Killfile

"I know what you're thinking. Most of the time, it's not impressive. Trust me."

Dozen of people move around me on the sidewalks in L.A.'s financial district, all of them on autopilot. Plugged into their phones, eyes locked on their screens, half-listening to the person on the other end, sleepwalking as they head for their jobs or their first hits of caffeine. The stuff inside their heads can barely even be called thoughts; slogans and buzzwords; half-remembered songs; the latest domestic cage match with whomever they left at home; dramas and gossip involving people they'll never meet in real life. And sex. Lots of sex."

That's what I live with constantly, all around me like audible smog. Most of the time, it's just annoying. But today, it makes it easy to find my targets. They're fully awake, jangling with adrenaline and anxiety. They stand out, hard and bright, a couple of rhinestones glittering in the usual muck."(pg 2).

John Smith can so more than simply read your thoughts. He can alter your actions and bring to mind anything he wants to you believe or imagine. It is why the CIA wanted him to work for him and also the reason why he left. Now as a private consultant, he decides whom he'll work for and also how much they can pay him. There isn't anything he doesn't know before they begin negotiations. When billionaire mogul Everett Sloan makes him an offer he has desired his entire life, silence to those ongoing, never-ending thoughts, it is simply too good of an offer to pass up. Sloan believes that a former employee of his, Eli Preston has stolen an algorithm that he has developed and now is employing to make himself untold amounts of wealth for his clients. Sloan wants his memory erased before he can become a serious threat to his company and John Smith is just the man to do it.

During a scheduled meeting with Preston, Smith's identify is compromised and now he becomes the hunted along with Preston's young associate Kelsey Foster and it will be a battle of intelligence, cyber terrorism and mind control that they have never faced before, and ultimately it may in fact cost John more than he ever imagined or thought possible.

I received Killfile by Christopher Farnsworth compliments of William Morrow, a division of Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this novel in exchange for my fair and unbiased review. I absolutely LOVED this edge of your seat psychological thriller and it is truly non stop action. What I loved the most about this novel is that is vastly different from anything I have read and makes you wonder what would stand in the way of a man who could read your thoughts and could kill you without you even realizing what is happening. How would he be used by our own government and even worse his enemies if they found out what he could do? I only hope, that this novel is considered for the big screen because it is fresh, innovative and definitely worth the price of a movie ticket to see this played out in theaters. For me, this was a definitive 4 out of 5 stars and only wanes from the final star based on sexual content and language that some readers might find offensive according to my review standards. All in all, a definite addition to my must read by Christopher Farnsworth in the future.

The Intercept - Giveaway and Review

July 4th is usually a time when most of us are looking forward to spending some time with our families, but when an attempted airline hi-jacking on Scandinavian Flight 903 is stopped by six heroic passengers and crew, it seems there is more there than just an ill conceived plan. Jeremy Fisk, a detective assigned to NYPD's Intelligence Division believes it may have just been a diversion to a much deeper terrorist plot. Having worked with bringing down Osama Bin Laden and deciphering clues from his network, he believes that something big is going to happen in New York and soon. As he works with other agencies to break down the passenger manifest to see if anyone interacted with the hi-jacker while in route to New York. He soon finds another man on the plane, Baada Bin-Hezam, has terrorist backgrounds but seems his plan was to stage the hi-jacking with another man so he could find his way into New York to simply disappear until it was time.

Now it's a race against time for Jeremy Fisk and his team to try and find a proverbial needle in the haystack before his terrorist plan is attempted. On the heels of the biggest 4th of July celebration planned along the Hudson River, there is also the dedication ceremony for the new Freedom Tower at Ground Zero. If Jeremy and his team can't locate Baada Bin-Hezam in time, he wonders which target may have the greatest threat. Will it be a bomb, a deadly viral assault, or will it be bigger than any of them could ever possibly imagine? It's simply a race against time and the clues are getting harder and harder to find.

