When Calls the Heart - Heart of a Hero
Looking for a great family series that is suitable for all ages? Trust me, check out When Calls the Heart! It began with the novel from Janette Oke and spawned into a great series that you can find on the Hallmark Channel. Now going on it's 4th season soon, this is produced by Michael Landon Jr, whose family has produced some amazing series geared for families.
When Calls the Heart - Heart of a Hero, is the 3 DVD release in Season 3 that showcases the life of a frontier town called Hope Valley, a mining town out west that takes us into the heart of all the town's residents, and has roots in relationships, self-empowerment, love and enduring power of love. New arrivals bring excitement, love and danger to Hope Valley. Pastor Frank has been reinstated following the revelation of his criminal past, but the arrival of his old cohorts, the Garrison Gang, are making life - and his relationship with Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) - very tense. Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) has his own debt to settle with Jake Garrison, and Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), intends to stay Bill's hand from killing the man. Meanwhile, Lee Coulter's foot injury brings a pretty nurse, Faith Carter from Hamilton...and soon after, her possessive fiancè. And Jack rises to the defense of new settlers on Gowen's land when Gowen abruptly raises their rent.
Just when you thought love was blooming in all the right places for our favorite characters Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) and Abigail Stanton who have had their faith share of problems, now it seems they will have to deal with issues from the past in both of their situations. Faith was the nurse who helped Jack's brother back in Elizabeth's hometown of Hamilton and caused their relationship to be tested and now she is in Hope Valley. But will she stay? Will Pastor Frank even be able to face the town again as their man of faith, when he held back his own secret past? What will that do for the relationship that was just beginning to kindle with Abigail? It seems our heroes heart will be put to the ultimate test.
I received When Calls the Heart: Heart of a Hero by Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside from a free copy of this DVD in exchange for my unbiased and personal opinion. This has truly been my favorite series from the Hallmark Channel, in part because I grew up with Little House on the Prairie and now When Calls the Heart is this generations equivalent of the same. It has great moral lessons and the characters convey the consequences that come from wrong decisions, but forgiveness and unconditional love always win out in the end. Dove Family Approved and running time is 84 minutes approximately and worth all 5 out of 5 stars.

When Calls the Heart: Troubled Hearts
Looking for a television series that is great for all ages? Check out Hallmark Channel's When Calls the Heart Series, based on the novel from author Janette Oke and executive producer Michael Landon Jr. Now in its third season, the DVD When Calls the Hearts: Troubled Hearts is released to fans of the series known simply as "Hearties!"
The entire series is based on a fictional town in the west known simply as Hope Valley, formerly Coal Valley. Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) leaves her well to do family in Hamilton to head west in search not only for adventure but answering the ad for a school teacher. She falls in love with Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), a Canadian Mounty, and realizes that she has finally found a true home. In this episode, Elizabeth finally has her own home, at last after living with Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin), owner of the cafe. She is excited as she prepares to write her novel of life on the frontier in her new home but first it will need more than fixing up and Jack is just the person to lend a hand. He had hoped that one day he would build her a home, but for now those plans are on hold.
Rosemary begins to see signs that her love interest Lee Colter, the owner of the Sawmill might be having financial difficulties and she lends a hand helping him to economize and save money at every opportunity without first confronting him. She believes its not her place to ask if he needs money. Meanwhile just as things are beginning to look up for Abigail as she expresses an interest in Pastor Frank, an unexpected visitor Jesse shows up to make things difficult based on Frank's past he is keeping hidden. Things are about to get complicated once again for the residents of Hope Valley!
I received When Calls the Heart: Troubled Hearts compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the DVD in exchange for my heartfelt and honest opinions. There honestly has not been much I don't like about this series, except that you have to wait for each new season! The DVD's however help to pass the time. This one includes exclusive behind the scenes interviews and runs about 84 minutes in length for the feature. This is truly one series that every single member can enjoy and fans of Little House on the Prairie will definitely want to make sure you pick this entire series up from the beginning. It has humor, romance, adventure and a few tears along the way as you cheer on your favorite character or couple! For me, another 5 out of 5 stars!

