When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Faith

Do you remember Little House on the Prairie growing up? If you are like me, you have a fondness for great family values that series instilled in us growing up. Thanks to Janette Oke, there is such a series available today that is just as great, considering Michael Landon Jr is the director, so the apple didn't fall far from the tree and once again When Calls the Heart is a series, the entire family can watch and enjoy.

Now in its fourth season, When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Faith was originally broadcast as The Heart of Christmas and gave viewers a look back into the lives of some of our favorite characters in Hope Valley again. Hearties take note, Canadian Mounty Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) and School Teacher, Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) are feeling romance once again as our favorite honey moon couple Lee Colter and Rosemary have returned back to town and bringing with it all the romance one can hope for. Elizabeth is busy with plans for the Christmas pageant with her students and instead of having them audition for the roles, she wants them to encourage the spirit of giving towards one another with the winner being the one who was the most kind in each of the parts for the Nativity Story. When she receives word however that the supply train is delayed it seems as if the Christmas spirit is lost without costumes for the play, food for the feast, or presents for the kids.

But that is the true beauty about community spirit of Hope Valley, thus appropriately named, when the town rallies behind the cause and everyone gets into the spirit including a traveling peddler by the name of Sam, who seems to have just what everyone needs who comes to him. Is he Santa in disguise or is he a thief that is merely taking advantage of the good folks of Hope Valley. It will take a lot of cooperation from the town of Hope Valley to show us all what Christmas is truly about.

I received When Calls the Heart: The Heart of Faith compliments of Edify Films and The Hallmark Channel. In accordance with the new FTC Guidelines for blogging and endorsements, you should assume that every book reviewed here at Reviews From The Heart was provided to the reviewer by the publisher, media group or the author for free and were received, unless specified otherwise. The best part about the special DVD is that it also includes some great bonus features including a collector's sepia photograph of Jack Thornton in uniform, as well as a Bible Study Guide in the DVD. The guide itself is more than 30 pages long (including notes) that goes with more than 20 minutes of clips that are also on the DVD. Now that is what the heart of faith is truly all about. This would be a great visual resource to use in teaching a Bible Study on the meaning of faith and what it means as well as how we can share it. It is a full color resource available to download via the DVD! I easily give this a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

When Calls The Heart - Hearts in Question

I don't think there is any test more fearful than meeting the parents of your intended and that is precisely what Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) is in for when Jack Thornton's (Daniel Lissing) mother, Charlotte (Brooke Shields) arrives in Hope Valley unexpectedly. Those of us that have been with the series since it's inception, know that Elizabeth Thatcher is a bit 'challenged' when it comes to her domestic skills over her teaching skills. It seems that no matter how hard Elizabeth tries, she can never measure up to Charlotte's standards for what her son needs in a future wife.

But it seems love is in the air and wedding bells are beginning as well for Rosemary and Lee. In fact she has a job for just about everyone in town and she ensures she will oversee every last detail wanting her upcoming nuptials to be the last thing that everyone in town will remember. She is about to drive everyone crazy instead from her details to the menu, the bridesmaids gowns and even the elaborate decorations she wants built in time for the wedding. Will Lee simply wonder if it is all too much for any one man to handle?

But things in Hope Valley never stay routine or boring for long. Mr Gowen once again can't seem to just be a nice guy and it seems like he's been embezzling money from the town without anyone questioning his recent acquisitions. He tries to convince Nora to simply run away with him when it seems like he is about to be investigated by Jack and Bill for his unethical business practices as town mayor. When a sudden storm threatens not only some local settlers just outside of town, it will take an entire town willing to work together to save not only their lives but those who have come to help in the process.

I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the DVD in exchange for my personal and unbiased opinion. When Calls the Heart - Forever In My Heart

If you have not watched When Calls the Heart, especially if you were a fan of Little House on the Prairie growing up, you will want to tune it. Thanks to Janette Oke's novel, the Hallmark Channel and Michael Landon Jr teamed up to further the adventures of Elizabeth Thatcher, (Erin Krakow), a woman from a prominent family in Hamilton, and decides to try becoming a school teacher in Hope Valley, out west. Only problem is that life on the frontier isn't at all like Elizabeth might imagine but she is bound and determined to give it ago especially when there are so many children who are in need of a teacher.

