The Assault

If you love anything dealing with the supernatural from a Christian perspective, then you need to check out the Harbinger Series. Each cycle of the series takes the talents of well-known Christian authors and gives them the opportunity to expand on an ongoing series with very different characters point of view. Think of it, like a television series but in this case each author is adding their own spin to the continuing saga that is plaguing a unique set of characters from vastly different backgrounds. This cycle of the Harbinger series is the second one and incorporates the stories of The Revealing by Bill Myers, Infestation by Frank Peretti, Infiltration by Angela Hunt and The Fog by Alton Gansky.

In the series, Bill Myers writes as Brenda, a street-hustling tattoo artist who sees images of the future. Frank Peretti writes as the Professor, the atheist ex-priest who is ruled by logic. Angela Hunt writes as Andi, the professor's brilliant but geeky assistant who sees inexplicable patterns and Alton Gansky writes as Tank, the naive, big-hearted jock with a surprising connection to a healing power. So instead of the four talented authors writing one novella together, this comes together like a television series. There is an overarching storyline into which they each plug their own novellas, with each story written from our characters point of view.

In The Revealing, the team is gathered together under the direction of Bill Myers and they find themselves searching for the Spear of Destiny, which is coveted by those who seek it because it is said that those that weld the instrument that was used to plunge into the body of Jesus Christ on the cross still retains some supernatural properties and now the hunt it on for those who want to keep it hidden and those who want it found. In The Infestation by Frank Peretti, the team is thrust back into their pasts to deal with situations that were never resolved and this time an unseen fungus is attempting to infect the world without anyone knowing what is happening. When one of the team is affected will they be able to figure out a way to stop it before it kills them?

In Infiltration, the team discover a secret plot by those that they have been following are now all connected to their various discoveries and now they are being hunted one by one by something that no one can see but involves going back into their pasts before they were united as if they never met. They will have to convince each other that they do have a connection in some future event if they hope to succeed in not only keeping the team together but keeping them alive. Finally in The Fog, Alton Gansky takes our team to the top of a high rise building as a fog rushes in with the ability not only to kill on ground level but it begins to rise and with it the body counts continue to climb as well.

I received The Assault by Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt and Alton Gansky compliments of Baker Publishing Group and Net Galley. In accordance with the new FTC Guidelines for blogging and endorsements, you should assume that every book reviewed here at Reviews From The Heart was provided to the reviewer by the publisher, media group or the author for free and were received, unless specified otherwise.  I have absolutely LOVED this entire series and even though these individual books were written before, they are collected in groups of four known as the Cycle of the Harbinger series. Readers even get a sneak peek at the coming Cycle Three at the conclusion of this collection. These must be read in order not as individual stand alones otherwise as a reader, you would be completely lost by not understanding each characters motivation in working together to solve what is happening not only to them as individuals but also to the world in an effort to save them all. In this one, The Fog was my absolute favorite. There is just something creepy about a fog that can rise until it claims every last person it touches. 5 out of 5 stars again in my opinion and can't wait to read the next one.

Invitation

Harbinger: (noun). A person or thing that announces or signals the approach of another; a forerunner of something.

A crazy school in Southern California with a well that reaches to the spiritual world; a house that haunts instead of being haunted; birds and other animals dying with their eyes missing; a young deserted girl who can appear and disappear at will. These are the harbingers in cycle one of the Harbingers Series of novels by Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt and Alton Gansky. Think of it like a Christian version of the Twilight Zone and each author takes their turn at one of four characters from their perspective and spins their own unique spin on this unusual pairing of people in episode after episode.

Bill Myers tells the story from Brenda's perspective, a street hustling tattoo artist who sees images of the future. Frank Peretti writes as the professor, the atheist ex-priest ruled by logic, Angela Hunt writes as Andi, the professor's brilliant but geeky assistant who sees inexplicable patterns and Alton Gansky writes as Tank, the naive, big-hearted jock with a surprising connection to a healing power. The Call from Bill Myers sets the stage, followed by Frank Peretti's The Haunted, Angela Hunt's The Sentinels and Alton Gansky's The Girl. These are all coupled in one book known as the Invitation even though you could pick these up one at a time, I was completely glued to each of them.

