands more women being sold into trafficking rings. The average age of children are between 12 and 14 years of age. It is appalling when you think that in hotels, motels, truck stops and spas this is happening all around us right where we live. You might think it is only happening in larger cities like New York, Los Angeles or Las Vegas but victims have been rescued in all 50 states in big cities and small ones. Do you really know what is going on in your own city?

By definition sex trafficking is a commercial sex act induced by fraud, force or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained 18 years of age. Any minor engaged in a commercial sexual act is considered a trafficking victim regardless of whether force, fraud or coercion is involved. In other words there is no such thing as a child prostitute, he or she is a trafficking victim. So how is this even happening in America?

Most of the time patterns emerge that shows most victims were neglected or sexually abused at a very young age. These patterns continue as the victims grow confused over what is normal in their lives. They soon find sex gives them attention they need as well as money to finance other needs like drugs or alcohol because they don't understand that this is not a normal life for a young man or woman. They always feel as if they never had a choice. It usually starts with abusive parents, sexual abuse with a friend or relative when they are very young, usually 4 or 5; they are in and out of foster care; once they are a victim they are likely to be victimized again. They are likely to put themselves in those situations again, not intentionally meaning to be the child's fault. They become runaways, They are usually from homes where domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, These applied to every single victim regardless of race, ethnicity or background. The differences is in third world country is it is out on the street, in the open, where in the United States we are really good at keeping it hidden and covering up that this is happening. The number one trait found in all victims is vulnerability, in which traffickers use this to meet the unmet needs in a women or child I was preying upon.  This is why 1 in 3 runaways are approached within 48 hours of being on the streets by a sex trafficker.

Most of us would look away due to complexity of the problem but still others rise up to take action, like the six female abolitionists highlighted in this documentary produced and narrated by Natalie Grant, In Plain Sight. Jeanne Allert, Founder and Executive Director of The Samaritan Women in Baltimore, Maryland; Jenny Williamson, Founder and CEO of Courage Worldwide in Sacramento, CA; Deanna Graves, Founder and Executive Director of Traffick 911 in Dallas, TX; Louise Allison, Founder and Director of P.A.T.H. Partners Against Trafficking Humans in Littlerock, Arkansas; Bobbie Mark, Co-Founder and Director of Redeemed in Houston, Texas; Stacia Freeman, US Director for Hope for Justice in Nashville, Tennessee. Learn how these women made a difference in their cities and how they are impact the lives of sex trafficking victims in a positive way.

I received In Plain Sight compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. This is such a powerful documentary and one I think everyone adult needs to watch. There are warning signs we all need to pay attention to and be aware that this is happening all over the United States, quite possibly in the very city we are living in currently. It is designed not just to inform but to empower and motivate people to take action in their own community as a way of preventing this from continuing. This is a preventable crime but it takes the contribution of everyone to make it work and to put an issue to open our eyes to what's is happening in plain sight. I easily give this one a 5 out of 5 stars.

Rumors of Wars

"In the end, we all worship something."

Imagine a world where the technology will revolutionize the way we buy and sell and even maintain our health and fitness. As technology advances, RFID chips will be the wave of the future. Fear of identity theft now removed; maintaining your health information without the hassle of doctors keeping paper records will be a thing of the past. Taking food stamps, welfare and government benefits and incorporating them into a small embedded chip is now here. You can even get discounts instantly on the places you shop the most without the inconvenience of carrying paper coupons or even leaving them at home. Maintain your stress levels and BMI's effortlessly and even counting calories now a thing of the past. Get yours today at a local Zurn center today!

Sound like something from a science fiction movie or merely a chilling look at what might be our future staring right at us. Think of the ability to prevent terrorist attacks because we can instantly locate anyone who has received the RFID chip and even track who is purchasing items that might be used in a terrorist threat. No more missing persons, because they can instantly be located like a Find Phone app!

In the DVD release of Rumors of Wars, Word Films takes a chilling look at the future where the government is in the process of rounding up citizens who haven't received the RFID chip to ensure the end of the terrorist attacks that are happening all over the US. Religious zealots are to blame for their division against the government control. The National Defense Authorization Act has been approved and now allows the Alliance, a military police force, to ensure that all comply or be killed. Martial law is unleashed to help find the religious rebels and their leaders to bring their war to an end.

But is it all one big cover up to some sick plan to control the population? The housing and financial economic collapse along with terrorist plots part of something bigger going on to do whatever it takes to plant fear into the minds of the American people? Society's end is just the beginning. Just another conspiracy theory? You decide!

