Extraordinary - DVD Review and Giveaway

Perhaps one of the most encouraging verses in the Bible is Isaiah 40:28-31.

The Lord is jthe everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
khis understanding is unsearchable.
  He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
  Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
  but lthey who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings mlike eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

It is meant to encourage those who feel at the end of their rope! I don't recall a time in anyone's life when they haven't felt that way. In the DVD release on January 16, 2018, Extraordinary is a perfect illustration of this verse. Based on the true life events of Dr. David Horton and his wife Nancy, this is more than an inspirational film. Dr. David Horton has been somewhat of his own cheerleading team when it comes to the well fair of the students in his college class. During the movie, the Valedictorian  and Salutatorian have their own speeches that commend David on his ability to encourage them to get to where they are today.

His wife Nancy has big plans for the two of them to spend some much needed time together during David's summer break. After dealing with a heart attack that left him appreciating life a bit more, she is more than shocked to learn that her husband plans on completing the Trans America running race from Huntington Beach, California to Central Park in New York. She finds out about it during the graduation speeches of one of his students.

Nancy tries to explain to David how important it is that he finds balance in his life by being the man God has called him to be and not only care about God but also about his own family and stop putting them behind his own personal desires and gains. She doesn't discourage him from his commitment but conveys that she might not be waiting for him if he makes the decision to continue his race.  Along the way both David and Nancy are forced to a new level of understanding their own expectations of what a marriage should be and how they might have both been responsible for where their marriage is today. It makes everyone watching this movie decide for themselves to understand their own marriages and perhaps make very different choices in the journeys we have left to complete.

I received Extraordinary compliments of Icon Media Group and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. This is such a wonderful film that showcases our own races in this life and how we need to gain a different understanding of perspective in our own lives and in the lives of those we love. The theme centers around marriage, family, love and reconciliation and features a wonderful cast including Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains, Monumental, Saving Christmas) and Karen Abercrombie (War Room). This is a wonderful movie for the entire family to enjoy together and worthy of 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. Altar Egos DVD Giveaway and Review

So what does one do when taking over an existing church from his father's legacy? Well you'd think based on the lack of church attendance, you would consider making some changes to invite more people to want to join right? Well that is precisely what Pastor John (Robert Amaya, Courageous and Moms Night Out) wants to do. During the service the existing church choir makes it difficult for anyone to stay focused and awake including the elderly organist so he begins to look for ways to increase church attendance. His biggest obstacle is Mary Margaret, the head chairperson on the church board who believes that change isn't something that the church requires. She begins to question whether he is the right man for heading up the church after all.

She takes it upon herself to organize a strike against his leadership beginning with the removal of the church choir, which has the remaining church members in a fuss. They want the choir back. Mary Margaret has also called for a church board meeting to discuss Pastor John's removal and subsequent replacement. If only he could find a way to attend that meeting. He convinces his thespian son, Jack to help him find the perfect disguise so he can go unnoticed as an elderly man in their meeting. However Jack doesn't think his dad can pull it off simply because he looks like an older man. So Jack dresses up as an elderly man, called Frank while his dad goes under the name Milo and they walk the mall trying out their disguises.

Well the role play is a success in one right, they now find themselves committed to joining the church members for meetings, a Christmas party and even a dinner meeting with the potential new pastor all while remaining in disguise. I won't reveal all the high jinks and humor that comes along with this, but you can tell from the movie's title, this one was well thought out. The theme of loving the unlovable, reconciliation and change versus tradition will be one the entire family will enjoy. This movie also stars Erin Bethea, (Fireproof).

I received Altar Egos compliments of Bridgestone Multimedia Group and LEV3L Digital. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and know that if you are looking for a great comedy that is perfect for the entire family, you will want to check this film out. The Resurrection of Gavin Stone - DVD Giveaway

Buy this!!!

