Ask anyone over the age of 50, where were you when you heard the news of JFK being shot and killed, they will be able to tell you all the details much like those of us that were around when 9/11 occurred. These are events that marked a tragic time in our country's history that many still can't seem to deal with. There are still so many unanswered questions even after all these years.
In the book, Dear Mrs. Kennedy, The World Shares It's Grief Letters, November 1963, by Jay Mulvaney and Paul De Angelis, this moving and heartfelt story allows you to revisit that time in history when for over four days, Mrs. Kennedy received more than 1 million letters from people who were impacted by JFK's death. Some are from VIP's and celebrities and some are from everyday ordinary people as well as ones from grade school children. Here's one such example from the 3rd grade class of Douglas School in Illinois:
Dear Mrs. Kennedy,
We have just heard that President Kennedy died a few minutes ago, and we wanted to tell you how sad we are.
President Kennedy was a good president and a great man.
Our country will miss him very much.
Sincerely,
The Third Grade Class
Douglas School
Galesburg, Illinois
This is a collection of wonderful letters that describe our prayers and grief alongside one of the most graceful First Women of all time. What a great gift book for anyone who loves history or the Kennedy's. I received this book compliments of TLC Book Tours for my honest review and absolutely loved reading through this collection of letters. This one rates a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.

G'morn Kat ~ Oh, how I will NEVER forget that day. In Hawaii, living in military housing, 2 of our neighbors came out in the yard with champagne & celebrated the Presidents's death ... it is embedded in my mind the cruelty of those people.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway ...
How are you all coming along? I do hope things are better.
Have a beautiful day ~

Very nice review.
ReplyDeleteI turned 2 the day Kennedy was shot - that's right, he was shot on my birthday. Needless to say, I've had a certain affinity to the Kennedys ever since. I know how this fact affected me throughout my life, so it would be nice to read about how it affected others.

I'm so happy you enjoyed the book. I did too, and was really surprised at the emotions it stirred up in me, since I have no memories of the assassination, but it was so moving. Thanks so much for being on the tour.
ReplyDeletePresident Kennedy was killed before I was born, but I've always been fascinated by his wife - she was always so graceful and poised.

That is one moment I remember vividly, it was such a shock. The whole world was in mourning, my family also. This book is valuable in it's content as it indicates the real compassion of the people, and how God brought comfort and peace to the suffering. I would like to read this book and hand it down to my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I consider this type of item an heirloom. Thank you for this thoughtful giveaway and the chance to win it. I hope I win it.

4th grade St Marys Catholic School. A sad day indeed. I think JFK was the last of the the good ones in the white house. I think Jackie was the classiest first lady ever. None can compare to her. Thanks for sharing. Anne