Now in its third season, When Calls the Heart, Forever in My Heart has been released on DVD by Word Films and is the 4th DVD in Season 3. The development of some of our favorite characters are about to take another turn. Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) is working with some new settlers who have set up a temporary camp outside of town for men who are working back in the mines. Unfortunately one couple is dealing with the affects of long hours and being new parents and the young husband vows to do what is best for them by leaving. It will take some intervention and heart to heart talks on both ends with Jack to help them realize what is best for their new family.

Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) has been caring for Cody and Becky Connor's who have lost their parents and has taken on the role of a surrogate mother. Now it seems that a long lost wealthy aunt, Carolyn Conner's is about to uproot the family knowing that she is what is best for them above all the love Abigail has provided without taking their feelings into consideration. Once again, Abigail is about to lose everything she has invested her love in, or will she? Meanwhile Lee's feelings are about to be put to the ultimate test when Rosemary gets the chance of a lifetime, to become the lead actress in a producers movie. The only catch is that she will have to leave Hope Valley to do so. Will she stay for love or leave for fame? Only time will tell.

I received When Calls the Heart - Forever in My Heart compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a copy of this DVD in exchange for my unbiased and personal opinion. I am so thrilled that this has made it to DVD so I can share this with my grandchildren and family whenever they come for a visit. It is so wonderful to find great shows that still teach moral and family values of hard work, community and love in one amazing show. This is Dove Family Approved for all ages, and the DVD runs approximately 84 minutes. There is also some bonus material included as an added bonus.

When Calls The Heart: It Begins With Heart

Looking for something that the entire family can watch that has a great lesson, keeps to moral integrity and is a fun way to spend the evening as a family? Then look no further than When Calls the Heart, a series based on the novel by Janette Oke and produced by Michael Landon Jr. for the Hallmark Channel. Now in its third season, this series follows the life of Elizabeth Thatcher, a school teacher for Hope Valley that leaves her life in Hamilton to help teach the children of a mining town that there is hope for a better life out west.

In the DVD, When Calls the Heart: It Begins With Heart, this opens Season 3 with some changes for the towns residents of Hope Valley as they are beginning plans for the New Year's Eve celebration. For cafe owner Abigail Stanton(Lori Loughlin, Full House), she plans on investigating who is stealing the food from her kitchen and winds up with two orphan children in need of a family. Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) vows to prove herself worthy of earning the trust of Rip, a dog owned by Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), who comes between her and Jack as he is jealous of their romantic relationship. Sometimes the best way to a dog's heart is through his stomach, but unfortunately Elizabeth is not the best cook in Hope Valley.

Rosemary is bound and determined to use her literary skills to win a contest about real life on the frontier with the San Francisco Herald and it seems she has managed to fabricate things a bit which will pose as Lee Colter's wife when they come to see things in person. Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) is still trying to convince Jack that he is innocent in the counterfeiting ring and two visitors arrive in town to cause problems for both Jack and Pastor Frank just as he is beginning to start building a relationship with the town as pastor and win the heart of Abigail.

I received When Calls the Heart: It Begins with Heart compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of the DVD in exchange for my honest and personal opinion. I only wish there were more shows like this on television especially for the entire family to enjoy. This is truly a great series that every single member will enjoy and for fans of the television show Little House on the Prairie, this one will make you feel right at home. It will make you laugh, cry and cheer for your favorite Hope Valley residents and well worth 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion. This is Dove Family approved for all ages!

When Calls the Heart: Trials of the Heart DVD Review

If you are looking for some great quality family movies, then you might want to check out When Calls the Heart, a heartwarming series that is reminiscent of Little House on the Prairie but now for this generation. Michael Landon Jr. is the executive producer for the series that has been gaining popularity on the Hallmark Channel and now is beginning it's second season! I have absolutely fall in love with every aspect of this series, because in light of the programming you find on television these days, there isn't much there in the way of good moral values and family friendly shows the entire family can watch. This series is based on the novel When Calls the Heart by Janette Oke!

