NKJV American Woman's Bible

"Alexis de Tocqueville wrote at the conclusion of Democracy in America, his landmark work of the nineteenth century:

"And now that I come near the end of this book in which I have recorded so many considerable achievements of the Americans, if anyone asks me what I think the chief cause of the extraordinary prosperity and growing power of this nation, I should answer that it is due to the superiority of their women."

America is the beneficiary of the great feats, the deep faith, and the powerful influences of women throughout her past up to the present. In the words of Penny Nance, President of Concerned Women for America, the American Women's Bible "points the way for the women of our time...By taking on the mantle of godly virtues, women can bring about the changes needs to keep this nation strong." (insert).

The American Woman's Bible is to see how women throughout the history of this great nation have lived out those biblical values, such as courage, faith, honor, mercy, sacrifice, forgiveness, obedience, resourcefulness and more. The purpose of this Bible is not just to tell these women's stories. More than that, its purpose is to show how living by those values taught to us in the Bible can make an individual great, a community great, and a nation great. Its emphasis is not only the great accomplishments by American women of the past; it also points the way for the women of our time. This has never been more needed than now.

"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies." ~ Proverbs 31:10

I received the NKJV American Woman's Bible by Dr. Richard G. Lee, Editor,  compliments of Thomas Nelson Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this Bible in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. I absolutely LOVE this Bible. First on all is it easy to use, but the encouragement you can find through the stories of the woman from American history you will find throughout the Bible who lived those biblical values that women strive to make a part of their own lives. There is a section about how a woman's journey to godliness can be achieved through their study of walking through the Bible and great reference points are provided so you can find the ones in particular you are looking for. There are quotes, articles, biographies and more added to make this truly a journey through the eyes of what makes up a godly woman without taking anything away from the Bible. Ones you will find are Louisa May Alcott, Dolley Madison, Flannery O'Connor, Rosa Parks, Dale Evans Rogers, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harriet Tubman, Martha Washington, Laura Ingalls Wilder and more. For me, this is such a great Study Bible because it is so easy to use and love the layout of the New King James Version which is what most pastors use. For me, an easy 5 out of 5 stars!

How Would Jesus Vote?

The elections are coming! We've gotten the phone calls, our mail boxes are being filled with all kinds of ads for the propositions and candidates, and on television, we have witnessed the debates coming from both sides of the spectrum for this presidential election. As a believer in Christ, we find it hard to sort through all the propaganda being streamed in from all kinds of sources. It seems no matter how much you research it, you can't get a straight answer on what you should vote for in order to line up with biblical standards.

So you find yourself wanting to fill in the blank or opt out of voting when no real candidate meets our criteria and perhaps that is the problem. In fact it makes you wonder, How Would Jesus Vote? Darrel L. Bock has written a great novel that digs into the meat of what makes our country what it is. How did our founding fathers so long ago deal with differences in both religious beliefs, race and a diversity that seems to be driving us apart more than united us together? He tackles all that and more in this wonderful book that gives us a different perspective using the Bible as a source of reference on how we look at such topics like racial conflict, economics, poverty, health care, immigration, gun control, foreign policy, war, education, sexuality, abortion and so much more.

Using the Bible to help us see things from Jesus' point of view really gives us something to consider when we look at what direction we want our country to move in and how to deal with difficult task of not only dealing with citizens, but also dealing with illegal immigration and the influx of refugees wanting to enter the country. I love how well thought out and researched this is and before reading it I was pretty resolved on several issues, however this one had me really rethink what I believe and more so, how I can debate with others and still respect their differences and love them as Christ would.

I received How Would Jesus Vote by Darrell L. Bock compliments of Howard Books, a division of Simon and Schuster Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and personal evaluation. I really wanted to read this novel to get a better understanding of how as a voter who believes in Jesus should vote when we find ourselves challenged to know what to do. This really helped and would be a great resource to anyone before this next election in November! I would rate this a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

Janet's Planet DVD - Review and Giveaway

Being a home school teacher/mom, I love finding great products that make learning not only educational, but fun! That's why I am so excited to share this DVD, Janet's Planet with all of you! Janet's Planet is a fun educational tool you can use to help your child become more knowledgeable in Science, History and Health. In the Microgravity DVD, Janet Ivy explores the world of gravity, mass and the impacts it has not only on the Earth but one other planets as well. I only wish I had gotten this sooner, when we were studying Gravity in our Science Lesson. This explains it so much better than all those chapters and dull, boring words on a page. I love the interaction between Janet and the kids in this DVD. The illustrations she uses are simply enough for anyone to understand and better yet, remember. We will be using this as a refresher prior to our school's state testing next week.