That's truly all you need to know if you're looking for a great, well produced Christian movie that the entire family can enjoy! The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is such an incredible movie that shows what the power of grace and redemption can give to those who put their lives in Jesus Christ, from Universal Pictures! This is NOT your cheesy, poorly written Christian movie most of us are used to seeing. There is an exceptional plot, recognizable actors and well filmed so it truly looks like something you would see on the bigger movie screens. In fact it did make its debut on select theaters but didn't stay out too long. Now it is available on Blu Ray, DVD and Ultra-Violet!

The premise behind this one is childhood star Gavin Stone, (Brett Dalton, Agents of Shield) made it big when he was little but is struggling to find any roles now that he is grown. So like most childhood actors we know, he decides to exemplify the bad boy image and instead has turned to parties with less than desirable results. He is the spotlight star on reality news and the recent action of trashing a penthouse roof in a high rise hotel has now landed him on the wrong side of the law. With either jail or 200 hours of community service, he opts for the lesser of two evils. Only his community service is within the confines of a local church as a custodian.

When he happens upon the pastor's kid, attractive but means business Kelly Richardson, (Anjelah Johnson-Reyes) he learns that she is putting together a theater performance of Crown of Thorns and is auditioning local talent to play the parts of the show. Believing he is just the right person for the job as lead, he convinces the pastor of the megachurch, Pastor Allen Richardson, (D.B. Sweeney) to allow him to utilize his remaining hours to help out the struggling production. He wants to star as the lead, Jesus Christ. When Pastor Allen tells him that only Christians are allowed in the production, he lies and tells him that he's a Christian. That's when things get interesting, because now he has to prove it by acting like one, talking like one and sharing his testimony before the church. Will he be able to pull it off?

I received The Resurrection of Gavin Stone compliments of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Icon Media. In accordance with the new FTC Guidelines for blogging and endorsements, you should assume that every book reviewed here at Reviews From The Heart was provided to the reviewer by the publisher, media group or the author for free and were received, unless specified otherwise. I can't begin to tell you how incredible this movie was and am so glad I had the opportunity to watch this. Most well meaning Christian movies never really pull off the expectations most of us have for a great movie without a big budget behind it or a lesser known cast. But seeing Brett Dalton, Agents of Shield Grant Ward, play Gavin Stone, well this was a part suited just for his acting experience as well as everyone else who put this entire movie together. There are some great bonus features like deleted scenes, church uniform advice and interviews with the cast and Pastor James MacDonald. This movie is rated PG due to the crucifixion scene might be a bit graphic but the message of one man's redemption is simply one you won't want to miss. We even wish they included the entire play, because it was so well conceived in the parts you get to see. I easily give this one a 5 out of 5 stars!

Now for the best part, thanks to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Icon Media, they are offering a giveaway copy of this movie as a combination Blu Ray, DVD and Ultraviolet to one lucky reader! Here's the details to enter to win!

Priceless - DVD Review and Giveaway

Sometimes when it seems as if your life is at an end, and all you have is hope for something better, you might just attempt to do whatever it takes to make things right again. James Stevens (Joel Smallbone) is a widower who has lost everything that meant anything to him. First his wife passed away unexpectedly and when he failed to find work, he also lost custody of his daughter Emerson to be raised by his mother. Now he is desperate enough to do anything without asking questions and one such job might be the pay off he was anticipating.

All he needs to do is drive a box truck from one location to another and just bring the cargo without any questions. But after driving all night, highway hypnosis gets the better of him, and he loses control of the truck on a long stretch of road. When he checks out the truck he hears crying coming from the locked portion of the vehicle. He breaks it open to find two sisters who have been told they have to help settle their father's enormous debt by doing whatever is asked of them. None one has any idea that this meant selling his daughters to human traffickers.

When James learns of the two young girls fate, he can't help but wonder just what is the worth of a woman's life? Would he be willing to sell his daughter if that happened to settle a debt? So he attempts to find the young women at all costs, even it if means he loses visitation rights to see his daughter again. All he knows is that he can't rest until he finds the two women and bring them back home because the value of a woman is truly priceless.