In the latest suspense thriller from Dick Wolf, the legendary talent behind the iconic Law & Order TV drama, he makes his literary debut with this extraordinary tale filled with the ingenious twists and high-wire drama that we have come to expect from this master storyteller in The Intercept. The reader is in for a roller coaster ride as each new lead that Fisk chases soon fizzles to another dead end while the time continues to edge closer to the 4th of July. If you love suspense action thrillers, then this will be a must read for you to pick up and enjoy.

I received The Intercept by Dick Wolf, compliments of William Morrow, a division of Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review. The storyline was amazing but the thing I didn't care for was how much the book jumped around between different aspects of the story in the beginning. At one point he is working with Osama Bin Laden and the next chapter they are working with trying to find clues amongst his affects and it's apparent he is now dead. There needs to be a little bit more continuity to help the reader maintain that connection, and I found myself flipping back pages to see if I missed a page along the way. Yet all in all by 1/3 of the way through the storyline is gripping and soon your buried deep with Detective Fisk to uncover the plot before it's too late. In my opinion, I'd rate this one a 4 out of 5 stars.

The Ocean and The Hourglass

The Mariner could be the next great superhero, or could it possibly be the Prodigy? My mind travels to far off lands and oceans where the characters jump to life with every page I turn. I want to reach inside of the book and take care of the main character, Nicholas Miles. He is only a teenager, but one who has been delivered a hard life! With no father to guide him, and a mother who can only find peace through the bottle, Nicholas attaches himself to the only thing he finds real, The Mariner! A comic book about a man who is one with the ocean and has remarkable superpowers. Nicholas finds himself in the only reality he finds comforting, his comic books.

As he gets to school, he is confronted by the school bully. Mark and his gang of high school thugs are always on the hunt for easy prey to pick on and Nicholas is usually the target! With his favorite comic book torn to shreds, and tears running down his face he finds the strength to stand up, gather his thoughts, walk out school to the place he knew he could order another Mariner Comic, the Library! Finding his way to the library in the freezing cold is no ordinary feat! He has challenges along the way and once he gets there, he finds Mr. Thompson, the librarian, asking questions why Nicholas is not in school again. Of course, Mr. Thompson knows better and has been one of the few friends Nicholas has! Nicholas dodging explanations quickly asks if he can order another comic book, but the librarian has a better idea! As he leads Nicholas to private section where special and rare books are held, he tells Nicholas of a book that is so special that it has rules attached. Seeing the hourglass next to the book Nicholas asks what it is for and Mr. Thompson explains the 5 rules of the book. Nicholas promises to follow the rules and starts reading once the librarian has left the room. What adventures await him as he quickly finds himself immersed within its pages.

The rest you will have to find out for yourself as I would not want to spoil the adventure! I found this book extremely exciting, exhilarating, and action packed with adventures at every turn of the page! Dan O'Brien has a great writing style that does not confuse the reader with overly difficult character development, but with a grace that engulfs you into believing every character in the book picturing in your mind what each one looks like. I loved this book and would definitely recommend not only to young adults, but to reading audiences from children, school systems, science fiction, to adult readers as well.

I received The Ocean and The Hourglass compliments of Dan O'Brien for my honest review and I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars! Would definitely recommend to my children and others to read! Thank you Dan for coming up with an original book that I can only somewhat compare to The Never-Ending Story, written by Michael Ende. The Ocean and The Hourglass, a wonderful Book with twists and turns abound within its pages for all to read!

Oil: A Novel

Just what do you think would happen if all the countries that supply us with oil, suddenly found their supplies at risk? There has been talk lately of the recent natural gas find in Israel and some believe that oil may lie within that country as well. If it were in fact true, Israel would move to the top of the super power list for supplying not only natural gas but oil as well.

However, if that were to happen then the countries that have become Israel's biggest enemies would really find ways to destroy and wipe her off the face of the map as so many countries have already stated their threats.