Each novella offers a bit of the unusual supernatural as only these masters of Christian speculative fiction can weave. These team of rag-tag individuals have been pulled together for some reason yet unknown. Is it a calling on their lives from God or something more sinister and dark. I've been a huge literary fan of each of these authors in their own right and love the collaboration to put something together that I would LOVE to see on a television series. Nothing is ever solved but in each, the characters are tasked to perform each of their unique gifts along with a young boy named Daniel they meet in The Haunted. I don't want to give too much away, but if you love the creepy, suspenseful, dark and supernatural, you will WANT to pick this one up. Readers even get a sneak peek at The Revealing, the 5th installment in the series. I received Invitation by Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt and Alton Gansky compliments of Bethany House Publishers and Net Galley. This collection is due out in April of 2017 and trust me, you WILL want them all. For me, this was an easy 5 out of 5 stars and held me on the edge of my seat by these talented and gifted authors. Now I am off to find the rest of the series!

Angel of Wrath

When you want a great suspense thriller that couple a bit of the spiritual warfare, you would immediately think of Frank Peretti, but now there are quite a few authors that have picked up the proverbial baton as it were on the Christian side of things and run with it. Bill Myers is one such incredibly talented author who picks up with the sequel of The Voice with Angel of Wrath. It delivers just what is promises and you don't have to read The Voice to gain an appreciation for this one.

The trio that we met in the first novel, Special Ops Agent Charlie Madison, Lisa Harmon, an ex FBI agent and Jazmin, his thirteen-year-old niece find themselves dragged into an unexplained series of murders involving the pastor of the local church and Lisa's brother, Thomas and his family. As each member of the body of the church family winds up dead with no witnesses other than a cryptic calling card outlining their religious crimes from adulterer, gossip, murderers and more. The body count is adding up faster than the local police can attempt to find clues. The only ties seem to be with an ex military agent known only as Kristof, who has garnered the worship of the high school teens to take part in a Satanic worship to call forth an enemy from the spiritual realm that will do their bidding.

Believing they are ushering in the end time events culminating with the unholy alliance of Jesus Christ and Satan, they have begun their own brand of religious cleansing of the church who has forgotten their first love and instead it about its own glory in building the world's largest megachurch. No longer preaching the gospel message as it might offend newcomers and the younger generation, these members of the church have found that sin is quite profitable until the light is shined upon it, including its own head the church Lisa's brother. They have little time to locate the killer and try to find a way to send back the demon summoned from hell before more wind up dead. It will take a battle of their backgrounds but mostly faith to fight those that want them all dead.

Angel of Wrath is the sequel to The Voice from Bill Myers and I absolutely love how this one played out throughout the book. You weren't sure if it was all demonically driven or if there was another player working in the background and it seems as if it may not be over. This novel is not overly religious, but it does bring faith into the picture against the demons they have summoned to do their bidding and at some point transports some of our characters into the very pit of what could be called hell as we meet with legion. What I love about this novel is that it showcases the danger of dealing with the occult and while we might believe we have power over evil, it is all a facade and what is often summoned is more than what people might believe. It simply opens a doorway into the spiritual realm that allows evil an opportunity to gain a foothold. But the power of good and faith is used to show just how powerful knowing Jesus can be when the battle goes beyond what they thought. Forgiveness, redemption and love are the key themes to this novel. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions presented here are strictly my own honest ones. I would give this novel a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The Judas Gospel

The one bad guy we all know from the Bible is Judas Iscariot. He's the one that believed Jesus was headed for greatness by being here on Earth. In fact, if Jesus would have just let Judas handle things, He would have been the greatest person to rule the Earth and live instead of face crucifixion by the Romans.

Still dealing with those thoughts, Judas makes a case for himself to Jesus to explain how things could have been different if he had handled things. Yet, the past is past but Judas explains if he can show Jesus he was right, maybe things would change for him. So Jesus offers Judas a chance at redeeming himself.

Judas is allowed to return to Earth and work with Rachel Delacroix, a young woman that God has given a unique gift of healing to. Armed with all the marketing techniques of today's ministry, Mr. Jude Miller will show not only the entire world but even the heaven's that he truly does know that we all expect God's best in our lives.

Despite Rachel's gift of healing she also is having nightmares of horrific murders in which she is not only a witness but in some cases, she is also a participant. Unsure of what these dreams mean, she works with a therapist for the police department, Dr. Sharon Fields to determine what is going on in her mind and if possible, controlling those nightmares with a new medication.

