The True Spirit of Christmas

I know you might be thinking, it's only June, why are you even reviewing a Christmas book now? Gotta love all those people who make their preparations early in the year and thought why not share this incredible lovely children's book that would make a perfect gift for a young child this Christmas. In fact in our home, one of the first presents our kids would open on Christmas Eve was always a Christmas book and new pajamas. That is the way we spent the anticipated night before Christmas was sharing an exceptional story that outlines what the Christmas Spirit is all about.

In Dorothy Thurgood Manning's book, The True Spirit of Christmas, she introduces us to Maddie, a child who loves Christmas as much as any child can. But in the course of preparing for Christmas, Maddie loses sight on what the Spirit of Christmas is truly about. The only thing she is dreaming about besides visions of sugar plums is the abundance of presents she is promised to get each year. She even has a horrible attitude at school when it comes to making presents for her parents and younger brother, and instead of wrapping them, shoves them under her bed with her dirty socks.

It isn't until she gets a visit from Santa, that Maddie is given a hard look at what Christmas is supposed to be about, the art of giving and not getting. It's about putting those you love before yourself and soon Maddie realizes if she doesn't change, she isn't going to get anything at all.

I received The True Spirit of Christmas by Dorothy Thurgood Manning compliments of 33 Loretta Kids Books and the author herself for an honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation outside of a free copy of the book for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are my own. This is a great book to help children understand it isn't about receiving but in giving, in helping others out and sharing in the joy and love of family during Christmas. The artwork is beautiful and love that the story is told in rhyme which will definitely appeal to a child. The book is short but straight to the point and will undoubtedly be a favorite of your child's each Christmas. I would rate this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
