An Unlikely Suitor

Everyone dreams of a fresh start when they think of coming to America. At least that is what the Scarpelli family dreamed when they arrived here from Italy in 1895. Finding their way to a run down tenement in New York City, it will require the entire family to work to make ends meet. Lucy, her sister Sophia and her mother will find jobs in a garment, sweat shop while her father finds work among the dock workers. Her uncle and aunt soon join them but they are looking for an easier life and soon move out to head west to Oklahoma after Lucy's father dies in an accident at work.

Not knowing what to do except find a way to help her family, Lucy strikes out into the city on her own one Sunday morning and manages by good fortune to find not only a better and cheaper place to live but also jobs working for Madame Moreau's Fashion Emporium, creating beautiful and unique wardrobes for the wealthy residents.

When Lucy encounters Rowena Langdon who comes to the shop prior to a long trip away which will require thirty new outfits, she finds herself with an unusual request. Rowena has a disability in one leg that is obvious when she stands, making her feel self conscience. Lucy dreams of a solution and one late night, makes some unauthorized alterations to one of her gowns prior to a dress fitting. What she does that day will put the wheels in motion for all three girls that will change their lives in the most unexpected and often romantic ways.

In the novel, An Unlikely Suitor by Nancy Moser, the reader will be immersed into the lives of Sophia, Lucy and Rowena as each of them finds not only friendship but the real meaning behind sacrificial love. I received this book compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and have to give it a 5 out of 5 stars. This was such an easy book to become immersed in between the relationships of Lucy and Rowena, both from completely different backgrounds who find their way to look past all of what society deems appropriate and truly experience all life has to offer.

Here's even more great information about the book, the author and even a sneak peek into the first chapter.