I received Priceless by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Icon Media Group. This is a powerful movie that conveys the hidden darkness happening around us every single day in regards to women being sold to human traffickers. It is also the inspiration behind For King and Country's song, Priceless and love that the movie's main character is played by frontman of the band, Joel Smallbone. Bonus features on the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD include exclusive performance by for King and Country, the making of Priceless, the heart behind the film, and deleted scenes. I easily give this movie a 5 out of 5 stars and love how this brings awareness to the very real threat happening in regards to human traffickers.

Patterns of Evidence Exodus - DVD Review and Giveaway

For many people to believe the Bible, they are looking for proof that it's true. Despite all the archaeological evidence that has been found, people are still trying to figure out where the evidence comes into play regarding the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and everything that went along with that story from the Bible. From the ten plagues that hardened Pharoah's heart to the pilgrimage of the people for 40 years into the desert, even the fall of Jericho's walls. So why all the inconsistencies? Is there proof from the Bible, that the story has played out exactly as it was written? If so where is the proof in the world today that can validate the claims that it happened exactly as Exodus clearly lays out for the reader?

Drawing on the experience of many biblical scholars, curators, archaeologists and scientists, film maker Timothy Mahoney documents his research into this compelling question to uncover whether this exodus of the Israelites truly happened or has the Bible clearly gotten it wrong. He journeys to Egypt, the Middle East, England and more in search for the answers in the documentary Patterns for Evidence Exodus. It will take his on a 12-year journey around the world to search for the same answers the world is waiting for and what he finds at the end, well it's up to you to decide if the evidence he uncovers validates what is written in the Bible. Using stunning animations, narrated by Kevin Sorbo, interviews with leading archaeologists like Israel Finkelstein, Kent Weeks, and David Rohl and guest appearances by Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu and Shimon Peres. This 119 minute documentary also features bonuses like Behind the Music, From Film to Book, trailers and more.

I received Patterns of Evidence Exodus compliments of Thinking Man Films and Propeller LLC for my honest review and did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review outside of the free copy of the DVD. I love it when you can find documentaries like this one that show both sides of the argument and where the division between the two sides stands. I especially love that this went beyond the story of the Israelites and showcased so much more like Abraham's journey to the fall of the walls of Jericho and what they discovered that many had never known before. I don't want to give it all away but I think Timothy Mahoney did an incredible job at his research putting this one together and well worth all 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Now for the best part, thanks to the generosity of Propeller LLC, they are providing a copy of this DVD to one lucky follower of my blog, Reviews From The Heart. The guidelines for entering the giveaway are listed below:

1. Be a follower of my blog, Reviews From The Heart.

2. "Like" Patterns of Evidence, Exodus on Facebook.

4. Leave a comment below telling me why you'd love to win a copy of this DVD. Don't forget to include your email address, so I can notify you if you are the lucky winner. You can even use the words (at) and (dot) instead of the symbols.

I will be notifying the winner by email once the giveaway ends on July 31st, so please be sure you have included your email address in your comments, otherwise I will have no way to contact you.

Grace of God ~ DVD Review and Giveaway

A man's faith will be called into question when $30,000 of the churches money goes missing. The pastor of the church along with the accountant and secretary know that if they involve the police it could cause quite the scandal among the community. They agree that hiring a private investigator to solve the crime might be a better issue. They just aren't prepared to be questioned by Detective Bill Broadly not only in regards to the missing money, but their belief in God as well.

Bill sees the labels Christians wear as hypocritical and vows to whomever he engages in a conversation that it's only a matter of time, before they are exposed for being liars and their faith is simply a cover. No matter how friendly people treat him, he vows to expose all the people he interviews as not only possible suspects but also to expose their less than favorable pasts. He truly believes that the churches caretaker, (Lorenzo Lamas) who not only has had a past riddled with theft, but also supports his family who is struggling with their sins. He believes that forgiveness is best played where people can see your actions not just hear your words.