When Calls the Heart: Heart and Home - DVD Review
Those of us that adore Hallmark Channel's series, When Calls the Heart, are referred to as "Hearties" and now with the introduction of Heart and Home, the latest DVD from the series has now caused a bit of a stirring up among our favorite characters.
Just when we believe things are settled, there comes a bit of chaos to the mix. Charles is still there as Elizabeth Thatcher's (Erin Krakow) childhood friend that seems to be encouraged by those in Elizabeth's family, all but her sister Julie, that Charles would make a more suitable match than Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). As they both arrive back to Hamilton with news that Julie and Jack's brother, Tom have been involved in a car accident, the car belonging to Elizabeth's dad. He is all set to prosecute to the full extent of the law and have Tom tossed in jail. He knows that Julie has been a bit headstrong in her opinion that she and Tom are in love and had hoped to get married. But there is one thing Mr. Thatcher wants to control is who his daughters marry and he isn't too thrilled to have either of the Thornton men with interests in his daughters.
As Jack and Elizabeth arrive, the tables get turned a bit for viewers. Jack spends time visiting with his brother Tom in the hospital and manages to convince Elizabeth's father to drop the charges against his brother especially when evidence Jack uncovers tells a much different story about who was really driving the car that day. However he does find a friend in Tom's nurse Faith as the two discover they have quite a bit in common. As a way of thanking her for all her help, Jack meet Faith over dinner and is discovered by Elizabeth's sister and her husband.
Not one to keep secrets she is quick to let Elizabeth know that she saw Jack having dinner with another room, which once again throws a monkey wrench into our favorite couple. Julie and Tom decide not to let their families tell them what to do and make plans to elope. Rosemary is head over heels with the excitement that she has managed to convince Lee Colter to build her a theater. Of course what man wouldn't for a woman he loves. But he still has issues with Mr. Gowen who has vowed to put an end to the impending railroad contract that would promise to be quite the thing the town needs to bring more industry to the town of Hope Valley and make Lee a very wealthy man. But with Elizabeth now heading back to Hamilton to deal with the issues with her family, she leaves the school to a back up teacher who has a less than pleasing disposition with her students and Rosemarie offers to lend a hand of course.
I received When Calls the Heart: Heart and Home from Word Films and Edify Media Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review, aside from a free copy of the DVD for review, the opinions contained here are strictly my own personal ones. I have loved this series from it's inception and from Janette Oke's novel which inspired the show. It is one of the true shows that is still family appropriate for all ages much like Little House on The Prairie did for my childhood. Michael Landon Jr is the executive producer and truly the show gets better with each new episode. Much of what I love about this series, it's the fashions and the simplicity of life in Hope Valley compared to that of Hamilton. For me, another 5 out of 5 stars and I can't wait for more. This DVD runs approximately 84 minutes and includes some exclusive behind the scenes interview.

When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul
Looking for a great family friendly television series, that still models the wholesome family values from shows like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons? Then look no further than When Calls the Heart, based on the novel from Janette Oke and from producer Michael Landon Jr. for the Hallmark Channel. If you haven't watched it, trust me, go back to the very beginning and get acquainted with Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), who ventured west in the dreams of becoming a teacher despite her wealthy upbringing. She brings a love of learning to the children of Coal Valley, a mining town who recently suffered a massive mine explosion that claimed the lives of the men of the town, living the survivors to pick up the pieces.
In the DVD, Heart and Soul from the series, we find the long awaited trial into the suspected tampering of the mine by owner Henry Gowen, underway. Most of the women hope that the evidence against Mr. Gowen will be brought to light and absolve the mystery behind what caused the explosion that cost these men their lives. While Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) works with Bill Avery (Jack Wagner), the investigator on the case to prove her husbands innocence to the town, Elizabeth Thatcher is still in Hamilton caring for her ailing mother. Even though Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), went with her, he must now return to his duties and leave Elizabeth behind, trusting that their love will survive despite the distance. Her father, however has other plans in mind when he continues to invite her childhood friend, Charles Kensington to fill in her available time in hopes she might forget all about Jack.
Back in Hope Valley, Rosemary always looking for that next big break in her budding career as an actress finds herself with a prospect of returning to San Francisco to star in an upcoming play. The two producers arrive with just the right lure for her to give up any hopes of remaining in Coal Valley, now Hope Valley. Only as usual some things are simply too goo to be true, and she finds herself being kidnapped with only our reputable hero, Jack Thornton to her rescue. When the weather turns on both of them, it forces them to take shelter in an abandoned mine overnight, which leads to ongoing rumors of what really happened among those in town. Is this the end of Elizabeth and Jack?
I received When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul compliments of Word Films, and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. Aside from the complimentary copy of the DVD, I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. Just like in any of our favorite romances, there always has to be conflict tossed in for good measure and in this case, with distance now separating Elizabeth and Jack, we find Rosemary and Charles are the antagonists without truly intending to do so. It will be something that either strengthens their relationship or will be a wedge that will drive them apart but I'll let that one remain a mystery until you pick this one up to enjoy. This is a Dove Family Approved DVD and one I know, you will treasure as much as my family and I do. We can't wait for more in this series and well worth all 5 out of 5 stars.