I received Rumors of Wars compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. Except for the free copy of the DVD,  I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. This is such a great movie that takes Bible Prophecy and showcases a possible "what if" scenario. Starring Eric Roberts (Heroes) and Ben Davies (Courageous) this movie takes a look at the possible way the Mark of the Beast of Revelation might be played out in the present day. It truly shows you how simple technology would make the implementation of such a system possible. The movie runs 89 minutes and is Dove Family Approved. There are some great special features like interviews, an indepth look at the diary Roxy carries, character profiles and much much more. I easily rate this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

When Calls the Heart: Rules of Engagement

Webster's dictionary defines the meaning of the word engage: as a verb, to mean occupying the attention or interests of a person or persons; to secure for aid, employment, use, hire, etc.; to attract and hold fast; to bind as by pledge, contract, oath or promise; to betroth; and to bring (troops) into conflict; enter into conflict with.

In the DVD When Calls the Heart: Rules of Engagement from the Hallmark Channel and Word Films, all of these definitions apply to the characters we find in Coal Valley as Season 1 comes to a close with the final two episodes of the show. Does true happiness exist for anyone in Coal Valley? That is the question, Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) pens in her journal of this DVD. As the town's school teacher of Coal Valley, we find her wondering what the outcome will be for the relationship between her and constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). Jack is crowned the town's hero for the apprehension of the Toliver gang. Just as Jack returns from Cape Fulton, an unexpected surprises awaits him from the stage. A woman claiming to be Jack's fiancè, Rose Mary LeVeaux, a theater actress from New York. After 2 years of being away from Jack, she realizes she can't live without him and comes looking for him. But love is persistent in her eyes and no matter what Jack tells her, she believes until he conveys his feelings for Elizabeth, hope still awaits in the wings for her.

Inspector Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) arrives from Capital City to investigate the Pacific Northwest Mining accident that claimed the lives of 46 miners six months ago. He is hoping to build a case against the mining company for neglect thanks to the details Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) has provide to Jack. But Mr. Gowen, owner of the mine reminds Abigail that unless she drops the investigation and claims against the mine she might not like what his lawyers will be forced to reveal, one that just might point the fingers at her instead of at the mining company. But Abigail and Mr. Avery will not take to threats from Mr. Gowen or his employees.

Tensions mount as the circuit judge Jedidiah Black (James Brolin) arrives to oversee the case that could spell disaster either way you look at it for the town of Coal Valley. If the mine is responsible, it would mean the mine would close and the men would be out of work and unable to support their families. If Abigail is found responsible, it might mean the end to her cafe in Coal Valley and in the eyes of her friends whose husbands deaths would be on her hands. Will Jack Thornton find a way to reveal his feelings to Elizabeth just as she receives a lucrative offer as the first woman teacher in Briarcliff Teaching Academy back on the East Coast, a true dream job for her? Viewers will just have to wait until Season 2 begins, but until then we can relive all the greatest moments in this DVD series!

I received When Calls the Heart: Rules of Engagement compliments of Word Films, Hallmark Channel and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free DVD for my honest review and the opinions expressed here are my own. This DVD is the 6th and final one in Season 1 and includes the TV Series episodes number 11: Rules of Engagement and number twelve: Final Adieu on this one. This is such an exceptional series that families of all ages will come to love as much as The Little House on The Prairie. Micheal Landon Jr. brought author Janette Oke's novels to life and this one for me easily gets a full 5 out of 5 star rating!!!

When Calls the Heart - Change of Heart

As the series comes to it's close for the first season for When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel, we find our favorite characters on the verge of making some tough choices. In the DVD release of Change of Heart, which includes episode 9 and 10 from the series, we find Elizabeth Thatcher and Jack Thornton finally being able to do what we, the viewers, have been hoping for all along, their first official date and the acknowledgment of those feelings we see just below the surface each time these two find themselves in close proximity of one another. Jack works with Abigail to make preparations to impress Elizabeth and show her just how fond he is of her and to let her know how serious he is about their courtship since their first date took place in the saloon. Jack has definitely stepped up his game and impressed Elizabeth.

But just as Jack believes his personal life is finally moving forward, he receives notice that his request for transfer that he put in when he first arrived in Coal Valley has been approved. Now he is unsure what to do. If he refuses the transfer, it may end his career as constable for the mounties, but if he takes the position, he is unsure how it will impact the courtship he has with Elizabeth and if she will even want to wait for him.

