I can't tell you how much my family has really enjoyed them, especially my husband who claimed all three packages of the Italian Cheese & Herb ones for himself. General Mills Whole Grain First Ingredient Prize Pack Giveaway

Ringing in the New Year often means new eating habits. We know whole grain is important to you, and the Dietary Guidelines recommend choosing products with a whole grain listed as the first ingredient. Now every cereal with the white check has more whole grain than any other single ingredient with the same great taste. You will see "whole grain" as a part of the first ingredient on the ingredient list, indicating that whole grain is the first and most prevalent ingredient.

According to Dr. Travis Stork, emergency room physician and host of "The Doctors," identifying whole grain products can be challenging. Shoppers can look for nutritional cues on the front of the box, but they need to read the ingredient list to know if they are getting enough whole grain. Ingredient lists detail ingredients in order of prevalence, and if the words "whole grain" are followed by a grain like wheat or oats, it means the food contains more whole grain than any other single ingredient. Here´s how to determine if your cereals have whole grain as a first ingredient:




With all the health messages facing grocery store shoppers, it can be confusing to translate what appears on food labels into nutritional needs, and hard to determine which foods have a meaningful amount of whole grain. Dr. Stork has some additional recommendations to help you include whole grain easily into your diet. They include:

• Start Early! The Dietary Guidelines recommend people get at least 48 grams of whole grain in their daily diets. Get a jump-start on the day´s nutrition by incorporating whole grain into your morning routine. For instance, when choosing cereal make sure whole grain is listed as the first ingredient. One easy choice is cereal with the white check, which have more whole grain than any other single ingredient.

• Make Simple Swaps. Choose whole grain versions of the foods you love. Great options include whole wheat pasta and whole wheat bread or even whole grain crackers. Also, try different types of whole grain. Use brown rice instead of white rice as a side dish at dinner or popcorn, which is a whole grain, for a snack.

• Don´t Judge a Food by Its Cover. The front of food packages provide good nutritional cues, but don´t forget to read the ingredients and check the nutrition label and side labels for additional health information. Cereals with the white check even include the amount of whole grain per serving on packaging.

Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch

If you are like me and my family, we are true die hard chocolate lovers. It's usually in our home in some form or another. So when I got the opportunity to review the newest Brownie Crunch from Cocoa Puffs, created by General Mills, I jumped at the chance.

When the product arrived, my oldest daughter was the very first to sample the cereal being a bigger fan of chocolate than I am. She had them for a late afternoon snack and LOVED them. The chocolate flavor is very rich and tasted just like brownies in milk with an extra added crunch. The best part of it besides that she loves it was knowing that she is getting at least 8 grams of whole grain and a great source of calcium and vitamin D in every serving.

My youngest daughter just loves eating it straight out of the box as a snack. The best part of it is the convenience of having something that appeals to my kids and knowing that its a perfect balance of whole grain goodness and chocolate flavor in every bite.

For me, when I had a bowl full it's too sweet for me, but I wanted to offer my opinion as well. If it were up to my kids they would have this cereal with chocolate milk! It does taste like baked brownies and it's filled with chocolate flavor. The best part about it, is my kids love it and I know it's filled with whole grains, Vitamin D and calcium in every serving. It can't get much better than that.

Game Day - MyGetTogether

Just wanted to share our incredible get together that was hosted in part by General Mills and Chex Mix Snacks yesterday!

We invited some of my daughters friends over for "Game Day" this weekend now with much cooler temps and believe it or not, a three hour thunderstorm. For us here in the high desert, that is reason to celebrate! So staying indoors and having fun was something we all wanted to do and making it fun was better the more people who stopped by.



The wonderful folks at General Mills were kind enough to get our party going with a generous supply of Chex Mix snacks and a wonderful Chex bowl to keep the snacking going! We had three wonderful flavors to sample, with one being the traditional Chex Mix always a family favorite in our home, Turtle Chex Mix, which is a chocolate and caramel blend, and Honey Chex Mix which is now our new favorite featured a blend of sweet and salty!



Topped that off with some pizzas from our local pizza place and some drinks and we were all set for a night of fun. We started off with some family favorites like Monopoly and then we all opted for a fun game called Catch Phrase. After the snacks and pizzas we all settled down for some family DVD's before finally calling it a night.

The best part of it was having all the teens sample the Chex Mix and hands down the favorite was the Honey Chex Mix. Every guest left with a handful of coupons to get their favorite flavors for our next party or sooner in another month. We also love having friends over for a fun day of snacks, games and quality time.