As Season Two begins we capture the season premiere with Trials of the Heart in this DVD episode. A lot has changed from season one, especially with all our major and well-loved characters. Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) has been a schoolteacher for Coal Valley and has begun a new start out west despite coming from a family of affluence. When her mother falls ill, she feels she must return home now that school is out for the summer so she can spare the time. She is escorted back home by her love interest Canadian Mounty Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who ensures her safe passage back home to the town of Hamilton. Once there, Elizabeth's father has hopes that she will fall in love and marry her childhood friend Charles Kensington, but he has to dissuade Jack that Elizabeth hopes for a better life are here in Hamilton and with Charles who can offer her the life her parents have always wanted.

Jack can't stay and immediately makes plans to head back to Coal Valley and leaves Elizabeth wondering what has happened between them. He only gives her the assurance that he will be waiting for her if she decides to return to Coal Valley. Meanwhile the sizzling anticipated romance between Abigail Stanton (Lori Laughlin), a widow and cafe owner in Coal Valley and investigator for the Canadian Mounties, Bill Avery (Jack Wagner). But now just as Bill returns on another case, a woman shows up claiming to be Bill's wife and she advises Abigail to look no further for any relationship with Bill. Oh what an interesting beginning for this series as love for our favorite women hang in the balance.

I received When Calls the Heart: Trials of the Heart compliments of the Word Entertainment and Edify Media for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and received a complimentary copy of the DVD to review. The opinions contained here are my own. I love this series and can't wait to see how it will all play out. Once again we have to have conflict for our characters otherwise where would the series go from there. The one thing I don't care for in the season opener is the liberties that are taken with the clothing and hairstyles some of the women are wearing. I know they might be going for a more casual approach but during the time period depicted in this series, women still wore their hair up and were not seen with it down except when they were at home in the company of their husbands or family. It seems to have lost that originality in keeping with the consistency it had in the first series and I hope they realize it before the series ends. Well worth all 5 out of 5 stars in keeping with a family friendly series the entire family can watch together. This DVD even includes some bonus features like exclusive behind the scenes interviews!

When Calls the Heart: Rules of Engagement

Webster's dictionary defines the meaning of the word engage: as a verb, to mean occupying the attention or interests of a person or persons; to secure for aid, employment, use, hire, etc.; to attract and hold fast; to bind as by pledge, contract, oath or promise; to betroth; and to bring (troops) into conflict; enter into conflict with.

In the DVD When Calls the Heart: Rules of Engagement from the Hallmark Channel and Word Films, all of these definitions apply to the characters we find in Coal Valley as Season 1 comes to a close with the final two episodes of the show. Does true happiness exist for anyone in Coal Valley? That is the question, Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) pens in her journal of this DVD. As the town's school teacher of Coal Valley, we find her wondering what the outcome will be for the relationship between her and constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). Jack is crowned the town's hero for the apprehension of the Toliver gang. Just as Jack returns from Cape Fulton, an unexpected surprises awaits him from the stage. A woman claiming to be Jack's fiancè, Rose Mary LeVeaux, a theater actress from New York. After 2 years of being away from Jack, she realizes she can't live without him and comes looking for him. But love is persistent in her eyes and no matter what Jack tells her, she believes until he conveys his feelings for Elizabeth, hope still awaits in the wings for her.

Inspector Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) arrives from Capital City to investigate the Pacific Northwest Mining accident that claimed the lives of 46 miners six months ago. He is hoping to build a case against the mining company for neglect thanks to the details Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) has provide to Jack. But Mr. Gowen, owner of the mine reminds Abigail that unless she drops the investigation and claims against the mine she might not like what his lawyers will be forced to reveal, one that just might point the fingers at her instead of at the mining company. But Abigail and Mr. Avery will not take to threats from Mr. Gowen or his employees.

