Rescue

Rescue can be defined in a number of ways. You can be rescued or you can be the one who rescues. In this case, rescue is also the name of the company that Peter Webster works for as an EMT.

Little did he know that his fate was about to meet on a rescue call one night when he pulls Shelia Arsenault from her over-turned car on a foggy country road, barely missing a head on collision with a tree. She is legally drunk and manages a short stay in the hospital where Pete is drawn to her and she is him. They fall in love and in a short time she announces that she is pregnant.

Peter's hopes and dreams for a future are suddenly thrust forward as he finds a way to move out of his parents home and find a way to make a living for him and Shelia. Life for them is a serious of bad decisions beginning on their fateful encounter and soon Peter discovers that Shelia isn't so quick to give up her alcoholic lifestyle even though she is expecting. Will fate rear it's ugly head again or will they both find it within themselves to rescue each other for the sake of their baby?

In the latest novel by Anita Shreve, Rescue, draws you in to the details of the decisions each person makes in the story. Peter strives for a better life than he had and now with a baby and family to care for, is more determined to make that happen. Shelia is looking for a way out of a bad relationship that is still haunting her from her past, and when Peter comes to her rescue, he does so in more ways than one.