Now in the latest novel by Jeff Nesbit, Oil: A Novel, set this up as the underlying premise of this story. Iran, Iraq, Russia, Saudi Arabia, North Korea and China have a vital stake in trying to vie for the top position as an oil supplier to the world. The main problem with finding oil has been its difficult extraction for the shale in which it is located. Environmentalists want to make sure that the land and resources are not harmed and when a process is discovered that will allow that to happen, everyone wants a piece of the shale.

Now power begins to shift by those that want it the most and using the legends from the Middle East of the prophecy regarding the Twelfth Imam and the Mahdi, they will make sure that all signs point to the rise of these figures and shift the balance of power in the Middle East forever. Now whatever peace has been achieved up to this point will now be placed on the table and what role will Israel have in it all?

I received this book compliments of Summerside Press and Guideposts for my honest review. Even though the story takes awhile to develop you eventually understand why it's necessary when you see how detailed the process is by the climax of the book. There are many players involved in making this storyline happen and I think Jeff Nesbit does a wonderful job at building up his characters. It appears that a sequel is forthcoming as the book does leave the reader at a bit of a cliff hanger ending and things are not quite resolved. I would rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars and look forward to any future books that Jeff will breath life into. For those that love a bit of mystery and suspense with potential current world events then this one is perfect for you.

Bond Girl - Giveaway and Review

You know you've read an excellent book when you can wait to tell someone about it and all the best parts of the book. Only in this one, the entire book is filled with the best parts. Bond Girl by Erin Duffy is the story of Alex Garrett, who has dreamed of a career in the finance industry since she was eight, following in her father's footsteps. Only this is a predominantly male industry and not that many women find the success she is hoping for.

She finally attends college hoping that the business and finance classes will be enough to help her understand what it takes to get her foot in the door of Cromwell Pierce, one of the top leaders in Wall Street, also a fierce competitor of her father's company. When she finally is offered the position, she soon finds just how difficult it will be beginning her journey as a Junior, which is the grunt level in the bond trading sector. She has been told she will do whatever is asked of her without complaint and that's where the story gets interesting. I found this book to be a blend of the Devil Wears Prada only in a male dominated finance industry and for an extremely difficult boss named Ed Ciccone or "Chick" as he insists she refers to him.

It's just how far Alex is willing to go that makes the story that much fun. Seeing it as working in an office with 40 men and one other woman, she is forced to deal with all the inside jokes one would expect from having to fetch coffee and pizza whenever the team is hungry or in need of a caffeine boost or being the blunt of practical jokes when the days prove boring and slow. Yet in the end, it shows how much drive and perseverance Alex has to prove her worth at her job.

I received Bond Girl by Erin Duffy compliments of William Morrow, a division of Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review and LOVED it! It was definitely a book I could relate to, when I begin a career in the wireless industry as one of the first women technicians and how to go about proving my self worth in a male dominated field. So my hats off to girls like Alex who can put up with the best of them and not take it personally. A fun-filled 5 out of 5 stars!

The Face Thief

The perfect criminal is one who can read the body language and facial features of their victim and that is just the premise for the latest book from Eli Gottlieb, The Face Thief.

The book revolves around the lives of three people involving a series of circumstances with a common thread. The more you know about a person, the better it enables you to gain the upper hand. If you can define someone simply by how they carry themselves and what their face tells you that their words don't can be very beneficial if you know how to read them.

Margot is a promising up and coming journalist who wants to gain the advantage in the business world in learning to read faces and define the subtle movements our body language portrays. She hopes it may give her the advantage she will need to climb the corporate ladder in the competitive world of journalism where being a female may be the disadvantage. So when she signs up to take a course designed by the expert in reading body languages and faces, she gets more than she ever thought she would.

Lawrence Billings has made a name for himself as a best selling author and successful business man now leading seminars discussing The Physique of Finance: The Art of Face Reading and Body Language for Professional Advantage. He always had unique gift of seeing things others missed and now it was paying off in a big way at fifty three and still married to Glynis even after his indiscretions. Life was perfect until Margot showed up in his class. Things were about to change and not in the way he would have expected.