Tensions mount as the circuit judge Jedidiah Black (James Brolin) arrives to oversee the case that could spell disaster either way you look at it for the town of Coal Valley. If the mine is responsible, it would mean the mine would close and the men would be out of work and unable to support their families. If Abigail is found responsible, it might mean the end to her cafe in Coal Valley and in the eyes of her friends whose husbands deaths would be on her hands. Will Jack Thornton find a way to reveal his feelings to Elizabeth just as she receives a lucrative offer as the first woman teacher in Briarcliff Teaching Academy back on the East Coast, a true dream job for her? Viewers will just have to wait until Season 2 begins, but until then we can relive all the greatest moments in this DVD series!

I received When Calls the Heart: Rules of Engagement compliments of Word Films, Hallmark Channel and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free DVD for my honest review and the opinions expressed here are my own. This DVD is the 6th and final one in Season 1 and includes the TV Series episodes number 11: Rules of Engagement and number twelve: Final Adieu on this one. This is such an exceptional series that families of all ages will come to love as much as The Little House on The Prairie. Micheal Landon Jr. brought author Janette Oke's novels to life and this one for me easily gets a full 5 out of 5 star rating!!!

Finding Mercy

Mercy is still trying to figure out just who she is. After finding herself injured and suffering from amnesia, she learns from Captain Elijah Hale, that she served in the Civil War as a Confederate sharpshooter for the South. Knowing nothing more than what Captain Hale conveys to her, she struggles with coming to terms in finding out who she is. She clings to a mercy medallion she was wearing when she woke up, and now goes by the name Mercy. Captain Hale is aware of who Mercy was during the war, because the medallion she was wearing used to belong to him. As Mercy stood trial for the attempted murder of the congressman she was engaged to. After Captain Hale managed to convince the courts that Mercy was innocent of the charges, there were still those that believed she should have hanged.

Now why she pieces together clues from her past on where she might have been raised, she attempts to elude a group of bounty hunters who will stop at nothing to ensure they are paid to bring her back and see her hanged even though she is considered an innocent woman now. Traveling with Captain Hale and Issac, a young slave for a time, she manages to lose them in an effort so find her memories without involving the two people who mean the world to her. However, Mercy's troubles are far from over when she realizes that no one person is an island, and everyone needs help from those you can trust. Out of food and exhausted, Mercy stumbles into a slave camp and begs for something to eat. Since they are just as poor as she is, she consumes the leftover fish a boat tosses nearby. But that soon turns to food poisoning and the only help she can find is Fort Danielson, who is supposed to be manned by the Confederate army, but she is more than surprised to find the Union soldiers have now taken over the fort and its been quite a while since any of them have seen a woman, especially one in the condition she is in.

I received Finding Mercy by Michael Landon Jr and Cindy Kelley compliments of David C. Cook Publishers and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. This is the sequel to Traces of Mercy and picks up precisely where the first novel left off. Fans of the American Civil War will appreciate the details in this historical novel from the hatred of the Civil War supporters, to the issue dealing with plantation slaves and their respective owners just trying to recover from the war, even though Abraham Lincoln had declared them emancipated and now free. Recovery was difficult for them all and soon Mercy discovers her long lost past isn't what she remembers at all. Will the picture of one man provide the clues she has been searching for or will it merely be another dead end? You'll have to read this one to find out. I rate this one a 4 out of 5 stars and is the second novel in the Mercy Medallion Series. There is a great discussion guide for book groups at the end as well as an author note details the role women played in the Civil War.

When Calls the Heart - Change of Heart

As the series comes to it's close for the first season for When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel, we find our favorite characters on the verge of making some tough choices. In the DVD release of Change of Heart, which includes episode 9 and 10 from the series, we find Elizabeth Thatcher and Jack Thornton finally being able to do what we, the viewers, have been hoping for all along, their first official date and the acknowledgment of those feelings we see just below the surface each time these two find themselves in close proximity of one another. Jack works with Abigail to make preparations to impress Elizabeth and show her just how fond he is of her and to let her know how serious he is about their courtship since their first date took place in the saloon. Jack has definitely stepped up his game and impressed Elizabeth.

