You're Gonna Love Me

Nick Chastain was a risk taker. There wasn't anything that he wouldn't do. From extreme sports and even the occasional dare, he never turned down an offer. He believed in living life to the fullest despite what risks there might be that something could go wrong. It was this attitude that both attracted Samantha Winters to him. They met at an accounting class and for Nick, she was his biggest challenge. They attempted to make a go at it with their relationship but with Sam's fears that one day Nick would be killed, they abruptly ended things on a bitter note.

It wasn't Sam's fault she felt this way, after watching her dad die while skiing, she knew that something life was ugly. This is why she wouldn't do anything or be with anyone who took those kinds of risks. Yet even after their breakup Sam had second thoughts and tried to reach out to Nick in hopes they might be able to work something out, but all her emails and text messages were never turned. That might be why she was more than surprised when she headed back to Idaho to care for her grandmother who was injured while horseback riding. It also gave her a much needed break working for a boss she hates, but she isn't one to quit when the going got tough. At least might give her time to put her own life in perspective.

When she saw Nick at the hospital, it definitely put things in perspective. He was the one to help her grandmother get help when he saw her fall from her horse. He is also more than surprised because Nick isn't that same guy as he was two years ago. He desperately wanted to tell Sam about the new life he was facing and the challenges that came with almost losing his life, two years ago, but it might also mean giving up on the chance to love anyone else again. If only they could find a way to resolve the past and find hope for a future.

I received You're Gonna Love Me by Robin Lee Hatcher compliments of NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishers. This is the second novel in the Thunder Creek series, and I absolutely LOVE the blunt honesty that comes across in this novel. Both characters are changed by something that made them face the certainty of death and it forever changed how they looked to the future. It is going to take some kindly advice from Sam's grandmother to put things in the light that they truly are. Only God knows what the future holds and to think otherwise doesn't convey that faith that they both claim to hold on to. A Discussion Guide is included at the conclusion of this book that would make this a wonderful book club selection. I give this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Keeper of the Stars

Forgiveness often times in some people's minds means that we must also forget but never does it say that in the Bible when we are to forgive. I guess forgetting might grow softer in the years that follow or it may never go away, but forgiveness is something that offers a degree of freedom we might never experience unless we give it. It isn't so much to allow someone off the hook for something that they have done, but it merely says in a way, I'm not going to hold on to this any longer, I am letting go of carrying around this burden anymore.

In the novel Keeper of the Stars, the third book in the Kings Meadow Series, forgiveness is the theme that surrounds Penny Cartwright, who refuses to forgive Trevor Reynolds for the role he may have played in her brother's death. At least in her mind it is his fault. Had her younger brother Brad, not been hired as a drummer in Reynold's band, he might very well still be alive today. Even though Trevor was involved in the very same accident, Penny refuses to offer him anything in the way of listening to his side of things or even why he has suddenly appeared at their family's ranch to offer his help. She wants nothing to do with him, even if every single girl in town can't help but notice Trevor's good looks and country boy charm.

Penny can't seem to let go of all her sorrow, bitterness and sadness that is consuming her every single time she looks at Trevor. The only person he is initially able to break through to is her father, Rodney who could use the help around the ranch especially in light of his son's death and the fact that he isn't getting any younger. If there was only a way to reach Penny, and let her know how important it is to begin to move forward and that in the days and months ahead it will get easier just like it did when they buried his wife and her mother 12 years ago. Perhaps all she needs is time and for now, he is going to accept Trevor's offer of help and hopes that during the time they spend together things may get easier. Trevor didn't cause the accident and that is something that Penny will have to contend with. .

I love that forgiveness is the central theme of this novel because of the vital importance it plays in the life of people every day who feel a sense of entitlement of holding onto grudges like that punishes the offender somehow, but in the end all it does it hurt the one holding on to it by relieving the circumstance over and over again. It also vital why the Bible says we must forgive, because we never know if we will ever see someone again because tomorrow's are never guaranteed and once that time is gone, we can never say we are sorry. That is a regret that is too hard to carry around with us. There is a great discussion guide included at the conclusion of this novel and in my opinion, this one was well worth every single 5 out of 5 stars.

Love Without End

For me, there has always been a flair for romance and the love of horses for as long as I can remember. Just looking at the cover of a novel that pairs a young woman and a man wearing a cowboy hat is enough to make me sigh! Couple that with a great premise of two people who have experienced loss in their marriages that make them both not sure if they are ready to get back in the saddle for romance or love anytime soon.

Robin Hatcher takes her readers back to a much loved setting she wrote about in A Promise Kept where she vowed to help Chet Leonard find a second chance at love again. She begins her latest series of novels with Love Without End. It's a timeless story of second chances and how much more full our lives are when we are given a second chance at happiness and love when we least expect it.