John Potash has finally struck gold. When Janell Styles of Greenleaf Financial calls and offers him the best investment opportunity of a lifetime, one he's been waiting for his whole life, he takes a chance after his initial investments have returned better than expected returns. Now just when his personal life has finally settled down after a recent divorce, he plans to invest in their future in a very big way. However life isn't always what we expect despite how we may think we have it all figured out.

I received The Face Thief by Eli Gottlieb compliments of William Morrow, a division of Harper Collins for my honest review. This book really does have quite a few twists and turns and until about half way through I didn't realize what was happening with the three different story lines in the book, however now looking back I could see how it all played out. As a reader, keeping that in mind, it will make the book much more enjoyable knowing that when you begin and throughout the book, you will find the pattern that shows how they all interconnect without realizing it. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars for that reason. It deals with preying upon peoples trust and weakness to make a fast buck no matter what the cost and having the best tools on hand can make it that much easier.

A Bitter Truth

Life is about to change for battlefield nurse, Betty Crawford on a dark and blustery night in London. When the police are searching for a deserter, Betty heads home to her flat alone. Yet on the stoop of her doorway is a woman, hiding and wearing a thin coat, trying to find temporary shelter from the storm. When Betty offers her a cup of tea and a respite from the weather for a few minutes, she sees that the woman's face bears a battered and bruise hand print along with endless tears down her face.

Fearing the worst but don't wanting to frighten the poor woman, she learns that she is running from her husband, Roger Ellis. Not prone to violence against his wife, Bess learns that the woman's name is Lydia and offers her a place to stay. Lydia fears the worst could happen the longer she stays away and asks Betty to accompany her home to Vixen Hill.

There Betty will meet the Ellis family of three generations of widows and meet the spirit of Julianna, who died a young girl and one whom the family can't seem to forget. Betty is talked into staying a few days to help care for Lydia and help her deal with issues involving her husband's jealousy. During her stay, the family is planning a memorial service to lay the headstone of one of the sons that was killed in the war. Only on the eve of the memorial service, one of the house guests George Hughes confides a deep family secret to Betty when neither of them can sleep. When the house awakens in the morning, George is soon discovered murdered and someone in the house is the prime suspect.

I received the novel A Bitter Truth by Charles Todd compliments of Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review. It feels like a historical version of the game, Clue, as Bess Crawford attempts to solve the mystery surrounding the Ellis family secret and the murder of George Hughes. Set in London during the middle of World War 1, the mystery continues to grow as more and more people turn up missing or murdered as well. I rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars and is perfect for you crime solving sleuth fans!

Glazier

Glazier is a term to define a type of power a person is endowed with that enables them to remember things better, have super human speed and strength and have to ability to influence peoples thoughts.

Captain Henry Tenison believed that he alone was the only one, until Marie was brought into his life. He would now become her protector and trainer. He would teach her how to trust Glazier whenever the situation would warrant it. It could be possible to control this ability so well that you could use it to your advantage and that is just what a man named Abram is planning on doing.

When Marie Kincaid awakens in an infirmary, she doesn't remember anything that happened before she arrived. Whenever she tries to think back it's as if a black thick wall blocks her from remembering anything of the life she had before. When Henry helps her through her recovery process and subsequent training in using her Glazier ability, they will become the world's most formidable supernatural spies.

In Henry, Marie is able to sense that there is a great purpose in her life and tries in vain to remember anything that would connect to world before him. Through Henry's protection, she begins to fall in love with him but he won't allow it, not until he knows that Marie's memory is restored and that there isn't someone else waiting to love her from her past.

In the newest novel by Bri Clark, Glazier, brings the reader into a new type of spy and one that when unleashed is beyond the control of any human being. Now Henry begins to plot a way for him and Marie to escape and find a way to live normal lives if that is possible before things get out of control.