As the investigation continues feelings between Bill and Constance, the church secretary emerge. They both talk about how life has handed them both some unlucky cards in life with both of them dealing with the affects of divorce. Constance holds on to her faith in God while Bill still believes its simply an excuse and doesn't see the true side of her faith. Despite all their best intentions to keep the rumors of the theft a secret, someone exposes the true to the local paper and soon the church is placed on the stand to defend not only the decision to not involve the police but to protect the integrity of the church members as well.

I received Grace of God: A Story of Easter Traditions compliments of Phase 4 Films and Flyby Promotions for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This is a moving movie that showcases what the real meaning is behind our faith in God and following His commandments. The movie stars such notables as John Razenberger and Erin Bethea in this 99 minute long DVD that is Dove Faith Friendly Approved for ages 12 and up. The main message of the movie is that through faith and belief, there is really rebirth and redemption. I was a bit disappointed by the way the movie ended and felt something must be sitting on the cutting room floor. It left you feeling like something was missing, but perhaps it's simply up to each viewer to decide for themselves how this movie will impact changes in their own lives. I give this one a 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Thanks to the generosity of FlyBy Promotions, that are offering a giveaway copy to one lucky follower of my blog Reviews From The Heart. Here's all you need to do to enter:

1. Be a follower of my blog Reviews From The Heart.

Roadmap Genesis - Review and Giveaway

What do you think when you hear the word, "Genesis?"

It is sad when you ask random people on the streets and hear what they have to say. When was the last time you read the book of Genesis?

If you look around the world today you can see the change it is going through and it isn't a good one. We are seeing a decline in values and kindness.

But did you know that the book of Genesis from the Bible offers us guiding principles for how to create a healthy functioning society?

The book of Genesis shows us the keys for how to build a better economy, how to value relationships, how to build a family, how to speak to one another, how to combat racism, and how to plan for the future.

We, as human beings have lost that sense of caring for the earth in hopes we might share it with future generations. We've taken advantage of things and now we are forcing nature into our own standards.

Are we leaving this place, better than it was before us? Or are we hoping that someone else will come along and take care of it?

In this eye opening documentary Roadmap Genesis, Nolan Lebovitz, a well known movie maker, turns his talents into what he believes holds to key to making our world the place God had designed it to be. Relying not only on what he learned in seminary school but interviewing some of the worlds most profound educational minds and leaders in our country, he shows us just how simple things would be if we were willing to go back to our biblical roots and God offers us the road map to do just that in the book of Genesis.

Roadmap Genesis invites Americans of all faiths to engage in a dialogue about the relevance of the Bible in the modern age. Through interviews ranging from Gov. Mike Huckabee of Fox News Channel to Rabbi David Wolpe, from Alan Dershowitz to the Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Francis George, from Erick Stakelbeck of the Christian Broadcasting Network to Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum, and many, many more, Nolan explores the rules that God has set forth to help us maintain a successful and working society.

I received Roadmap Genesis by Nolan Lebovitz compliments of Propeller/FlyBy Promotions for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review. I had never considered the simplicity of the answers for everything that has been plaguing the world could be found by going back to basics, back to the beginning and seeing God's way outlined so beautifully before. It certainly changes your perspectives on everything and offers spiritual insight into the chaos our world is becoming along with the solution to fix it. However it forces us to see things outside our own world and to learn to get along so we can make the world a better place. Individualism is ruining things and the more we think about only our needs the more chaos we will continue to see. I absolutely LOVED this documentary and believe it is well worth all 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Thanks to the generous folks at Propeller/FlyBy Promotions, they are offering a copy of Roadmap Genesis on DVD  to one lucky follower of my blog, Reviews From The Heart. Here are your guidelines:

1. Be a follower of my blog, Reviews From The Heart.

2. "Like" Roadmap Genesis Facebook page.