Chet Leonard has been trying to come to terms with why his wife left him and his three sons after the death of their oldest son, Rick. She simply up and left, subsequently divorcing him after leaving the ranch. Not sure it was because life with Chet would be forever a reminder of Rick, but it definitely left Chet believing that love had all but forgotten him and headed for the sunset instead. Now he was struggling with how to keep the ranch profitable after a lifetime of being in his family for generations. He would surely hate to lose it all now. Thankfully just having Anna moving back into the guesthouse after losing her husband would help give them hope again. Even though she wasn't family by blood, the Leonard's legacy was kept alive but the day Anna showed up on their land back in the early 1940's.

Kimberly Welch could hardly believe that life had taken the turn it had. A dead end is more likely where she found herself. Her husband death at 40 from a sudden and unexpected heart attack would have thrown anyone for a loop. But it was what he hadn't shared with her in their marriage that made trust an issue. Leaving them with more debt than they could manage, she lost first her husband, then her house and car and finally everything she owned except for her fifteen-year-old daughter Tara, and it looked like she was slowly losing her every day that went by. Thankfully her friend Janet, stepped in and offered them a place to stay so they wouldn't have to live on the street and along with that, a gift of a horse, for Tara to enable her to find her way back to life again. They only needed to convince Chet Leonard to help them break the horse in for Tara after being neglected by its previous owner. But is love without end or simply a detour in two broken lives and hearts? Only time will tell in this amazing novel!

This is such a remarkable story because it unites more than two hearts, but two families and two generations. Robin utilizes the combination of past and present lives of the Leonard family to convey the depth of the love of ranching but also for the love of family. You get a sense of betrayal for both Kimberly and Chet when they look at their past marriages and realize where the flaws resulted that cause both to fall apart so early on. The novel also conveys that often times God uses the difficulties and trials in our own lives to bring us to new beginnings and new hope. I loved this novel and read it immediately the day it arrived. Being a horse lover as a child, stories like this one fed my book lover's heart and gained a well deserved 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. There is even a sneak peek at the next novel in the series Whenever You Come Around as well as a Reader's Discussion Guide at the conclusion of this novel.

For as long as I can remember, I've been a huge fan of western romance fiction. Something about the simplicity of living a life in the wilderness where danger lurks on the horizon and romance can be found sweeping us away into another time. For those that love Western Romance as much as I do, you might want to pick up the latest novel in the Western Bride Collection, Four Weddings and a Kiss. This one combines four amazing romance stories from authors Margaret Brownley, Debra Clopton, Mary Connealy and Robin Lee Hatcher, who are experts at making us fall for those tall drinks of water and falling in love over and over again on the western range, in one amazing book.

In Spitfire Sweetheart from Mary Connealy, Maizy MacGregor takes on Rylan Carstens when her independent spirit causes Rylan to quite literally fall for her. Resolving in her mind that she will undoubtedly grow old as a spinster, never being the married wife and having children like her stepsister, Rose. Only the last thing he imagined he'd be agreeing to when he decided to take her case, was taking her along for the ride. Her family has sent her away due to the rumors circulating in the small Colorado town of Twin Springs, especially with her taking the initiative to hire a bounty hunter to find her father's money before they were destitute and without a home seeing as they were the wealthiest family in town. Silver finds that accompanying Jared might be the only way he can find Bob with nothing more to go on than a faded picture and the description of just about every man in town. It will take more than luck for them to find him before time runs out.

They are simply that good! I love her attention to detail from the wording she uses on her character's dialogue to the detailed descriptions of the towns her characters ride in to. I love strong female characters that aren't afraid to take on whatever responsibilities life tosses their way and such is the case of Silver Matlock. While she is afraid of the unknown, she is willing to take chances most women wouldn't like riding out late at night to convince a bounty hunter, she's going whether he agrees to it or not. This one easily rates a 5 out of 5 western stars in my book. Can't wait for more from Robin!!!

"In the two weeks since moving into the log house, Allison and Gizmo had explored several paths on their daily walks. I was surprised by the path Robin took her characters in and found myself wishing some things would have gone different ways. At the conclusion of this novel, Robin takes you behind the scenes for the real-life details of the inspiration for this story. One that shows that even though our time table for things we believe God wants in our lives, is a very different one than God has in place at times. In the end, however, ALL things work together for the good of those that love the Lord. I easily give this one a 4 out of 5 stars.

She and the rest of his family had believed that he was dead and now he returns home to convince them all to give him a second chance. But how can you simply pick up the pieces of a broken heart left long ago when Tyson left every single one of them without looking back?

Now that he is running for the office of Senator as a write in candidate, he offers a compromise to Diana and her mother. If they will move in to his home, and attempt to act as his wife and mother in law for six months, long enough for him to win the election, he will provide them with all they will ever need in the way of money unless he can convince them that he's a truly changed man for the better and wishes to win the heart of his wife again. But is that even possible now after all this time?

When Tyson left he was searching for happiness and acceptance in every area except through God. When he found Him, he realized he couldn't spend his life running from his arrogant and controlling father and the new prodigal son returns home to face the consequences of his actions. What he finds there shows us all that redemption can be found if we are willing to take the time to see the changes God can bring about in everyone. I easily rate this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars and found myself rooting for Tyson all the way despite the odds stacked against him.