But just as Jack believes his personal life is finally moving forward, he receives notice that his request for transfer that he put in when he first arrived in Coal Valley has been approved. Now he is unsure what to do. If he refuses the transfer, it may end his career as constable for the mounties, but if he takes the position, he is unsure how it will impact the courtship he has with Elizabeth and if she will even want to wait for him.

Elizabeth's sister Julie arrives on the stage as a surprise to Elizabeth in hopes of finding out what living out west is truly like. She wasn't planning on finding a wounded man, Nathaniel, in a cabin while out riding, in need of medical attention and secrecy to his condition. He convinces her that he's been trying to get away from being part of the Tolliver Gang that his brother has been forcing him to be a part of. He simply wants a better life away from being a wanted man and trying to start over fresh in hopes of starting a marriage and family if he can find the perfect woman.

Mr Gowan attempts to further his business partnership with Abigail Stanton who runs the cafe in town. Jack tells Abigail that he has discovered that the mining accident that killed most of the men in town, including her husband and son, may not been an accident. It may have been caused by Mr. Gowan cutting a few corners and he hopes to find the evidence to prove it. Abigail takes it upon herself to be the one to do it if she can find a way into Mr. Gowan's office. Soon all three paths will cross and fate may claim more than one life in the process, but it will forever change all of their lives.

I received When Calls the Heart: Change of Heart compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This has been one of my favorite shows on the Hallmark Channel this year and I love that it is available on DVD. Michael Landon Jr is executive producer on the series inspired by the novels of Janette Oke and is definitely one the entire family can enjoy together. It inspires us that in the face of adversity, hope can still be found in banding together with family and friends. If you LOVED Little House on the Prairie, I would encourage you to check out this series. For me this one easily claims a 5 out of 5 stars. This is the 5th in the series to date.

When Calls the Heart - Second Chances

Just on the cusp of the first season coming to a close, When Calls The Heart, a series from the Hallmark Channel and adapted from the best-selling series from Janette Oke, finds a calling in the hearts of television viewers. Now this amazing series is available on DVD, and Second Chances, finds Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) at her wits end after finding out that the man she was falling for, Billy Hamilton was only out for Elizabeth's family fortune. When Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), lets it slide that Elizabeth has no money, Billy decides Coal Valley isn't for him after all. Now Elizabeth begins to doubt her own emotions and once again is indebted to Jack. Jack struggles to find a way to convey the true feelings he has for Elizabeth and offers to take her to dinner, but with a lack of somewhere to take her in town, besides the saloon. Jack opts to help Elizabeth out with one of her students so they can spend time together.

Elizabeth is excited when a shipment of books arrives to aid one of her students Bo Grady that is struggling to read. She feels that if she can get him excited about reading it might provide a light to a future outside of mining.  It seems that the more Jack tries to convey his feelings for Elizabeth, the more he puts his foot in his mouth. Once again the two find themselves at odds. Elizabeth finds solace in talking things over with her friend, Abigail Stanton who dreams of opening a restaurant in Coal Valley. But first she has to get permission from Mr. Gowen, who owns everything in Coal Valley, including the mining company. Even though the store has sat vacant, she seems determined that she can make it work and its something the town of Coal Valley can use. But Mr. Gowen seems determined to prove to Abigail that a woman can't succeed at anything without his help. The only way he'll provide the cafe to Abigail is if she is willing to leave the row house she's lived in since her husband and son died.

Adam Miller is about to make his homecoming after corresponding with his family while recovering from the mining accident. What he failed to tell them was he has lost his legs, even though his family is more than thrilled to have him home, he sees himself as less than a man, and one that won't be able to provide for his family.  He realizes that even though he is finally home, it may not be the best place for his family. Now if they can only convince him that it isn't about his leg that makes him a husband and father. Things are about to get interesting when Elizabeth is put in charge of the annual production of the Coal Valley Founder's Day parade with no time to prepare and everyone has the highest expectations that it simply be the best. But will it?