3. Be a resident of the US or Canada or have a US or Canadian mailing address. Please No P.O. Boxes.

I will email the winner by email once the giveaway ends on February 12th.

23 Blast - DVD Review and Giveaway

Growing up Travis Freeman was your typical boy who loved playing football. In fact between Travis and his best friend Jerry Baker, they were a true all American pair who could read each other like no one else. It was no surprise when in their senior year, Travis and Jerry would find themselves playing for the RedHounds in a small Kentucky town. Knowing this could simply be an unforgettable year for the team Travis is ready for scholarship opportunities during this season. Yet when a sinus infection invades his body, antibiotics refuse to work and subsequently lead Travis to losing his sight. How does a young man who has all his hopes and dreams laid out in front of him respond to having it all taken away?

That is the true story behind 23 Blast, a new inspirational movie from Ocean Avenue Entertainment, Toy Gun Films and Touchdown Productions. Travis will need to learn to be dependent on not only his parents, his mobility coach, his best friend and his former team to help him through this dark storm. It will take not only his athletic ability, but the courage and perseverance to digger deeper than he ever dreamed possible to find a way to play football again against all the odds and people who oppose the coach wanting him to play again.

This is truly a must see for fans of movies like Rudy and Facing the Giants, and teaches us the value of not letting anything define who God created us to be. .There truly is nothing we can't achieve with the love and support of our faith, friends and family. This movie is rated PG-13 due to the brief drinking of alcohol on school property). It runs for 98 minutes and comes loaded with some amazing special features like The Travis Freeman Story, Whatever Happens to Jerry Baker?, Bloopers, Behind the Scenes Featurette and more.

I received 23 Blast compliments of Propeller Consulting, LLC, for my honest review and did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review. The only flaw I found in the film was that it moved pretty fast in the beginning to get to Travis's blindness. At one point he has swelling in his eyelids and is diagnosed with a sinus infection and in the next scene he is being taken into surgery because the antibiotics aren't working. There is a scene in which the doctor comes out of surgery but the discussion he has is not heard in the movie. The parents are the ones to explain to Travis when he wakes from surgery what has happened. You learn through the Travis Freeman Story and subsequent information on the website that the infection destroyed his optic nerve which rendered him blind. That would have been helpful to understand in the movie. Overall a great film that teach how to move past obstacles and find the light at the end. I rate this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The Identical - DVD Review and Giveaway

There sometimes comes a movie that really impacts you in a powerful way, portraying just what sacrifice, unconditional love and forgiveness looks like. The Identical is just that movie. Starring Ashley Judd, Ray Liotta and Blake Rayne, that take viewers back in almost a parallel story of sorts you can't help buy compare at times to Elvis Presley. It begins in the mid 1930's in Tennessee, in the midst of the depression. For William and Helen Helmsley it means a whole lot more. As William struggles to find work in a depression laced town, Helen gives birth to twin sons. Knowing how difficult it is to make ends meet for just themselves, William arrives to a revival tent meeting being led by Reece Wade (Ray Liotta) who is telling those present of their own recent troubles of trying to conceive and now being told they will never be able to have children. He asks those in attendance to pray for God's favor to provide and in William's case, the solution to their financial problem.

He invites the Wade's over to announce that with heart-felt prayers by both of them, that he believes God is asking them to give one of their sons to the childless couple to raise. It's a tough decision for the Hemsley's but they believe giving one of their sons to a God-fearing couple is just the answer to the prayers. William begs Reece to never tells the boy as he grows older about his birth and subsequent adoption to the Wade family and they vow to raise him up in a good Christian home.