I received this ebook compliments of Pump Up Your Book Tours for my honest review and LOVED this one! It's the perfect blend of genre's from young adult, supernatural, paranormal to spy-mystery, intrigue thriller all rolled into one sensational story. The characters of Henry and Marie are believable especially in light of their abilities and the people who would use and exploit them for their own purposes. You feel sorry for them because at some point they almost become like human lab rats inside their secure bunker that is geared to keep them safe. I would rate this one at a 5 out of 5 stars. The subject matter is well suited for the young adult audience who loves a little spicy action adventure out of the normal fiction genre.

The Fund

My Review:

Ever wonder what it would be like to be able to transfer millions of dollars into a secret account where you could use the money for your own personal gain? Imagine now those funds being backed the most notorious terrorist groups in the world! Kate Molares, a U.S. Defense Agent has the responsibility of being in charge investigating any possible threats within the South American Financial market. She has been ordered to discover if possible funds backed be terrorists from the Middle East could be routed from Offshore accounts through Southern and Central American Banking Institutions into the united States to be used against the US for terrorist gains. Kate soon discovers that she has uncovered something so important, it could shake not only her life, but the lives of everyone living in America!

Synopsis:
The Fund follows a U.S. Defense Intelligence operative Kate Molares who’s investigating a suspicious international money trail. Her instincts place her at the center of a plot involving a terrifying new kind of terrorism – financial terrorism – perpetuated by a suave, handsome Middle Eastern hedge fund mogul. His goal is to wreck the West by bringing the global economy to its knees.

Kate’s mission takes her from the defense intelligence command center on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. to the oil-fueled economy of Caracas, Venezuela. Kate finds herself in a race against time, to fit together the pieces of this global puzzle… or risk the catastrophic destruction of the world’s financial markets.

About the Author:
H.T. Narea, an international investment banker, has focused his career on global emerging markets. During his 20-plus years of experience, which includes his tenure as a principal at JPMorgan Chase in New York, Narea has advised governments, companies and banks in countries around the world on debt restructurings, infrastructure projects, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, debt trading and syndicated finance. He is also the author of various published financial articles. Narea is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where he also teaches international finance.

I received The Fund by H.T. Narea compliments of Planned TV Arts for my honest opinion. It was a little difficult to get through the first few chapters of this book to where I could feel the storyline coming together to make sense. Though I do not follow the Financial news and banking industry, anyone who does would probably like this book. I found this book to be a little difficult to get through and hard to follow the changes of the storyline. There was some graphically violent parts that were hard to get through as well. I would rate this book a 3 out of 5 stars for the story content.

Concrete Pearl

Ava “Spike” Harrison might be a beautiful, classically schooled woman, but the single, 38 year old construction business owner is also plenty ballsy. Her late father taught her long ago how to handle the rough boys in an industry that’s almost entirely filled with hard-boiled men on the make. But now, with “the business dad built” from the ground up failing due to an unusual series of job-site injuries and just plain bad luck, Spike has no choice but to take on one last project she believes can pull the fledgling firm from the depths of almost certain bankruptcy and family shame: The Renovation of Albany PS 20.

Problem is, Spike had no choice but to take the job on the cheap. To make matters worse, she’s not only hired an asbestos removal contractor who, unbeknownst to her, low-balled his price, but she’s advanced him $10Gs from her own dwindling cash account as a “good faith” incentive to beat the project deadline.

Now, when that same asbestos contractor suddenly goes missing and it’s discovered by OSHA officials that he’s cheated on the project exposing more than 300 students to deadly asbestos fibers for months, Spike decides to take matters into her own callused hands and go in search of him. What she discovers along the way however, is a path paved with deception, greed, murder, and eventually, her own ultimate demise.

Armed with a framing hammer as her equalizer instead of a gun, Spike Harrison is one hot, but tough as nails amateur woman sleuth. Cross her, and you just might find yourself buried up to your neck in regret. (excerpt for eBook).

My Review:

I received this eBook of Concrete Pearl by Vincent Zandri compliments of Pump Up Your Book Tours for my honest review and this one had me hooked from the first page. Being sensitive to my readers this book does contain some profanity and sexual references that one may find common to construction crews dialogue but it does not take away from the value of a well written story.

