Haley Ames is still trying to come to terms with the death of her husband Sam who was killed in Afghanistan. She faces so many things she regrets not saying to him, but especially the one where she never got the chance to tell him she was pregnant. After being married for three years, it seemed that their marriage was more goodbyes than I love yous! Was it possible that Sam ever truly loved her or was it just the idea of being married to a woman who was strong enough to face his constant deployments with strength, and never needing anything more from him? She wished she might know that answer but there is no way she can ask him now.

Stephen Ames faces his own set of regrets when not only his best friend but mirror twin was killed before he ever had a chance at reconciling their relationship. Having always been the best of friends, Stephen had hoped that after high school they would both head off to college together, but when Sam broke the news that he was enlisting, he broke that bond between them forever. No more would they have to face answering questions of just who was whom and being constantly compared to one another. No they finally have the unique identities they always dreamed of but not in the way they had hoped it would work out. After years Stephen now has to face a life he didn't know existed, that his brother was married and he had never known.

When Stephen shows up at Haley's doorstep, neither of them are prepared to deal with the secret Sam kept from them, the knowledge that either of them existed. For Haley, it was like looking into the mirror of the past and seeing the husband she longed believed died, and for Stephen it was an opportunity to put some of the missing pieces of his life hopefully back together through talking with Haley. If she would simply put down the gun she was holding on him. How can he convince her that he is who he says he is, since Sam never said one word and neither did their parents to Haley? How can you keep that kind of thing a secret?

This is such an exceptional novel that truly tugs at the heart strings of regret and acceptance with often times things we can't change. It's an effort to move forward in the direction of God's leading and placing the opinions of what others think where they belong, behind our own heart's desires. Such a beautiful and touching story of love, widowhood and estrangement with a wonderfully happy ending. The book ends with a reading discussion guide and a heart to heart conversation with Beth over the details behind this novel. Without a doubt, in my opinion, her best novel to date and well deserving of 5 out of 5 stars. @bethvogt @ Howard_Books

Catch A Falling Star

Have you ever seen a falling star? Have you ever made a wish upon a star? Do you believe that those wishes can come true?

Too often in a woman's life, we come to believe all those fairy tales our parents read to us. That there is a happily ever after waiting for all of us, someday, some where, but is it really true?

Kendall Haynes has been wondering about that now that she is thirty-six and it seems like everyone around her is finding their own happily ever after. All of her friends, co-workers and now even her younger sister is getting married while Kendall has nothing going on except an exceptional career as a doctor running her own private practice in Colorado. She's beginning to wonder if all those fairy tales that she heard growing up are simply just stories, ones that will never come true. No marriage, no falling head over heels in love and no family of her own. Just her and Sully, her overly eager goldendoodle. There aren't even any prospects on her immediate horizon.

Gearing up for a dinner with her girlfriends at On the Border to plan their upcoming all girls vacation, she is immediately called into help when a teenage boy seems to be having an allergic reaction to his food and is finding it difficult to breath. Apparently even his father sitting with him, can't recognize the signs and when she intervenes and administers first aid while having him call 911, she is more than upset with his father. However, when Griffin Walker tells her that he is not his father, but brother, she still finds it hard that he doesn't realize how critical food allergies can be and how Ian, his younger brother could have died if not for her quick thinking and intervention.

She soon finds an unlikely prospect on her horizon when it seems like the only thing her and Griffin will ever become is acquaintances, if not enemies. Griffin has his own set of worries with not only dealing with the fact he has been appointed guardian of his younger brother Ian after their parents died in a plane crash, he is also facing his own crisis. He's been grounded as an Air Force pilot fighting bouts of vertigo, until he is well enough to fly again. However it doesn't seem likely that that will ever happen and now matter where he goes in the small town of Colorado, he seems to always wind up face to face with Dr. Kendall Haynes.

This is my second book of Beth's and I love the interactions she creates with her characters. They don't fall in love at first sight and in this case, it will take more than a chance encounter to get these two strong willed characters to see what God has placed right in front of them. This is a great story about what goes on in some adoption cases where things don't always go smoothly for the adoptive parents. I think the story is genuine and realistic and gives the reader a different mindset into the lives of adoptive parents than they may have had before reading this one. I know it did for me. I personally rate this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars and can't wait for many more novels from Beth K. Vogt in the future.

Wish You Were Here

For Allison Denman it seems like she lost control of her life along the way. Now it seems without realizing it that she has managed to find a guy that is a take charge kind of guy. Well, it seems like not mentioning the kissing part is just one of the deeper secrets Allison is keeping locked up inside. She has put God on the back burner for so long, it seems like it might be too late to seek His help in this issue or is it?

In the latest novel Wish You Were Here by Beth K. Vogt, we see what happens when you try and keep things a secret, even from the person you are suppose to marry and worse yet, from God. In this wonderful romantic fiction we see how important trust and honesty is in all our relationships from the ones we have with God as well as the ones we have with our friends and spouses. Beth gives the readers really insight into some deeper issues that Allison has and she is trying to manage in her own way instead of seeking some professional help.

Similar to The Runaway Bride, which is talked about between Allison and Meghan in this one, it shows that we have to be honest with everyone no matter whose feelings may get hurt along the way. Some secrets are never meant to be hidden in the dark shadows. No matter how bad you think things are, running away from them only delays the inevitable. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend this to your hopeful romance fans everywhere.
