Passport 2 Purity - Product Review

Passport2Purity from FamilyLife® on Vimeo.

It seems like growing up for our children and teens is becoming more challenging. This is a much different world than the one I know I grew up in and even for my own teen daughter, it is a way different world for her as well. What worked for us thirty years ago isn't so much what is accepted today and that is where the Passport 2 Purity Getaway Kit comes into play. Inside this kit is a weekend getaway of sorts for you and your teen, to prepare for an overnight or weekend trip to discuss what challenges they are likely to face as they grow up. How the world can influence them, social media, their friends and even the challenges they struggle with with hormonal changes can be a lot for a teen to handle. So planning this is a perfect way to get a chance to talk about what really matters.

Inside the kit you will find a total of 8 CDs hosted by Dennis and Barbara Rainey who help coach you through these challenging topics like Running with the Herd, the challenges that are represented by having good and bad influences in their life, Ready for an Upgrade dealing with all the changes that are going on with your teens body and how that is changing them into adults, Destination Le Pure, is a topic covering what it means to stay pure until marriage and how God views relationships in accordance to the standards God has designed for all of us, and even Crossing the Dateline, what happens when things go a bit further than you had intended them to go, or you found yourself in a bit too deep. Each of these topics is discussed as you listen to a CD in two parts designed to run about an hour each. Along with each lesson, there is a great fun activity to drive the points home and hopefully make them a bit more memorable to learn from. Our favorite was the Running with The Herd activity. It deals with how influences can change you from who you wanted to be, into something you may or may not want to be later.

Your teen is given her own Passport Journal to capture her thoughts and open areas for discussion for both of you. Such as what qualities do you look for in friends now and perhaps what qualities you might want to consider in future friends. At the conclusion of this lesson for you and your teen, you are given an opportunity to present them with contract, to help them stay pure until marriage and options of gift ideas like a purity ring or necklace that helps remind your teen to stay pure for God. I only wish I would have had this for my first daughter, it might have saved her quite a bit of heartache and create a great discussion point for us to keep communication open. Being a corporate trainer, I know that the lessons coupled with the activities will definitely be something they remember and hopefully talk to their friends about.

I received The Passport 2 Purity by Dennis and Barbara Rainey compliments of Family Life and Propeller LLC for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review aside from receiving the Passport 2 Purity Getaway Kit. The activity my daughter loved the most was the Running with the Herd because it teaches you about the good and bad influences people can have in your life, once you make some compromises you can't go back to who you were before, so you might want to choose wisely. It was definitely a homerun activity for my daughter and one she can't wait to share with her high school youth group at church. For us, that just speaks volumes and we presented her with her choice of a purity ring to help remind her to stay pure for marriage. It is definitely worth the wait and not the message the world wants our teens to hear. For us, its well worth all 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

The Confident Mom

As a mom, have you ever wondered if maybe you could have done a better job at raising your kids or looked at someone else and questioned maybe where you are going wrong in your own life? Why do we second guess our efforts when God clearly isn't done with our kids yet? Why do we look at what is going on in other's lives when we don't know what they have had to go through to get to where they are? So how do we move forward and gain a better understanding on how to be a more confident mom based on the abilities and talents God has uniquely given each of us and our kids?

Joyce Meyers has written a book called The Confident Mom to guide your family with God's strength and wisdom. I've always found that sometimes our best resources of truth can be discovered within the Bible, but just where to find it becomes the challenge. Joyce does an exceptional job at incorporating her humor as a mom in relating to us exactly where we have all found ourselves sometimes wondering just what the point is in all of this child rearing from a mom's perspective using the wisdom found in the Bible.

"We can all relate to those idyllic dreams we once had about our soon-to-be-born little bundles of joy. We also remember when the reality of the situation set in. Little bundles of joy grew into teething toddlers who cried and threw up on us every time we got dressed up to go out. They threw temper tantrums and tried to drink out of the dog bowl. Soon, instead of feeling sure of ourselves, we started wondering if we really have what it takes to do this right. We started seeing our short comings, focusing on our failures, and feeling inadequate.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Every mom (no matter how awesomely competent she may appear to be) has lost her confidence at one time or another. But, thank God, there is a way to get your confidence back. It's actually possible for us as mothers, at any stage in our lives, to regain, not the false and fleeting kind of confidence but the real thing: the kind that keeps us looking forward with assurance even when things are going wrong - the kind that keeps us looking up instead of down, in spite of our mistakes. The kind that enables us to laugh at our imperfections and be positive about ourselves and what we can do instead of worrying about what we can't do." (excerpt page 7-8.)

Sound like something you'd want to know more about? Then trust me, when I say, you'll definitely want to pick up The Confident Mom by Joyce Meyers. There is something in this book for anyone even if we have kids who are grown and living outside of our homes. We all know that confidence in our abilities makes us stronger and able to gain insight to struggling moms everywhere who ask us how we seem to have it all together. We can sit back smile, and know we've all been there at one point in our lives and have arrived! "The difference between a good mom and a great mom is her supreme confidence in her supreme God!"

I received The Confident Mom by Joyce Meyers compliments of Faith Words, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed in this review are strictly my own unless otherwise noted. Joyce shows us not only how to rely on the advice God provides in His Word, but also how to make sure the children we raise remain confident in their own faith even though at times, some may fall away or stray, God will bring them back in His own timing and in His own way. We just have to have faith in the abilities we have instilled in them, God won't let them go too far! God doesn't expect us to be perfect, only trust in Him to help raise our children! I easily give this one a 5 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

All-In 2 Night

Now more than ever, I think spending time with family members has gotten lost in the shuffle of our busy lifestyles. More parents are working outside of the home, dinners are often a grab and go when there is time to stop and kids are immersed in technology in virtually every aspect of their lives. Much of the time spent together doing things as a family is now becoming a thing of the past, but as we know, there is a danger in losing our connection with one another, especially family members. That is where author Lynne Burgess got the idea to incorporate what she calls family nights back into her home and she has shared her secrets in her latest book called All-In2Night.

In this book, Lynne shares how they instilled God's values into their children every week through All-in Night. It's not a very long or complicated book. When her kids were little and busy, she wanted books that were easy to read and got to the point. Some of the topics in this book include resilience, wisdom, purpose, a healthy self-esteem, pride, managing yourself, self discipline, plus so much more. Through every one of her All-In Nights, they wove God's beautiful acceptance of everyone, and they made sure that their kids knew He loved them unconditionally.

There are 40 topics in this book that Lynne shares with you not only her family's issues in that particular area such as fear. The section includes what the purpose of this week discussion will be about, in this case, to discuss scenarios where your child might feel afraid and teach them strategies to cope.

Then there are activities you work on together beginning with a verse from the Bible that you reward your kids for memorizing. In this case, Joshua 1:9 "I have commanded you to be strong and brave. Don't ever be afraid or discouraged! I am the Lord your God, and I will be there to help wherever you go. (CEV). There are some great conversation opening questions to discuss fear and situations that one might be afraid of. Next comes a fun family activity that solidifies the point to your family. In this case it's a new twist on Hide and Seek and Marco Polo in the dark.

The book is definitely among one I would highly recommend to new parents or even soon to be parents to gain a foothold on making learning valuable Godly lessons and behaviors not only fun, but ones that hopefully they will carry into their own family as they grow. I received All-In 2Night by Lynne Burgess compliments of Even Before Publishing and Book Crash for my honest review and received no monetary compensation for a favorable one. Hands down, this is such an excellent resource, I wish I would have had this when my children were much younger to create lasting memories and lessons that will enable them to be confident young adults as they grow. In my opinion, I'd rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars.