Also stars Lori Loughlin as Abigail Stanton, a widow and mother whose husband, along with a dozen other miners, was killed in an explosion at the local mine. When Calls the Heart- “Lost and Found” is a feature length film from the first two episodes of the When Calls the Heart television series. When Calls the Heart television series debuted on the Hallmark Channel to more than 3 million viewers, making it the No. 2 for the night on all of cable for the primary telecast at 9 p.m and No. 3 overall in households.Distributed by Word Entertainment, The DVD will be available to purchase in Christian Retail February 25th, 2014.
Synopsis“When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal mining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.
My Review:
I've been completely addicted to this series since I watched the original movie When Calls The Heart. Then I was excited to learn that the Hallmark Channel had decided to pick this one up as a series and continue the story from best selling author Janette Oke. In this DVD, When Calls The Heart: Lost and Found, we find that Elizabeth Thatcher has left her wealthy and prominent life to journey west to become a teacher in Coal Valley. She believes despite all her father's misgivings she can do what they believe she can't. Armed with nothing more than her clothes and some books, she is soon the victim of a stage coach robbery that leaves her with little more than the clothes on her back. She arrives at the request of the women of Coal Valley that have suffered the loss of their husbands and older children in a mining explosion. Their only hope is that Elizabeth can educate their children so that they don't have to become miners when they grow up.
But Elizabeth isn't at all prepared for what she is hoping for and thus no matter how hard she struggles to fit in, she is more of a challenge than she thinks. From learning to deal with issues that the children are facing to establishing the school in a saloon during the day, there are numerous laughs to be found along the way. Elizabeth's biggest ally is Abigail Stanton who has lost both her husband and son in the mining explosion. Yet both women persevere despite all the odds against them. Abigail dispenses motherly wisdom to Elizabeth when she feels overcome by the challenges facing her on the frontier and the two become friends.
Jack Thornton arrives as someone Elizabeth's father has hired to watch over his daughter while she insists on taking up the teaching in Coal Valley. Soon the sparks fly between the two even though they fight the attraction brewing between them. Yet after some time, Elizabeth soon discovers that Jack is more than just a friend and the harder they try to fight their romantic feelings the more they each are drawn closer together.
I received When Calls the Heart: Lost and Found compliments of Word Films, The Hallmark Channel and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for my honest review and the opinions expressed are strictly my own unless otherwise noted. It's so wonderful to know that in a world where choices in television and movie entertainment is becoming challenging for families that a series like When Calls the Heart comes along. Completely suitable for all ages in your family it reminds me of Little House on the Prairie from my own childhood. This series is directed by Michael Landon Jr and produced and written by Brian Bird and will be one that I am sure you will LOVE. My entire family LOVES this series from my youngest daughter at 15 to my husband. This DVD will be the start of an incredible journey for you and your family and one I can easily give a 5 out of 5 stars too! This is the first DVD in the series!

Traces of Mercy
For a woman known only as Mercy, a name bestowed upon her by a group of Nuns where she was living has the difficulty of two lives, one known and one becoming known. Mercy was found by a group of men, dressed like a man and with her chest bound at the buried under a wagon that had gone over a cliff. Now that she is in the process of recovering from her physical injuries, she can't remember who she is or what she was doing. She can't even remember anything as simple as her name. Now armed with learning things day by day as she retains the memories of only her present day, she struggles with understanding just who she was and what she was doing when she was found.
The only clue to her past lies with the clothes she was found it and the medallion she was wearing around her neck. A medallion that is meant to remind the wearer to pray for safety, Our Lady of Mercy. Now if she can only remember her past, she might have some ideas of what her future holds. Until that time, the doctor has arranged for a group of nuns at the Little Sisters of Hope to care for her and also a journal for her to write down her thoughts. It might be something in her writing that might trigger the memory that remains the only area that she hasn't been able to heal from.
When a chance encounter while out riding a horse to a nearby park in the heat of the day, she spots a peaceful looking pond. Thinking that a nice cool swim might just hit the spot while she waits for her horse to drink, she takes a plunge literally into a life altering course of action. Just as soon as she is stripped down to her undergarments, a carriage arrives with Rand Prescott and his date Cora on a picnic. Thinking that Mercy is a man, Rand asks Cora to turn her back and as Mercy rises from the lake it is apparent that he has mistaken her gender. More than embarrassed, Rand tries to apologize for his rude behavior but Cora isn't about to let it go. It will be just that fateful encounter alone that will bind Mercy and Rand in an unexpected way.
I received Traces of Mercy by Michael Landon Jr and Cindy Kelly compliments of David C Cook Publishers and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This one for me was hard to immerse myself in, despite knowing that the author was indeed the son of actor Michael Landon. The beginning was hard to draw the reader in and I found myself wandering more than I wanted to with when the story was about to get interesting. I like the premise overall and without going into too many details as that would give away the ending, I will say I did not like how it ended. I was hoping for so much more and was simply left wanting more. Not in a great way as to make me pick up the next novel in this book, but disappointed is a more appropriate term. For those that love novels surrounding the American Civil War with a romantic twist, then this might be one you'd like. For me, I'd rate this one a 4 out of 5 stars and it simply wasn't one I could really get into the storyline without losing interest.