I received When Calls the Heart: Second Chances compliments of Word Films, the Hallmark Channel and Edify Media Inc for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own. Not since Little House on the Prairie has their been a series this good and I am thrilled that I am able to share this with my entire family. It is produced from Michael Landon Jr who is following in his father's footsteps with producing family friendly shows. I love that we can all sit and enjoy something that is wholesome, without any questionable content, and suitable for all ages. There is so many great things about each episode and in this one it is all about second chances for each of the characters, from Jack and Elizabeth attempting to work on building their relationship, showing Bo Grady there is more to life than mining, and even for Abigail who has the opportunity to begin rebuilding her life after losing her husband and son. Hands down for me, one of my favorite series brought to television, and I can't wait for season two to begin soon. This DVD rates a 5 out of 5 stars and is part of the When Calls The Heart series. You will want to pick them all up and watch it from the beginning. This DVD is 85 minutes long. This is the fourth in the series to date.

When Calls the Heart: The Dance - DVD Review

If you are looking for an incredible family series that is appropriate for the entire family, then look no further than Hallmark Channel's When Calls The Heart! Based on the novels from best-selling author Janette Oke and combining the writing talents of Michael Landon Jr., you get an amazing story of life on the frontier for school teacher Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) in the small mining town of Coal Valley. Even though viewers know the feelings between Miss Thatcher and Canadian Mounty, Jack Thorton (Daniel Lissing) has been sparking since the very beginning both of them maintain their proper boundaries from one another.

In the DVD release of When Calls the Heart: The Dance, we know see the small town coming back to familiar routines and one of them being the Miner games, which is hosting by the entire town for the miners and their families. As the mine ramps back up to full operation since the mining explosion that killed most of them men and their sons in Coal Valley, a new load of miners arrives at the mine. We now see, Billy Hamilton, a charismatic and handsome miner take interest in Miss Thatcher and he isn't afraid to let her know his is interested, even quoting romantic poetry he claims as his own. Even though Elizabeth has reservations about his methods, she isn't about to wait on Jack forever to make his feelings known. But Jack warns Elizabeth not to be so trusting, without him investigation Billy Hamilton more fully. Elizabeth just thinks Jack is jealous.

Some of the other women in town seem to be interested in the miners as well. But when a string of robberies begin to hit the town, Jack feels that he knows who the criminal is and sets up a trap to capture Billy Hamilton in the act. He attempts to show Elizabeth that the information he has on Billy proves his is hiding something and if she doesn't watch out she may lose more than just her heart. So who is hiding the biggest secret of all in Coal Valley? Viewers of When Calls The Heart: The Dance, will have to pick this one up to find out!

I received When Calls the Heart: The Dance compliments of Word Films and Edify Media Group for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for an honest review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. Not since Little House on the Prairie has there been a series until When Calls the Heart and if you loved the Little House Series or simply love a great family series set in the Old West, then you will LOVE this one. I easily give this a 5 out of 5 stars and can't wait for the next season to air on the Hallmark Channel. Fans of Love Come Softly will absolutely LOVE this one as well. The chemistry between Elizabeth and Jack is so strong it won't take much to light these two on fire and that is part of the appeal as well as the love Elizabeth brings to school the children of Coal Valley in the town's saloon to teach them there is more to life than working in the mines. This is the third DVD in the series.

When Calls the Heart - A Telling Silence

Sometimes it's the things we don't say that have the most powerful impact in the lives of those we love. Such is the case in the latest DVD addition to the When Calls The Heart series that has been showcased on the Hallmark Channel from best selling author Janette Oke. In A Telling Silence, Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) is called upon to investigate the destruction of the town's church that was destroyed by a fire. The church's pastor believes that it wasn't an accident and asks Jack to look into a possible cause by Cat Montgomery, one of the women in town that has taken it upon herself to continue church services among the trees until a new church is built. But did Cat really have anything to do with burning down the church? What evidence will Jack uncover that will point to one of the only people in town to have purchased whale oil, the cause of the fire?