The character of A.J. Harrison, the daughter of the Harrison's Construction company was a believable one considering she's been doing this kind of work since she begged her father to give her a shot since she was sixteen. Now struggling to maintain a hold on the company on the verge of bankruptcy and multiple fines already from OSHA, if she can't locate her missing subcontractor, James Farrel, she will more than likely lose the business from the amount of pending lawsuits that are building over the cancer cases of the children affected by the asbestos since inhaling the fibers for the nine months she's been working on the school.

When a lawyer, Damien Spain, shows up suddenly and begins offering her help, hired by James' wife, that things begin to take a twisted turn. This novel will hold the reader from the very first paragraph and is so well written, you finish before you realize it which to me is a definite sign of great writing. I award this book a 4 out of 5 stars. For more information about this book, the author and where to pick up a copy of this book, please click on the links below:

The latest novel from Matthew Dunn, Spycatcher, has so many details and expertise of scenarios that you automatically begin to see yourself as the main character. This plot sends him and his crew on a hunt for Meggido, a mastermind behind many of Iran’s terrorist plots to bring down the west.

The Key To The Kingdom

Key To The Kingdom Trailer from Marc Percy on Vimeo.

Who hasn't heard of Walt Disney, Disneyland, The Magic Kingdom or anything related to Disney in general?

Some of us have grown up with Disney in some form or another for most of our lives and know what dreams can do for those of us willing to dare to live them.

Farren Rales is one of the chief Imagineers working for the Magic Kingdom and when he calls Grayson Hawkes, a pastor of Celebration Community Church and asks him to meet him at the Gamble House. The Gamble House is a piece of property that is now part of the National Historical Society and is the inspiration come to life of Snow White's cottage from Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

It's late at night for a secret meeting with Farren and Hawkes as they wander around the inside of the cottage learning about Disney's fascination for details within a story. He leaves Hawkes with a gift, an old key that he claims is the Key to the Kingdom. When he looks up to inquire more about what the key means, Farren has vanished into the dark of night.

As Hawkes leaves the cottage, he learns that he is not the only one in the park at night. Running for his car, he barely manages to escape with his life. When Farren fails to show up for work, his secretary grows worried and returns Hawkes calls since he was the last person to see him. Not knowing what to do or where Farren is, he gets worried and believes that the clues to what is happening lie within the Magic Kingdom and what exactly that key will unlock.

Now Hawkes finds himself in a Disney-like National Treasure scavenger hunt, unlocking riddles that lead him to more clues within the Animal Kingdom, The Disney Resort, and Epcot Center with a stuffed Pal Mickey that becomes activated with hidden sensors located throughout the park guiding him to the next clue.

What he will ultimately discover is the Disney Magic may be more real than we have been led to believe and perhaps there is a whole lot more reality mixed in then we know.

I received the mystery novel, The Key to the Kingdom by Jeff Dixon, compliments of Bring It On Communication for my honest review. Being a huge Disney fan since I was a child, my child-like wonder has never left and I was captivated by the way the author wove this mystery around Disney facts and trivia that most of us walk by in our day to day visits of the park and never give it a second thought. Do tunnels really exist below the park? Is Walt Disney really sealed in a cryogenic cylinder waiting for a cure for cancer? Is there really a Snow White Cottage in Port Orange, Florida and inspired Disney to create Disneyland?

Who knows until you read this book and decide for yourself is this really fiction or perhaps a Disney magic way of covering up the secrets of the park! I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars and now it has a place of permanence in my personal library because the kid in me, still believes in magic!

I received this book compliments of Pump Up Your Book Tours and Steve DeWinter for my honest review and was surprised at how quickly I got through the book. It's that good, you don't want to put it down. I received the edition via my Kindle and loved the suspense and action from the very first page. I would rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and it falls in line for those of you that love books by James Patterson.