In the newest novel by Bill Myers, The Judas Gospel, we get to see a different side of the ministry going on in the world that attempts to sell God for a profit. We eventually get to the true bottom line at the end, when we see the ultimate price, Jesus paid for any one of us. This book once more captivates the reader from the first page and will hold our interest spell bound until the last page is turned. Another superb book to add to your library and worthy of 5 out of 5 stars once again.

I received this book through my own purchase to review it, and highly recommend this as a must read for anyone who loves suspense, crime solving, with a supernatural twist! The Face of God

In the Old Testament, God divided His people into twelve tribes. Each one represented by a colored stone worn in the breastplate woven in gold that the high priest would wear as he entered the Holy of Holies, the sacred temple of God where the Ark of the Covenant was kept and where he would atone for the sins of the people of Israel.

Pastor Daniel Lawson is touring Istanbul with his wife Jill as their church is visiting Israel. When stopping to purchase some honey and ground sesame seed at a local stand, the merchant stops talking to Jill and sees a man begin approaching. In a hushed voice he wraps up a package and hands it to Jill and her husband and begs for them to leave. He is abruptly taken by the police and dragged off. Only a man remains staring at Jill and her husband.

When they return to their hotel, they discover there isn't any honey and sesame seed in the package, but a brilliant palm size emerald with Hebrew writing on it. As they get ready to depart their hotel, Jill rushes back in to get a shawl to cover her shoulders. When she is delayed a bit too long, an aid comes to get Daniel from their bus. When they return to their room, Daniel finds his wife has been stabbed and is dying leaving him a few words of a dream she had that will alter his life forever.

Ibrahim el-Magd is a man to be feared. A devote follower of the Qur'an, he is planning what he believes with be Allah's Day of Wrath, an unleashing of a jihad that will leave millions of non-believers dead. After 9/11, this will be the final battle of the infidels and will be Allah's final word. Now with everything set to go with biological and chemicals weapons awaiting his words, he is waiting on the Voice of Allah to confirm his timing. With four of the stones in possession, he is tracking those that have the remaining 8 stones. Legend has it that whoever possess those 12 stones, will hear the voice of God and be able to know the future outcomes of any war. With it he will begin his jihad on the world.

Doctor Helen Zimmerman has been working with the Israeli government to excavate more land to search for missing artifacts in hopes of finding the Ark of the Covenant that she believes the Knights Templar were in charge of protecting. When a colleague tells her that she is to go to America and befriend a Pastor who seems to be in possession of a great archaeological find, one of the 12 stones of the Tribes of Israel If she doesn't, all of her permits to uncover treasure will be pulled.

In the novel, The Face of God by Bill Myers, we follow a rag-tag team of hearty adventurers much like ourselves in search of the God's truth and His purpose. Much like a modern day Indiana Jones, Pastor Daniel Lawson has visions from God defining his purpose in searching for the stones of the tribes of Israel. Following the predictions from his dying wife, he believes if he finds them, he will hear the Voice of God and rediscover his lost passion.

I received this book compliments of Pump Up Your Book for my honest review and once again, Bill Myers doesn't disappoint. You find yourself, living in the hottest desert climates, searching underwater caves, and blinding sandstorms while slowly discovering God's secret for all of us along the way. Action packed by the page, this book rates a 5 out of 5 stars. It's left me wanting even more and can't wait to pick up the next book from Bill Myers. For those of you that love action, adventure, mystery and Bible artifacts and treasures, than this book is for you.

The Voice

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God, and the first words that God ever spoke was "Let there be light."

What would happen if people could have a way to use sound waves and vibrations from objects, the have been where God was, and develop a way to capture that on tape. They could then have the voice of God. Think of all the possibilities in life that you could benefit from if you had the same power as that of God's voice?

Not only could you speak things into creation, you could heal every type of sickness, illness, injury there ever was, you could even speak life back into people that died. You could also destroy them just as quickly.

Charlie Madison was hoping to find peace at some point in his life when he leaves the Special Forces after his wife and child were brutally murdered by assassins that wanted to take Charlie out for good. Now he finds himself thrust back into survival mode when his niece Jazmin, flees to him to rescue her. Her parents and others have discovered the voice print of God and it seems like people will do anything to make sure they are the ones to have control over it.

Charlie's Special Ops training will have to be used to find and rescue his sister and brother in law, and in the process find healing for the loss of life he feels personally responsible with his own family. Perhaps he can find a way to make amends.