I love the explanation about the effects of gravity and what would happen if the Earth suddenly found itself without gravity and thus explains the gravity on the moon and other planets. In addition I love the visuals for the mass and weight on Earth and other planets. There are some funny comedy references to make it really fun!

The best part is that the learning doesn't end when the DVD is over, there is some incredible information you can find through Janet's Planet website, from links to videos, a fun jeopardy game on Science, Health and History, (I did O.K., though I may need a refresher course through Janet's DVD) and so much more for both parents and educators. There is even a link to the Janet's Planet Space Log ( a blog) with more incredible information and challenges. I am a huge supporter in anything that keeps kids engaged and learning while making it fun and Janet's Planet masters that concept.

On Janet's Planet website, I found that the blog needs to be updated since the last entry was June of 2012 but the information contained on the site is pretty amazing. That is the only downfall I see at this time. My 8th grader was challenged to play the Jeopardy game and at first was a bit frustrated because she felt it was too childish looking. However having her play the game, I literally watched her go from less than willing to super excited as she progressed further into the game. So that just tells me that this works and she completely enjoyed it. She learned quite a few things she didn't know especially in regards to some anatomy health questions, and was thrilled to understand some of the science explorers like Buzz Aldrin and Alan Shepard.

On Janet's Planet Facebook page, we learned of a 19-year old student, Boyan Slat who invented an Ocean Cleanup Array to remove up to 7,250,000 tons of plastic waste from the world's ocean. He even created his own Ocean Cleanup Foundation and estimates that it will take about 5 years to remove these plastic garbage patches from our oceans. There is literally so much great information all linked to help students learn more about Science, History, Health and Nutrition. I think this is a must see for anyone who is excited about learning in a fun way using technology to help! I know I have forwarded all these links to our parenting network and have gotten great responses. Here's hoping Janet's Planet goes global through the educational network.

I received Janet's Planet DVD compliments of FlyByPromotions and Janet's Planet for my honest review and received no monetary compensation for a favorable review. This DVD is geared for all ages and learning levels. The resources through the website, Facebook and Space Log are great enhancements to keep the learning alive and fun even after you finish with the DVD. I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product to parents, educators and students who are looking for a way to making learning fun and exciting!

America's Prophet - Giveaway and Review

I know most of you know the story of Moses and the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt into the land of milk and honey. But did you ever stop and think just how that story still relates to America?

Do you see the correlation in the Pilgrims fleeing their ruling King James of England in search of the New Land? Or how many of our past presidents have made reference to the story of Moses and his life, the instruction from God, the giving of the 10 Commandments, and thus failure to follow God.

Moses was commanded to follow God's instruction to the T, and every time he didn't he was punished. He never got to see the fulfillment of the Promised Land to the people he led for 40 years in the desert.

In the book, America's Prophet, How The Story of Moses Shaped America by Bruce Feiler, you are taken back to the story of Moses and see how many times this very man and his life is repeated through our own history in America. I can honestly tell you as someone who loves history and faith in God, this book spoke to my heart and soul. I absolutely loved seeing God's hand in the creation of this once blessed nation and how He continues to mold and shape us through the retelling of the story.

You'll learn about the history and creation of the liberty bell and learn how God was involved.
What the actual inscription means that is molded into the bell.

You'll learn how valuable the Bible was that Washington used, what scripture was open when he took his oath of office and what the connection was to September 11, 2001.

You'll learn what the original seal was supposed to be, and how we got to the eagle and one-eye pyramid, and so much more. I think I interrupted my husband so much with each new tidbit I learned and couldn't wait to share it.

This is a must read for those that love history, especially American History and how God really worked in this great nation even to the present day.

I received this book compliments of TLC Book Tours for my honest review and must say it's a permanent fixture in our library now for our kids to learn about as we study history. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. For more information on this book, the author and where to purchase a copy for yourself, click on the title of the book below:
