The Church Awakening - Giveaway and Review

There have been so many changes in the way the current churches teach us about God from where it first began. Back in the days of Jesus, the church was founded on four distinct foundations which are found in the scripture in Acts 2:42,

"They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."

Did you locate those primary foundations?

1. Teaching
2. Fellowship
3. Breaking of Bread
4. Prayer

Are these found within the church you currently attend now?

In the latest book from Charles R. Swindoll, "The Church Awakening", Dr. Swindoll teaches that so many of the churches have eroded to the basic needs of meeting the people that attend there. Like the erosion that happens along a beach, it happens slowly and over time. In recent years, we have seen so many churches bend to conform to attract new members in hopes of providing a watered-down version of what Jesus had wanted to church to be. Now there are coffee bars and large entertainment brought in to appeal to the new generation of people in the world and we are conforming to what the world believes the church should be instead of what is was meant to be.

This book is a great tool for believers and for church members to take a hard look at the way their churches are conducting a business instead of a ministry. He calls us to look back to the foundations that Jesus built His ministry on and calls us back to those ways.

I received the book, The Church Awakening, from Faith Words, a division of Hachette Book Group for my honest review. I must admit my current church has eroded and thus the need for my family to begin to search for one of true values and foundations. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars and believe we should all read it and answer the questions of ourselves and our churches.

  6. I first heard Chuck Swindoll in 1983 when a lady I worked with turned me on to the Christian radio station she listened to. I have listened to Chuck and read many of his books since that time. Thanks for the chance to win. He is a personal favorite. I follow your personal blog too Kat. I keep forgetting to mention it. But I follow here because you are one great book reviewer. Anne

  9. I think this will help me become stronger for my church! I agree that the church needs to shine the light and create an awakening. We should all be reaching out to one another more than we do. The church is not just a location!