Elizabeth's sister Julie arrives on the stage as a surprise to Elizabeth in hopes of finding out what living out west is truly like. She wasn't planning on finding a wounded man, Nathaniel, in a cabin while out riding, in need of medical attention and secrecy to his condition. He convinces her that he's been trying to get away from being part of the Tolliver Gang that his brother has been forcing him to be a part of. He simply wants a better life away from being a wanted man and trying to start over fresh in hopes of starting a marriage and family if he can find the perfect woman.

Mr Gowan attempts to further his business partnership with Abigail Stanton who runs the cafe in town. Jack tells Abigail that he has discovered that the mining accident that killed most of the men in town, including her husband and son, may not been an accident. It may have been caused by Mr. Gowan cutting a few corners and he hopes to find the evidence to prove it. Abigail takes it upon herself to be the one to do it if she can find a way into Mr. Gowan's office. Soon all three paths will cross and fate may claim more than one life in the process, but it will forever change all of their lives.

I received When Calls the Heart: Change of Heart compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This has been one of my favorite shows on the Hallmark Channel this year and I love that it is available on DVD. Michael Landon Jr is executive producer on the series inspired by the novels of Janette Oke and is definitely one the entire family can enjoy together. It inspires us that in the face of adversity, hope can still be found in banding together with family and friends. If you LOVED Little House on the Prairie, I would encourage you to check out this series. For me this one easily claims a 5 out of 5 stars. This is the 5th in the series to date.

When Calls the Heart - Second Chances

Just on the cusp of the first season coming to a close, When Calls The Heart, a series from the Hallmark Channel and adapted from the best-selling series from Janette Oke, finds a calling in the hearts of television viewers. Now this amazing series is available on DVD, and Second Chances, finds Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) at her wits end after finding out that the man she was falling for, Billy Hamilton was only out for Elizabeth's family fortune. When Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), lets it slide that Elizabeth has no money, Billy decides Coal Valley isn't for him after all. Now Elizabeth begins to doubt her own emotions and once again is indebted to Jack. Jack struggles to find a way to convey the true feelings he has for Elizabeth and offers to take her to dinner, but with a lack of somewhere to take her in town, besides the saloon. Jack opts to help Elizabeth out with one of her students so they can spend time together.

Elizabeth is excited when a shipment of books arrives to aid one of her students Bo Grady that is struggling to read. She feels that if she can get him excited about reading it might provide a light to a future outside of mining.  It seems that the more Jack tries to convey his feelings for Elizabeth, the more he puts his foot in his mouth. Once again the two find themselves at odds. Elizabeth finds solace in talking things over with her friend, Abigail Stanton who dreams of opening a restaurant in Coal Valley. But first she has to get permission from Mr. Gowen, who owns everything in Coal Valley, including the mining company. Even though the store has sat vacant, she seems determined that she can make it work and its something the town of Coal Valley can use. But Mr. Gowen seems determined to prove to Abigail that a woman can't succeed at anything without his help. The only way he'll provide the cafe to Abigail is if she is willing to leave the row house she's lived in since her husband and son died.

Adam Miller is about to make his homecoming after corresponding with his family while recovering from the mining accident. What he failed to tell them was he has lost his legs, even though his family is more than thrilled to have him home, he sees himself as less than a man, and one that won't be able to provide for his family.  He realizes that even though he is finally home, it may not be the best place for his family. Now if they can only convince him that it isn't about his leg that makes him a husband and father. Things are about to get interesting when Elizabeth is put in charge of the annual production of the Coal Valley Founder's Day parade with no time to prepare and everyone has the highest expectations that it simply be the best. But will it?

I received When Calls the Heart: Second Chances compliments of Word Films, the Hallmark Channel and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own. Not since Little House on the Prairie has their been a series this good and I am thrilled that I am able to share this with my entire family. It is produced from Michael Landon Jr who is following in his father's footsteps with producing family friendly shows. I love that we can all sit and enjoy something that is wholesome, without any questionable content, and suitable for all ages. There is so many great things about each episode and in this one it is all about second chances for each of the characters, from Jack and Elizabeth attempting to work on building their relationship, showing Bo Grady there is more to life than mining, and even for Abigail who has the opportunity to begin rebuilding her life after losing her husband and son. Hands down for me, one of my favorite series brought to television, and I can't wait for season two to begin soon. This DVD rates a 5 out of 5 stars and is part of the When Calls The Heart series. You will want to pick them all up and watch it from the beginning. This DVD is 85 minutes long. This is the fourth in the series to date.