Mary Jo Parker arrives in Colton, Kansas hoping to meet her soon-to-be husband Daniel Garrett at the train station. However when she arrives, he is no where to be seen. After waiting for well over two hours, Mary Jo goes searching for the husband that has apparently forgotten about her, but when she rushes into the local church, she soon realizes that the reason Daniel is late is he is now dead and she has just found herself at his funeral. With no funds available, Mary Jo hopes she can find a way to put her talents as a seamstress to work to earn enough money to return home. Will love find her in Kansas instead?

An Ever After Summer is showcased by author Debra Clopton, another first time author experience for me. I actually loved this one the best because of the tall, dark, stranger that Ellie Smith meets as she exits the train hoping to find a man in need of a wife and someone to care for his now orphaned daughter. She is more than horrified to learn that the ad she answered was leaving a few key points out, the biggest being no "Bible-thumpers" need apply. Well Mathew McConnell has another thing coming if he thinks he can simply put her back on the train when she is determined to make this marriage work in Honey Springs, Texas.

Autumn's Angel by Robin Lee Hatcher introduces us to Luvena Abbott who comes to Nebraska in search of a husband and father for her nieces and nephews. Only thing is that Clay Birch was adamant to make sure that his mail order bride was a single woman with no children. Just how is he supposed to bring a ready made family to Grand Coeur, a place that is certainly no place for children with all the saloons in town. Only how can Clay send Luvena packing when she has no way to pay for train fare not only for herself but for the children as well. Can she find a way to reach Clay's heart to open wide enough to accept them all?

And lastly Winter Wedding Bells by Mary Connealy, one of my favorite historical authors rounds out the collection taking us to Wyoming to aid a dying man with the hopes of finding a mother for his young boys before he time is up? How will he be able to get anyone to answer his ad when the prospects she must has will be for a lifetime of love and his time is just about up? Can Megan McBride show David Laramie that the only one who can tell him when his time is up in God?

Each of these wonderful historical romances are short enough to get through when you have a little time but want the effect of a full length novel. These introduce the reader wonderfully to the historical romance authors that are showcased in this collection. There is something off on the ads that each recipient answers and the truth is bound to be discovered sooner or later. In each of these, ultimately it takes time and patience to show that God has plans in everything in our lives whether we know it or not.

I rate this one hands down a full 5 out of 5 stars just based on the different perspectives you gain from each author taking their turn at a common topic, in this case, mail order brides and can't wait for the next collection coming soon, Four Weddings and A Kiss. This is such a wonderful idea and I love reading collections like this one. It really feels like you are getting four novels in one.

Belonging

Felicia's newest venture in life after leaving behind the life of caring for her adoptive parents, Britta and Lars Kristofferson who died hours within each other in their older years, is moving to Wyoming and taking on the job as the new school teacher for Frenchman's Bluff. It hadn't been an easy decision to make ever since learning that the only reason the Kristofferson's adopted her was because they had been childless, in their 60's and were looking for an older girl to help Britta in the kitchen with chores and to be a comfort to them in their old age.

After Felicia's mother died when she was a young girl and their father left them, she and her younger sister and older brother were placed in Dr. Clay's Asylum for Little Wanderers until they were each adopted and went their own separate ways. Now with the Kristofferson's deaths, Felicia is finally able to begin a path in her own life that doesn't have anyone telling her what to do. Her only desire is to pour forth her passion into teaching and forget all about love and romance.

Colin Murphy, proprietor of Murphy's Mercantile in Frenchman's Bluff isn't looking forward to the towns new teacher. He was one of two that voted against hiring Felicia Kristofferson and instead wanted a man to come and teach. The past teachers had been more concerned with finding husbands that they were in the welfare of the children they were teaching. Now he finds just caring for his young daughter, Charity and running the store will keep him from ever searching for love again. His wife Margaret died at an early age of 26 when Charity was only 3, so she really never knew her mother, but Colin couldn't forget her. But will God have different plans for Colin and Felicia?



In the novel Belonging by Robin Lee Hatcher, the reader is taken back to a simple time back in the 1800's and the story is here is one of belonging. For Felicia, it's trying to find not only her siblings that have been long separated through adoption, but also trying to find her own place in the world. For Colin, it's trying to find out what God's calling is in his own life, he faces being a single father that is often frowned upon by the wealthy Summerville family, who sees that Charity can use a mother's influence in her tom-boy like ways and they have the perfect person picked out for him, their own daughter, Kathleen, who also is widowed with two young girls.

As the story builds, you can see the town's people coming together in a variety of different ways and even using Felicia's own experience being adopted to help two boys that are being adopted by the Carpenter family that are being difficult at trying to fit in as well. Through it all, God's love always comes shining through and soon the town will see that each person is needed to make a body complete. This novel is part of the Where The Heart Lives Series and one I received compliments of Zondervan Publishers and Net Galley for my honest opinion. I absolutely LOVED this one and rate it a happily ever after, 5 out of 5 stars.
