Embers of Love - Review

Philadelphia - June 1885

"I won't let you go through with this," Deborah Vandermark declared. She clasped her best friend's gloved hands. "Even something this drastic will not win your mother's respect, and it certainly won't soften her heart with love."

Elizabeth Decker - known as Lizzie to her dearest friends - shook her head. "You don't understand. If I don't go through with this, I'll have to return home with her."

"Nonsense," Deborah replied. "You can come home with me. My brother is waiting at the train station - or will be in another half hour. There's no reason to remain here. You're of age, and my guess is that even your father will approve."

"Simply one more thing my mother would blame him for."

Deborah squeezed her friend's hand. "Lizzie, your parents are divorced and your father is capable of dealing with this. They live in different towns. They needn't ever speak to each other again - and even if they do, it won't change how you feel about Stuart. Don't let your concerns about everyone else be the reason you go into a loveless marriage." (excerpt from page 9-10)

Yet does Lizzie have what it takes to walk away from making what Deborah thinks is a mistake? What will her father and mother say? What will Stuart say?

To find out, you'll have to read the book, Embers of Love by Tracie Peterson, her latest novel in the newest series of Striking A Match. I received this book, compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and must say, I love the strong women characters that come off on the pages of this novel. I would rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars.

Elizabeth Vandermark who has spent the last few years in college studying to come back to her small town in Texas to aid in her families business. She wants to show the women in her town that education has it's benefits even if the men in the town would rather she learned more housewife duties like cooking and tending to raising a family.

Lizzie is faced with making such difficult decisions at such a young age and despite trying to do everything her mother wants for her, she will never make her happy. Stuart is a fine, rich man and wants a well educated and beautiful wife to showcase on his arm. What will she do?

ABOUT THE BOOK

The logging industry in eastern Texas is booming, and Deborah Vandermark plans to assist her family's business now that she's completed college. Unexpectedly, her best friend, Lizzie Decker, accompanies her back home--fleeing a wedding and groom she has no interest in.

Deborah, the determined matchmaker, puts her sights on uniting her brother and dear friend in a true love match. Deborah soon meets Dr. Christopher Clayton, a much-needed addition to the town. As their lives intersect, Deborah realizes that she has a much greater interest in medicine and science than the bookkeeping she was trained in.

But when typhoid begins to spread and Lizzie's jilted fiance returns, Deborah wonders if true love can overcome such obstacles...for those dearest to her, and for herself.