While Jack continues to look for other sources of who purchased the whale oil, Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), Coal Valley's school teacher notices that Rosaleen Sullivan fails to speak due to what her mother believes was caused by losing her father in the coal mine explosion. Yet as intelligent as Rosaleen appears, Elizabeth believes there is more to her story than anyone realizes. Especially when she seems more than terrified of a strange man that appears in town. Elizabeth believes that there is more to the story than anyone knows and convinces Jack to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child's fear. But will Elizabeth believe what Jack discovers or will she take matters into her own hands?

Fan's of Little House on the Prairie will love this timeless series that Janette Oke breathed life into and with the direction of Michael Landon Jr have brought it to reality through Hallmark Channel. Now available on DVD through Word Films, A Telling Silence is the third DVD to bring this series back into your home. The romantic tension between constable Jack Thornton and Elizabeth Thatcher is pure romantic chemistry and show cases the lives of the residents of Coal Valley, a town created by the Northwest Mining company. When an explosion claimed the lives of many of the town's men, the women remained to raise their children and took it upon themselves to hire Miss Thatcher as a school teacher. Believing there is more to life than coal mining, she reaches out to her students in extraordinary ways.

When Calls The Heart - DVD Giveaway

What happens when you blend together two very different periods in time into a poignant movie? For me, you get a sensational movie to speaks to both your heart and soul! Think Dowtown Abbey meets the old west and you have the backdrop to When Calls The Heart, a family movie from Michael Landon Jr and Word Films.

This is the film adaptation of the story by best selling author Janette Oke about Elizabeth Thatcher (Poppy Drayton) who wishes to make a difference in her life by using her teaching skills to work in a school. But soon after meeting with Mr. Higgins, she learns the only way she'll be able to get a teaching position is if she is willing to do whatever it takes to show Mr. Higgins just how grateful she truly is. However Mr. Higgins isn't suggesting the same type of gratefulness that Elizabeth is. She is horrified to learn that when she declines his proposition, the only available teaching position he offers her, is one out west in Coal Valley that he believes she will never take. Being the daughter of a prominent high society family, she feels confident she should prove them all wrong, even her parents who believe that the horrors of living on the west will be more than she can handle.

Her sister Julie, even goes so far to prove her point by suggesting she live in the old caretakers cottage on the family estate without aid of servants to cook and clean for her. She doesn't expect Elizabeth to take the wager and believes her strong determination to prove her family wrong will ultimately win. But Julie isn't about to be swayed. She takes it upon herself to make sure that Elizabeth is an uncomfortable in the cottage as possible even using some hints from an old family diary she discovers locked in her parents safe to help speed along the wager.

However armed with the determination of not only in proving her family and Mr. Higgins wrong, Elizabeth immerses herself in the diary of her Aunt Elizabeth (Maggie Grace) who left the family to head west for a teaching position herself in Pine Springs and chronicles just how difficult it was but how perseverance and faith in God allowed her to triumph where others believe she would fail. The movie toggles between the story of both Elizabeth's living in different time periods but with similar circumstances that cheer one another to move forward in their quest to do what each of them believes is a calling in their own heart to make a difference.

I received When Calls the Heart compliments of Word Films and Edify Media for my honest review and did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable one. My only wish is for more of this series. My youngest daughter when we viewed the trailer couldn't wait for the movie to come in the mail to review. She was anticipating this one as much as I was. We were not disappointed when we literally watched it the same day we got it. She even cried during the movie but it goes to show just how much storms will try our character and faith but in the long run, it truly is worth the effort. Hands down, a perfect 5 out of 5 star rating in our opinion and one we have added to our own personal family library collection. This is a film for all ages to view and LOVE that more films like this are being masterfully created for us to enjoy at home. This movie aired previously on the Hallmark Channel and had led to the creation of a television series coming in 2014. This movie received 5 doves for family entertainment.