As the two boys grow their talents in music become apparent. Drexel Helmsley becomes the newest singing sensation while Reece tries to convince Ryan to follow what he believes is a calling in his own life, to follow in his father's footsteps and become a preacher. Soon it becomes too much for Ryan trying to live up to his father's expectations for him despite this overwhelming desire for music and they soon part ways. Along the way Ryan is constantly being asked if he realizes how much he looks like Drexel, to which he is genuinely humble. It never dawns on him that the two might be related no matter how much Ryan feels compelled to copy Drexel's music style. How it plays out in the end is beautiful, heart-warming and one that you will be sure to want to watch again and again.

I received The Identical by City of Peace Films compliments of Propeller LLC for my honest review in exchange for a complimentary copy of the DVD. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained in this review are my own personal opinion. The music in the movie is solid and one I found myself wishing I had the CD for, which is also available. It truly takes you back to those times when Elvis Presley's soulfull melodies filled the airwaves. The Identical DVD is about 107 minutes in length and contains bonus features which include, the making of The Identical, Behind the Scenes and my favorite, the music of The Identical. Perfect for all ages and is Dove Family approved for 12 and up. I think anyone can truly enjoy it and that is why I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars!

Susie's Hope Giveaway and Review

We see it happening more and more and often times graphic images of abused animals find their way onto our Facebook feeds. We see the commercials with Sara McLauglin's song In the Arms of the Angel, tied to the humane society commercials. But what matters more is how we respond to those images. It's simply too easy to change the channels or bypass the images as if we never saw them. The ones of animals that have become the voiceless victims of horrible crimes.

Left for dead, these animals are beaten, trained as bait for fights, burned and disfigured with a pretty dark outlook for their future. Some can be rehabilitated, but sadly most are simply put down because the costs for their medical care is beyond what some counties and states can provide. Local volunteers often fund raise but there are far too many victims and not enough help.

In the DVD release of Susie's Hope from Stone's Throw Films, the topic of animal abuse and the laws surrounding the issue are the highlight. While this is Dove Family Approved for audiences of 12 and up, the images portrayed in the movie are graphic. This movie was based on the true story of one such case that prompted the law in North Carolina to be rewritten to give harsher sentences to people who commit crimes against animals.

The story is brought to life when Donna Lawrence, (Emmanuell Vaguer, 40 Days and 40 Nights), an animal lover at heart, befriends a neighbor's pit bull who is left alone outside to act as a guard dog chained to a tree. Often left at out night, the barking becomes a nuisance and concern to Donna and her neighbor and best friend Ramona Hodges, (Andrea Powell, Ender's Game, The Twilight: Breaking Dawn Saga: Part 2), who bring the dog food and water. Donna's husband Roy (Burgess Jenkins, Remember the Titans), is concerned for their unborn child that they have waited so long to have. He warns Donna and Ramona to stay away and let Animal Control handle the issue. But seeing the outcome before it happens, Donna is attacked by the pitbull and is left for dead.

In a twist of fate, Donna and Roy learn that the attack has left them with no ability to have future children. Dealing with the effects of the attack, Donna struggles with nightmares and fears of being attacked. She even questions what God's purpose was in her being allowed to survive if she can't have children. When she finds a badly abused puppy left for dead in a park, she finds an outlet not only for her own healing but that of the puppy she names Susie. This is definitely a heart warming story of hope and to bring attention to animal abuse and the laws surrounding the cases of animal cruelty.

I received Susie's Hope by Stone's Throw Films compliments of Fly By Promotions for my honest review. Except for the free copy of the DVD,  I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. This is a great movie to highlight the changes that need to be made to ensure that punishments against animal cruelty cases require more than a simple fine and probation, but now include jail time or more for repeat offenders. This gives a voice to those victims of animal abuse everywhere for those that cannot speak for themselves. I think Martin Luther King Jr summed it up best at the conclusion of the movie, "It may be true that the law cannot change the heart, but it can restrain the heartless." This one deserves all 5 out of 5 stars in this reviewer's opinion. This is a message about love, loss and redemption. A portion of the profits of this movie will go to the American Humane Association. Susie has been named the 2014 American Hero Dog.The DVD runs approximately 105 minutes.