I received the book, The Voice by Bill Myers, as a gift from my husband and as I am now beginning to discover on my third book from Bill Myers, he is one talented writer. The elements that he uses to take the reader along on the characters journey in the book, is action packed, fast paced and thrilling all at the same time. It's no wonder how quickly you are immersed into his stories, heart and soul, until the very last page. Bill Myers' books are not to be missed and if this one sounds like something you'd be interested in, you should check out his others. Like this book, they have all rated hands down, 5 out of 5 stars.

Eli

What if Jesus had not come until today?

Who would follow Him?

Who would kill Him?

Conrad Davis, well known TV journalist is about to get a very unexpected view at his life in two different realities.

We have always known that the biggest news story will be the lead story, the one with the most drama, the most impact, the one with a shock and awe to it.

Yet Conrad Davis has been searching all his life for the perfect story that will take his life to new levels. That of a success, more money, more prestige, and more fame. So when all his attempts come back with less than pleasing results and even a degree of being mocked by his fellow co-workers, Conrad sets up a meeting with a man who may be able to prove that dual realities exist right alongside our present one.

However, an unexpected accident is about to change things and put into motion a life alternating one. Conraid is about to see things in two different worlds. While he lays completely on life support in a coma, awaiting the arrival of his daughter Julia who will ultimately decide if her dad needs to remain in the hospital or end his life as executor of his will, he will go back in time to the late 60's.

A time when the world will be changed forever by the birth of a baby in a laundry mat. His name is Eli and he's about to show the world how much love can change things and make a life worth living. A life that one is even willing to die for.

I received the book Eli by Bill Myers, from my husband Steven for my birthday this year. I wanted this book after reading The God Haters and had to see for myself if one book could completely change a person just after one reading. I had to say I wasn't convinced at first as so many books, I've read have changed you emotionally by pulling at your heart strings, but in Eli, I got to see life through the eyes of what our world would have been like if a man like Eli walked among us. How his ultimate sacrifice and teaching through stories along the way would affect me like never before.

People have read the Bible and sometimes don't see the relevance in reading stories that happened so long ago and can't fathom seeing it taking place now, but Bill Myers has masterfully through a divine hand, made this possible. Through a modern re-telling of the story of Jesus, we are drawn like a moth to a flame to seeing things through fresh eyes in our own world today.

All I can say is that each word will hold you to the last page, the final word and the final tear falls from your eyes as if you heard it for the very first time. This one rates well outside of the 5 star rating and deserves a much 10 out 10 eternal stars for making such a huge impact in my own life. I truly never saw the story coming out the way Bill shares and must applaud him for one of the best books I've read besides the Bible.

I can't wait to share this book with others who I know will see it from a new perspective. This comes as a MUST READ, one you won't regret reading and one that will change you forever! This would be a great book to share with this generation of youth that can finally see the relation between this world and one with Eli!

The God Hater

In today's age, video games and virtual realities are becoming a bit of the norm. Yet what we don't see is how they overlap and parallel one another.

In this technological age, artificial intelligence has been toyed with but never fully mastered, until now. Using nanobots to replicate a single cell and transfer that information to a computer has been simple, but we know the human body is made up of more individual cells than we could count, much less taking all the information and storing it in one place.

We have discovered a way to compile that information using a simple program like the ones that compile information for SETI, that has given us access to personal computers when they are not being turned on to run our data through. Billions and billions of them are being linked together to translate this data and create a virtual world in which, we, are the computer generated likenesses in a new virtual world.

The one problem is that free will of the characters can not be tampered with, they must chose their own fate, and every single program up to this point has lead to self destruction of the race. Now it's up to Nicholas Mackenzie, an professor with a rare intellect at disputing the creation theory, now has the chance to prove himself correct or admit defeat.

I received the book, The God Hater by Bill Myers, compliments of Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Tours for my honest review, and was blown away by the storyline and how much it overlaps where we, as a world and technology are headed. The parallels in the lives of Nicholas Mackenzie and his virtual alter ego, and that of the son he lost at the age of five, teaches us all a different version of the price that is paid daily for the individual choices we make and what differences we can make in the lives of those around us.

I love this book immensely for the way it uses a combination of The Matrix, Tron, and The Sims, to showcase to us all where we are headed if we choose to follow the virus. Hands down one of the best books I've read to date, with an outstanding 5 out of 5 star rating. This is a must for anyone who is interested in what the story of redemption is really all about. For those of you that love all that high tech, virtual reality and nanobots, this is one written just for you.
